There are no words to describe how much I love Phil and these picutres, he looks so very happy.

And it's very endearing that he spent his birthday with his parents and Dan. How could it get cuter than that? <3 <3 <3 <3

I am an adult woman with a career and lots of commitments and I just spent like half an hour catching up on the entire #phaberge saga. Incredible. This single handedly justified all time i've invested into DnP.

Two theories:

1. Faberge marketing intern is a massive phan

Or

2. They are figuring, based on the law of probabilities, that there might just be a few 1%er teens in the phandom who will upon a spon go and bug their parents for a £35,000-40,000 back egg

Incredible.

I mean 7 million people follow Phil on twitter so I'm sure out of 7 million there is at least 1 who could afford something from Faberge.

Yeah, that's what i was getting at, and in this luxury range a few sales really count.

But how are they not concerned with tarnishing the brand's image?? Like, I am not sure people who pay twice my yearly rent for a jewelry item would appreciate said item being referred to as "back egg." And most of the faberge's tag on Twitter is currently people photoshopping DnP meme faces into Faberge jewelry (i did see a few earnest attempts at least). So yeah, I am going with a rogue intern for now.

The pictures of Phil for his birthday are really nice!
A little surprised they didn't see Hamilton with M&C if they were with Phil's parents, honestly.

I'm having a little second-hand embarrassment for whoever Dan paid to write "show me that birthday philussy" on a cake. Nice birthday tweet though.

The phaberge saga still doesn't fail to amaze me. I guess they really, really want those few sales from the very rich teens. It's strange to me that they really want to have some sort of business deal with someone who has a fanbase of very young people, generally without their own income, and who more or less mocked their product

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a mixture of the two lol. we've seen how much some ppl are willing to spend on liveshow messages. They've also prob. seen the ££££££ Dan drops on his wardrobe, maybe they're hoping Dan will buy something to support Phil's new relationship

I can't figure out if Martyn and Cornelia aka the dream-team went to Hamilton with the birthday boi. There's no reason for it to matter, I'm just irrationally curious. Martyn doesn't come across as a musical-theater lover, but then again this is Hamilton it's on a whole other plane of existence.

Under a spoiler just because I'm rambling off topic of the birthday celebration
I wonder how close Deppy are with each other's respective families in-laws. Dan seems comfortable with Phil's mum, and she seemed fond of Dan in Phil's mother-son bonding video. They must be pretty close if Dan chose to buy/make that beautiful stupid cake. They've been together for centuries so it would make sense, seeing how Phil seems to care deeply about family. not that it really matters, I'm just way too nosy and way too jealous of Phil's positive family relationship (not perfect relationship, but seemingly net-positive). Dan better be making the most of it or I will.

Has phil ever talked about Dan's family? aside from dreaming about Dan's mum that one time? More importantly, are Phil and Dan's grandmother besties? bc I stan Dan's grandmother hardcore (almost as much as Cornelia).

(I'm going to start re-listening to their old radio-shows during my workouts now, we were given so many gems.)
Do we know if Phil's going to go hard-core again with his birth-week like last year, or was last year over-the-top because he was turning 30?

Also, am I the only one who finds it endearing that Dan's the one who organized the cake?

I wonder if it's store bought or homemade? It's aestetically pleasing enough to be store bought, but the writing on top looks very much like Dan wrote it. I can't decide because I can't compare it to the baking video stuff (I firmly believe they intentionally fail for the sake of 'entertainment') and I feel bad comparing it to the Christmas abomination cake because idk how much that was influenced by his co-bakers.

Maybe it's about brand visibility. I mean, three weeks ago I had no idea what Faberge was, now I know that they sell backeggs (among other things...). And they say today's teenagers are tomorrows paying customers.

E: Imagine if Faberge suddenly becomes really fashionable, all the celebrities start wearing backeggs and their star model boy is Phil Lester. I can't stop laughing.

dan bought the cake - the writing is far too good, considering icing is harder than regular handwriting. but also, it looks like it's from the same bakery where they got a bday cake for bryony one year, and it looks p similar to one of dan's bday cakes (dunno which year).

:birthday: Happy Birthday Phil! <3 :hbd:

That birthday tweet sure was... something. So was Phil's reply adding another layer to the joke. I need the details on that situation asap! I gotta hear about the explanation, the faces upon realization and the inevitable awkward silence.

Also long live Fabergé's social media person  Pornhub who?

