just wanted to weigh in here as an active youtuber-type person. when i joined the partner program i had to do this whole disclaimer/contract-ish thing, and basically one of the main points on there was you can't watch your own videos over and over to collect ad revenue because that's essentially cheating the system/stealing and your account will have a big strike on it and you won't be able to make ad revenue from your content. along with that, when replying to comments by clicking on the actual video, the view count goes up even though i pause it after two seconds because i don't want to listen to my own voice lol. on videos where i get quite a few comments, causing me to click on the video often to reply to them, the view counts always goes up. i figured it probably wouldn't since i'm the creator and i pause it so quickly, but that's not the case. (and this example applies to a couple videos i released last week, so i'm not pulling out data from months ago).hello9217 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2017 6:54 pmIf you are logged on to your account after the third re-watch it will stop counting your views. Obviously if you aren’t logged on it won’t know that your watching it on repeat but I’ll link an article that I read that discusses YouTube and how it tracks viewsfancybum wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2017 6:41 pmWait, is this actual fact? That doesn't seem like it could be correct; views are all about ads, and if I watch a video 5 times (and sit through ads 5 times), it has to count as 5 views. Anything else makes no sense. Are there any reputable links to info on this?hello9217 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2017 6:22 pmSorry for the double post but I think this is just gaming content in general on YouTube. Like in 2014 the algorithm favored gamers so they got a ridiculous amount but now it seems to favor vloggers. Like if you look at Jacksepticeye, who has 14 million more subscribers than deppy, they are literally getting the same number of views. Plus since a re-watch is not counted as view anymore it just appears to be less.vincentian wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2017 6:08 pm Also, a big part of this might just be the fact that for whatever reasons their videos aren't getting as many views over 24 hours as they used to. They naturally have less motivation to sweat over the quality of content. I'm not defending doop and poop here, just trying to rationalise what I see. But I hope gamingmas will pick up, it's only the beginning.

i guess my point is that youtube counts pretty much all the views (especially after that update from awhile back where they finally fixed the view counter..), but like dizzy said in another post, if you replay a video right after you watch it, it doesn't get counted (i tested it out-not with one of my own videos-and it seemed to be that case).
regarding dnp's views, i just think the algorithm is just so messed up right now, and isn't favouring content that doesn't have a clickbait-y title/thumbnail, and it's not like they're doing anything popular or trending (or particularity engaging..). but i could be wrong here, idk that's just how i'm seeing it right now.
edit: whoops top of the page again :/ sorry
