i thought there'd be more people who love anime in this fandom since D&P talk about it a lot. anyway, i really need to watch dan's ls since apparently he gave an opinion about free vs haikyuu? haikyuu just ended and got a green light for a third season, i really want to know what he think.

anyone remember what anime D&P have watched/mention? i only know FMA, AOT, Soul Eater, SAO, Shigatsu, Chihayafuru, Haikyuu, free, magi, cowboy bebop, Blue exorcist, Eva, dont remember what else

Uuuu.. Anime. I have watch so much when I am a kid/teen. Nowadays, only DetectiveConan / CaseClose.

Others that I have watch:
Pokemon until Misty left
Digimon until Digimon Tamers. Haven't watch the anniversary movies yet
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed / Destiny
Rurouni Kenshin but not until the end
Slam Dunk but I stop somewhere
Eyeshield 21
Naruto (hahaha)
Cardcaptor Sakura
K-On!
School Ramble
Prince of Tennis (stop at some point)
Ouran High School Host Club

I naturally read manga more than watch anime because it is more easily accessible. Haha.

Do you guys have MyAnimeList accounts? I'm Dantaliam there. I haven't updated in forever though, because I haven't watched anime in forever.

Ooooh boy.

Top 5 anime in order:
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion
  • End of Evangelion
  • Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo
  • Evangelion 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone
  • Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance
Okay, but in all seriousness, I have watched way too much anime to list them. I don't even have a MAL because it would take me 3 years to organize at this point. I don't know where to start.
yonahime wrote:anyway, i really need to watch dan's ls since apparently he gave an opinion about free vs haikyuu? haikyuu just ended and got a green light for a third season, i really want to know what he think.
I haven't watched the LS either, but I don't really see where one can draw a comparison considering they're pretty different. Free is to swimming as K-On is to music, and Haikyuu is an actual sports anime.

I've always wanted to get into H x H, but my patience for long running anime isn't very good. ;_; Is it worth it?

On the same note, I'm actually surprised Dan nor Phil got into One Punch Man while it was airing. I was sure the hype train for it would draw them in at some point.

Erased was
okay. I feel like the pacing kinda killed it for me.

so I have a question, what do you guys anime pro think about Magi and now Simbad?

Dan has been gushing over these so much but idk if i trust him. I kinda want to give them a try but would rather not bother if he is just being a bit too enthusiastic about something that's just average

Tell me about it. I've taken note of all the anime they've watched and I swear they love every single one. Are they really easy to please or do they just pick really good ones/highly rated ones to watch? And even still, it's all subjective.

I had already watched FMA and Death Note long before I even knew D+P existed, so I know they're accurately describing those two when they say they're good (imo ofc), but the rest idk. I watched AoT because of them and really liked it. But I also watched SAO because of them and didn't make it past season 2 (nor did I really care for season 1 that much).

Lol I know you asked about Magi but I had to agree with you about trusting their taste in anime

YES!!! It's so so so good, it's amazing and beautiful and (almost) perfect. I watched it when I was doing nothing in my life (like, not studying or working), so I finished all 148 episodes in 6 days...

But it's a shounen, has a lot of fights and stuff. Although I think the main thing about it really is the characters (my favorite being Kurapika, obviously).

Just got back from making a MAL list. One, I hate scoring systems, I'd rather give a short summary of my feelings about a certain series then just slap a number on it. Two, 124 anime entries. No one is proud of this.

I can't give a definitive answer, as I haven't watched Magi either and I agree with blueapple_x on subjective taste. I mean, we all know SAO is garbage but D&P love it. :^)

However, I 100% remember that D&P said they looked for a list of the most popular anime and went from there.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of praise for H x H's characters, which is why I'm interested. :D Shounen really isn't my thing, though. Maybe I'll read the manga instead? ٩ʕ◕౪◕ʔو

I guess if you like reading manga it's a nice choice. There's 340 chapters as of right now iirc. I don't like manga in general that much, I prefer anime, so I've only read it from the point the anime ends on (it ends almost like if it was a real ending so no worries lol), but there's not even that much else after that, because the mangaka, Togashi, has some diseases and is constantly on hiatus. It's coming back this year though, we'll see for how long :D
But from what I've heard, there's not that many differences between the manga and the anime...If you really like reading though, go for it! It's a great story!

While I haven't watched much of Magi, but I kept up to date with the manga for about a year, so I have a fair idea of what it's about. Magi starts off well, and has a strong (physically and emotionally, from what I remember) female character in Morgiana, who is part of a trio involving herself, Alibaba and Aladdin (who is the main character, a young boy who is also a genie/djinn).

Judging by the descriptions on Wikipedia, the anime so far has only covered the good, early parts of the plot. Unfortunately, after a while the manga starts to go into the backstory arc as to why Aladdin was born and why he's so powerful, and that arc, to me, was SO LONG AND BORING. Seriously, what was covered there could've been a manga in itself. However, the early part of the story is very entertaining and is good for if you want a bit of a laugh with a number of touching moments, and some memorable characters.

So, I suggest try it out; the anime's along the same style of Fairy Tail from what I remember. If you're into historical fantasy/adventure type stuff with a large cast, I'd also recommend Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn), and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood if you haven't seen it yet (which is unlikely, but hey).