Either way, wow. So much has changed over the past few years. Imagining Phil's parents reacting to that cake and Phil struggling to explain it as Dan laughs at him made my day better. Write that fic, anyone? :D

Happy Birthday, Phil. You're an amazing guy in every sense of the word and I owe you a large portion of my day-to-day sanity.
If you're on twitter you read the tweet like: "It's just a meme. It's an inside joke between dan and phil. Stop sexualizing everything."
And if you're on tumblr you read it like: "Sex. He means sex."
I just thought it was really funny and Phil's response was the icing on the cake ;)
Also someone did already write a fic about it: http://danfanciesphil.tumblr.com/post/1 ... neshot-for
Ehh I feel like both of those are pretty subjective to who you specifically follow; on twitter I've seen plenty of people talking about how he means sex, and on tumblr I've seen (and gotten anons) from people trying to say that it's just a meme and "don't read into it" - so yeah no matter the social media if you tend to follow a lot more skeptical people you're probably seeing it being dismissed, if you follow a lot of people who are more into the relationship and just wanting to enjoy shit you're probably seeing people talk about it meaning sex.

(And my opinion: it's a meme, it's funny. but it's definitely a meme referencing sex. best of both worlds.)
So basically

I wonder if the person in the cake shop just thought ugh disgusting male "bro" humour when they were asked to put that on a cake.
Because in all honesty it's probably what I'd think if someone wanted me to incorporate their friends name into the phrase show me your pussy on their birthday cake.
Also I bet that case shop lets you make orders online.

Also add me to the people who are enjoying but are perplexed that a brand like Fabergé are taking such an interest in Phil.
I'd have thought him a little to lowbrow to interest a brand like that. Even if he has like 7 million followers and there is a chance some of them could afford their products.

I also hope they do liveshows soon while Hamilton is still fresh as I'd actually like to hear their opinions on it.

And Happy Birthday Phil. Sorry I called you lowbrow on your birthday.

I'm sorry for double posting  I'm procrastinating like usual and your comment on brand image got me curious, so I went on a research spiral a la Faberge's business model. I'll put all that under a spoiler because it's off-topic as all halibut.
To be brief, Faberge has been operating at a significant loss lately (I may or may not have spent too long snooping around their filing history :spy: The company has recently gone through restructuring, like the investment fund Pallinghurst takeover of Gemfields (owner of faberge) which was controversial, especially because some Gemfield shareholders were already annoyed in the first place (it could be argued that faberge a bad investment, and tbh I'd agree). Faberge needs to start making money and to do so they need to get back in the public eye via Millenials.

brand-wise, Faberge isn't seen so much as a jewelry store but rather as a historical idea--richy rich people collect Faberge eggs, but it's not currently the leading luxury jeweler by a long-shot. Going back as far as Feb. 2017 Faberge is working on expanding their reach and marketing more as a jewelry brand for all generations (*cough*as long as your rich af*cough*). They have (had?) Mila Kunis wearing Faberge jewelry as the first brand ambassador, most likely to give off a more "youthful" feel.

A big move by the company is it's decision to try and shoulder into India's luxury market, a goal shared by every high-end luxury brand. That means their target audience is the surprisingly large number of young-ish people in urban cities with high disposable incomes.

[size = 85] off-off-OFF-topic, but damn jewelry companies are weirdly interesting, and Gemfield in particular because like, talk about dubious morals... although I guess all companies affiliated with jewel-mining-things are pretty sans morals, aren't they? If anyone is interested hmu and I can send you links to some of the more interesting articles (I'm absolutely pathologically terrified of one-on-one interaction online and I've accidentally burned some bridges in the phandom by freaking myself out and not replying like a rude person until enough time passes that I'm too embarrassed to contact again, but I swear I'll reply this time, I'd love to bring some good-progress news to my psychiatrist. I'm oversharing, I'm sorry.
but as far as PHIL is concerned, whoever is running their social media has probably been instructed to give off a more "youthful" vibe while still maintaining their high-end luxury brand image, and whoever is twitter-ing no doubt thought hard about engaging before doing so.

I spent less than a few hours researching the company and I only took like, 3 (lol tbh 2.5) marketing classes in undergrad so I'm definitely not an expert or anything, but if I was the social media person for Faberge I would think interacting with our resident fashion disaster is a good move because he's everything they'd want: (1.) it's an easy interaction (2.) he's a #social media influencer with 7 million followers (great for any brand) (3.) he is one of the most uncontroversial people in existence and will most likely stay that way, unlike the volatile reputations of musicians and film actors atm (4.) he has an international audience, which is something Faberge especially wants (5.) has a predominantly female audience, which they also want (6.) and most importantly, he has a very solid relationship with the coveted millennials, aka the people all brands love to exploit and all editorial media loves to hate.

But anyway, Philly-poo's birthday is coming to a close and I'm glad he had fun (at least it looks like he did). He better have a liveshow because I need deets!

edit: Catallena The 'why not both' meme is legit where my mind went during this conversation, thank you for bringing in my 3rd favorite meme/reaction-pic-thing. :love1:

okay, good  I would have been way too jealous if he made it himself seeing how he rarely bakes... I stress bake A LOT (ironically, since I don't eat most baked goods) and everything bar the writing is far better than anything I've accomplished

Love Phil’s pics from today. That spreading his arms and turning his face up to the sky while beaming is a long time favorite pose. Looks like they had a great time.

