There are no words to describe how much I love Phil and these picutres, he looks so very happy.
And it's very endearing that he spent his birthday with his parents and Dan. How could it get cuter than that?
I mean 7 million people follow Phil on twitter so I'm sure out of 7 million there is at least 1 who could afford something from Faberge.gnostic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 10:03 pm I am an adult woman with a career and lots of commitments and I just spent like half an hour catching up on the entire #phaberge saga. Incredible. This single handedly justified all time i've invested into DnP.
Two theories:
1. Faberge marketing intern is a massive phan
Or
2. They are figuring, based on the law of probabilities, that there might just be a few 1%er teens in the phandom who will upon a spon go and bug their parents for a £35,000-40,000 back egg
Incredible.
Yeah, that's what i was getting at, and in this luxury range a few sales really count.hello9217 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 10:55 pmI mean 7 million people follow Phil on twitter so I'm sure out of 7 million there is at least 1 who could afford something from Faberge.gnostic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 10:03 pm I am an adult woman with a career and lots of commitments and I just spent like half an hour catching up on the entire #phaberge saga. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a mixture of the two lol. we've seen how much some ppl are willing to spend on liveshow messages. They've also prob. seen the ££££££ Dan drops on his wardrobe, maybe they're hoping Dan will buy something to support Phil's new relationshipgnostic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 10:03 pm I am an adult woman with a career and lots of commitments and I just spent like half an hour catching up on the entire #phaberge saga. I can't figure out if Martyn and Cornelia aka the dream-team went to Hamilton with the birthday boi. There's no reason for it to matter, I'm just irrationally curious. Martyn doesn't come across as a musical-theater lover, but then again this is Hamilton it's on a whole other plane of existence.
(Martyn & Cornelia are off travelling, last they updated they're in Malaysia)dontpanic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:24 pm I can't figure out if Martyn and Cornelia aka the dream-team went to Hamilton with the birthday boi. Maybe it's about brand visibility. I mean, three weeks ago I had no idea what Faberge was, now I know that they sell backeggs (among other things...). And they say today's teenagers are tomorrows paying customers.alch wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:12 pm The phaberge saga still doesn't fail to amaze me. I guess they really, really want those few sales from the very rich teens. It's strange to me that they really want to have some sort of business deal with someone who has a fanbase of very young people, generally without their own income, and who more or less mocked their product
dan bought the cake - the writing is far too good, considering icing is harder than regular handwriting. but also, it looks like it's from the same bakery where they got a bday cake for bryony one year, and it looks p similar to one of dan's bday cakes (dunno which year).dontpanic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:24 pm I wonder if it's store bought or homemade? It's aestetically pleasing enough to be store bought, but the writing on top looks very much like Dan wrote it. I can't decide because I can't compare it to the baking video stuff (I firmly believe they intentionally fail for the sake of 'entertainment') and I feel bad comparing it to the Christmas abomination cake because idk how much that was influenced by his co-bakers.
So basicallyalittledizzy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 9:28 pmEhh I feel like both of those are pretty subjective to who you specifically follow; on twitter I've seen plenty of people talking about how he means sex, and on tumblr I've seen (and gotten anons) from people trying to say that it's just a meme and "don't read into it" - so yeah no matter the social media if you tend to follow a lot more skeptical people you're probably seeing it being dismissed, if you follow a lot of people who are more into the relationship and just wanting to enjoy shit you're probably seeing people talk about it meaning sex.hello9217 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 9:25 pmIf you're on twitter you read the tweet like: "It's just a meme. It's an inside joke between dan and phil. Stop sexualizing everything."Ablissa wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 9:15 pm I don't really get that meme. Or any meme (I'm a bit out of the loop/not the biggest fan of memes in general, usually). Does it REALLY mean what I think it means? Can it be read any other way??
Either way, wow. So much has changed over the past few years. Imagining Phil's parents reacting to that cake and Phil struggling to explain it as Dan laughs at him made my day better. Write that fic, anyone?
Happy Birthday, Phil. You're an amazing guy in every sense of the word and I owe you a large portion of my day-to-day sanity.
And if you're on tumblr you read it like: "Sex. He means sex."
I just thought it was really funny and Phil's response was the icing on the cake
Also someone did already write a fic about it: http://danfanciesphil.tumblr.com/post/1 ... neshot-for
(And my opinion: it's a meme, it's funny. but it's definitely a meme referencing sex. best of both worlds.)