I like shoujo a lot and some other weird series too (though lately I have just been reading shoujo mangas).

Fave animes mainstream:

-Wolf's Rain
-Full Metal Alchemist
-Death Note
-Rurouni Kenshin
-CardCaptor Sakura
-Sailor Moon
-.hack//SIGN
-Blood+

Not that famous (at least not in my country):

-Earth Girl Arjuna
-KareKano
-Get Backers
-Kaleido Star
-The Twelve Kingdoms
-Last Exile

I haven't really watched anime in the past couple years tho, slightly interested in watching Magi, I tried to watch Free as per D&P rec but it just wasn't my thing. Currently just reading Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji and Love Rerun, nothing else has really caught my attention.

I'm looking forward to some new chapters of Vampire Knight as it has been recently announced by the author after its lousy ending, I was so obsessed with it a few years ago, I might stop stanning these guys if it ruins my life again. Sometimes I check the forums I joined back when it was on its best chapters and I can't really believe how much I typed/analized about the whole thing xD

My "Anime Watched" list reads like this: Attack on Titan eps 1-9 (Thank you Netflix - I've hit freefall today) Really enjoying it thus far.

Two questions:
1, Only one season? Really?! Or is UK Netflix being as crap as ever? (Seriously... Archer S7. Hurry t'fuck up)
2, Recommendations for what to watch next?

1. Saikano
2. Ergo Proxy
3. Elfen Lied (because very many sad story, kill puppy - make me cry)
Somewhere in the top 10 but I can't put into top 3 because of the rotoscoped animation style : Aku no Hana.

I watched so much anime before 2011, But i stopped basically mid 2012 and briefly watched a few in the past few years. Dunno what happened, did I get a life? Not likely, probably has to do with my anime-fan exes or something.

I should start watching again, I remember being very happy while watching anime.

my recommendations, though mostly shoujo (i love shounen too though, it's just people never recommend enough shoujo imo):
1. Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn): princess and her bodyguard/childhood friend recruiting people on their journey. note: there are dragons. unfortunately it's only one season and the anime ended when the story was just picking up. so it's more like a prequel. A+ female main character development. (and recommend it too)
2. Akagami no shirayukihime: a herbalist and a prince fell in love. You want a healthy development of a romance in anime? This is for you. It's fluffy and make me feel good. A+ female main character as well.
3. Hibike! Euphonium: a high school wind ensemble club wanting to win a competition. There're club drama and a heavy dose of subtext between the main two female characters (though they never went with it :( but still good). if you're in a band, or would like to know what it feels like, this is for you. Also, the music is amazing.

i will come back later for more.

Sorry to double post because i can't edit my previous post anymore :(

4. (how could i forget this) Hikaru no Go:
it's an old anime, but it's really good. It's about a boy who encounter a ghost who were previously a master at Go like hundreds years ago, but got killed and felt unfulfilled. The boy got inspired and start to really get into it after he met another boy who is the same age as him but is already a pro. Thus, the rivalry is born. (there's some subtext there but well) Anyway, it's a pretty educative and informative anime about Go and the world of Professional Go too. It's really big when it was airing like there's amateur competition for children that get hold or something and after each episode there's a short teaching video for the beginner. It's like courting you to like Go too.

5. Hyouka:
A detective/mystery anime that doesn't have dead bodies. I don't know why people don't like it, i think it's a pretty good ode to the mystery genre. Though it's more slice of life x mystery.

Considering that Dan's video has now officially piqued interest in Evangelion, I figured I could make a post that could assist first time watchers. This will be the most self-indulgent post on this site.

Watch Order:
There is a very popular image floating around that suggests you skip the last two episodes of the original show and head straight to the movie. Do not do this. Completely banish that thought from your head. It will only help to confuse you more then necessary.

Just watch the original series in order, then End of Evangelion.

The Rebuild movies (aka: Eva 1.0, 2.0, 3.0) are not necessary watching. I would only recommend you watch them if you're deep in the abyss of Evangelion and are desperate for more. Do not watch these movies as a replacement of the original. The Rebuilds cut so much of the original plot and then heads on its own story, they're very different to the tone of the original series.

You may also notice that there is a manga version of Evangelion. Do not read this before you watch the anime. The anime came first, the manga is an adaptation by the character designer. Many events in the story are different in the manga.

Content warnings:
suicide, child abuse (mental), rape (mental), disassociation There may be more so if anyone remembers something else pls add

Post-Evangelion Q&A:
What the fuck just happened?
I know. Check out this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho07Ag6lV9g ), Goat Jesus' channel, Eva Geeks (take with a massive bucket of salt for character relations), and 17th-angel (again, bucket of salt). Generally avoid 4chan, the fandom there is awful.

What was [scene] supposed to mean?
Evangelion is not meant to have definitive answers. A lot of things are interpreted freely and you will encounter a lot of this looking for answers (Such as the nature of the Shinji/Kaworu and Shinji/Asuka relationships).

I want more pls
Other than the Rebuilds and the manga, there isn't much else. There are more spinoff manga and games out there, but they're not really worth your time unless you like dating sims.