Love the likes. Obviously too much birthday phan art to even begin sharing, but I will include just this one, since it’s so on topic. :phaberge:

I'm kind of worried that with all the birthday stuff Thursday might be a perfect time to post a new video, since theoretically Phil's parents are still in London, and the last one was Friday. I just really want a Phil liveshow or an explanation of why there hasn't been one yet.

On the liveshow front, I’ve been wondering if they’ve generally decided to share less of everything with us, though naughty icing seems to negate that. It could just be the winter break, Phil was ill, tour prep and now his birthday keeping them busier, but I’ve had that feeling. I hope Phil does one or says something soon (Dan told us in his that he’d be sporadic, so Phil might actually have to do one in order to tell us  )

I’m glad to hear he’s been showing some love for all the art. That giant egg one is adorable, I always love a chibi and flying through the air like that is particularly cute.

Iv been thinking about this recently and the way they interact with us. Now liveshows for dan will be random and phil acting as if liveshows have just been forgotten. If they have decided to at least do one a month. That’s really not a lot. With them not having a day and time they upload, what will this mean for the way they interact with us. A lot of youtubers use their Instagram or twitter more. Even use snapchat or IG stories so their fan base can get a idea of what they are doing. We do get very little content compared to others and Im not saying I want them to do the same but with liveshows we got to know a little bit more about them in just a hour a week. I have noticed dan hasn’t been replying to his past few tweets. Normally he takes the time to reply to a few but only with the earrings one. I think what I’m most surprised about is I have not heard one thing about the Grammys and what dan thinks about who won. Dan loves music and I know a lot of the people he said he’d love to win didnt and a lot of people had the same opinion. Is he saving it for liveshow content or.....just not gonna say anything? I know all of this is probably just being busy and not having the time and I completely understand. Its just with youtubers your relationship and interaction with your fan base is a big priority and it just got me questioning are they trying to fade some things out.

Last note I really REALLY hope they take full advantage of using their Instagram when in different countries. I’m sorry but I’m not waiting for another book to come out so I can see you guys. Dan you complain you can’t take photos because you don’t go outside. YOUR GONNA BE OUTSIDE FOR HALF A YEAR! GIVE ME CONTENT!!!!

Dan and Phil barely share anything with their audience as it is though? Cutting out live shows is just cutting more tiny antidotes that could be in future videos/tweets and just behind the scenes stuff. I like live shows too but it’s not anything really extremely cutting edge for at least Phil’s live shows? I get this feeling Phil’s gonna come back with live shows probably within the next week or so and claim that he simply just “completely forgot about them from being so caught up with the tour” but I mean it’s not like people haven’t been asking about your live shows for the past month or anything but ... ok phil if that’s how you’re gonna play.
Yikes that came off more bitter than I wanted it to be... sorry! I’m just really salty with phil being so quite about live shows.
While I’m on the topic of live shows though, I was on twitter a few days ago and somebody said that there is no longer a sponsor button on the gaming channel for their live streams and that their sponsorship was canceled. I just checked it and yeah, it looks like dan and phil disabled sponsorships on the gaming channel??? Which basically means that anyone that did sponsor them had it canceled without them telling us? :sideeye: what the hell is going on?

OKAY NOW IM LISTENING. This just adds to me thinking about them ending their partnership or whatever they have with younow. Does anyone know about how younow works? Do you need to do a set amount of shows a year? Dan saying he will just randomly do a live whenever he feels like it, does that effect things? Is that even allowed? It’s obviously not like a IG live or anything because you make money off them.

Younow doesn’t do gaming channel sponsorships, that’s all on YouTube Gaming. This doesn’t equate to their younow stuff, this is completely separate from that. But, is it possible that younow partnerships are just like the youtube partner program, once you meet a certain about of views (across all live shows)/followers, you get to get paid for them? There’s no set time frames for it? I know youtubers like Connor Franta and I’m pretty sure Tyler Oakley (at least back in the day) and Cat did/does younows sporadically and (assuming) got paid for what people paid them.

Wow, I am/was a sponsor, and it’s definitely gone. Looks like they are cutting way back on live content... perhaps tour related? Perhaps not.

Ironically, a live show would explain this more clearly. It would have been nice to have the sponsorship thing clarified — even by sending them separately a message on YouTube explaining.

Everyone has pretty much said what there is to be said so i'll leave it at: I'm so glad he had a good birthday, he really deserves it -- and with what looks like a delicious (red velvet???) cake courtesy of meme king Dan. I need to hear more about the explanation to his parents. (ideally in a joint liveshow on thursday :please:)