I'm sorry for double posting I'm procrastinating like usual and your comment on brand image got me curious, so I went on a research spiral a la Faberge's business model. I'll put all that under a spoiler because it's off-topic as all halibut.gnostic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:02 pmYeah, that's what i was getting at, and in this luxury range a few sales really count.hello9217 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 10:55 pmI mean 7 million people follow Phil on twitter so I'm sure out of 7 million there is at least 1 who could afford something from Faberge.gnostic wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 10:03 pm I am an adult woman with a career and lots of commitments and I just spent like half an hour catching up on the entire #phaberge saga. But how are they not concerned with tarnishing the brand's image?? Like, I am not sure people who pay twice my yearly rent for a jewelry item would appreciate said item being referred to as "back egg." And most of the faberge's tag on Twitter is currently people photoshopping DnP meme faces into Faberge jewelry (i did see a few earnest attempts at least). So yeah, I am going with a rogue intern for now.
Iv been thinking about this recently and the way they interact with us. Now liveshows for dan will be random and phil acting as if liveshows have just been forgotten. If they have decided to at least do one a month. That’s really not a lot. With them not having a day and time they upload, what will this mean for the way they interact with us. A lot of youtubers use their Instagram or twitter more. Even use snapchat or IG stories so their fan base can get a idea of what they are doing. We do get very little content compared to others and Im not saying I want them to do the same but with liveshows we got to know a little bit more about them in just a hour a week. I have noticed dan hasn’t been replying to his past few tweets. Normally he takes the time to reply to a few but only with the earrings one. I think what I’m most surprised about is I have not heard one thing about the Grammys and what dan thinks about who won. Dan loves music and I know a lot of the people he said he’d love to win didnt and a lot of people had the same opinion. Is he saving it for liveshow content or.....just not gonna say anything? I know all of this is probably just being busy and not having the time and I completely understand. Its just with youtubers your relationship and interaction with your fan base is a big priority and it just got me questioning are they trying to fade some things out.flarequake wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 1:58 am On the liveshow front, I’ve been wondering if they’ve generally decided to share less of everything with us, though naughty icing seems to negate that. It could just be the winter break, Phil was ill, tour prep and now his birthday keeping them busier, but I’ve had that feeling. I hope Phil does one or says something soon (Dan told us in his that he’d be sporadic, so Phil might actually have to do one in order to tell us )
Dan and Phil barely share anything with their audience as it is though? Cutting out live shows is just cutting more tiny antidotes that could be in future videos/tweets and just behind the scenes stuff. I like live shows too but it’s not anything really extremely cutting edge for at least Phil’s live shows? I get this feeling Phil’s gonna come back with live shows probably within the next week or so and claim that he simply just “completely forgot about them from being so caught up with the tour” but I mean it’s not like people haven’t been asking about your live shows for the past month or anything but ... ok phil if that’s how you’re gonna play.flarequake wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 1:58 am On the liveshow front, I’ve been wondering if they’ve generally decided to share less of everything with us, though naughty icing seems to negate that. I’m glad to hear he’s been showing some love for all the art. That giant egg one is adorable, I always love a chibi and flying through the air like that is particularly cute.
OKAY NOW IM LISTENING. This just adds to me thinking about them ending their partnership or whatever they have with younow. Does anyone know about how younow works? Do you need to do a set amount of shows a year? Dan saying he will just randomly do a live whenever he feels like it, does that effect things? Is that even allowed? It’s obviously not like a IG live or anything because you make money off them.confusedpanda wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 4:02 am While I’m on the topic of live shows though, I was on twitter a few days ago and somebody said that there is no longer a sponsor button on the gaming channel for their live streams and that their sponsorship was canceled. I just checked it and yeah, it looks like dan and phil disabled sponsorships on the gaming channel??? Which basically means that anyone that did sponsor them had it canceled without them telling us? what the hell is going on?
Younow doesn’t do gaming channel sponsorships, that’s all on YouTube Gaming. This doesn’t equate to their younow stuff, this is completely separate from that. But, is it possible that younow partnerships are just like the youtube partner program, once you meet a certain about of views (across all live shows)/followers, you get to get paid for them? There’s no set time frames for it? I know youtubers like Connor Franta and I’m pretty sure Tyler Oakley (at least back in the day) and Cat did/does younows sporadically and (assuming) got paid for what people paid them.Secretstanner wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 4:35 amOKAY NOW IM LISTENING. Wow, I am/was a sponsor, and it’s definitely gone. Looks like they are cutting way back on live content... perhaps tour related? Perhaps not.confusedpanda wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 4:02 am
