I really liked the video, I thought Dan's reactions were very funny actually, I laughed a few times. I don't think I've ever seen him act like this before? Or maybe I forgot.

Phil's neck tickle was funny, but it was also pretty evil. I feel sorry for Dan, he actually does look a bit shitty when he takes the vr thing off. I'm trying to imagine how I would respond if there were slugs instead of spiders (my biggest fear)... I think Dan is very brave for putting up with this lol. I am satisfied with this video, but I hope the time is right very soon so we can enjoy some dinof. :love2:

I'm not bothered by spiders but I do want to know if there is any vomit in the video? Or if that was like "oh no if you're scared of spiders you might be sick!"
Could anyone clarify before I watch? (I don't really want video spoilers so I haven't read any recent IDB posts yet, sorry if I'm being repetitive).
theres no actual vomiting in the video but dan does a lot of the retching noises, i heard its a lot helpful watching it w/o headphones.
Hm, we'll see if I can make it through the video, definitely taking off my headphones then. Thanks!
i dont have the phobia myself so i dont know how it is, but if it helps to turn down the volume or turn on the closed captions (although since its just uploaded, its just auto-generated one). take breathers in between if its too much

Not sure if I'm too late and you've already started watching, but I'm a fellow emetophobe and the retching noises didn't bother me in the least since they were very obviously fake. So just wanted to put that perspective out there for you. But yeah, everyone's reaction is different, so just pace yourself and see how you feel

also - I didn't notice that emetophobia warning the first time around, and that's something I usually would notice. Was that added after the video was orginally uploaded? Anyone know?

I watched it and it wasn't too bad. We definitely got the watered-down experience with Phil chattering and the in-game noises being super quiet. I actually laughed quite a bit, Phil was really being a shit. I don't remember Dan having a really big spider fear? His gagging sounded genuine, but I just kept my finger on the volume button.
The least immersive aspect (and probably why I wasn't scared) was how shit the graphics were, I laughed more at that than anything else. Though partnered with the actual VR headset... thats scarier.

im afraid of spiders but these were not that scary for me, they made me think of aragog in harry potter! but what made me feel bad was dan’s reactions, i’m an emotions sponge so.. but i loved seeing him be this genuine and challenged (as someone already said it)
it was a good video, i’ll watch it again tonight without headphones, if i’m feeling better but i’m still shaking tbh and i lowkey want to cry

yep - i still have the screen open from when it first popped up, so looks like it was added after -

it'll be interesting to see what kinda views this video gets.
will the topic scare a lot of people off? ...or bring in more people to watch dan suffer?

I'm so sad, like someone said, this might be the only video of them that I won't watch because my arachnophobia is really bad. I'll probably just click on it and leave my room running just to give them the view and keep my eyes open if someone uploads a version of this with the game screen covered and showing only them, if this doesn't happen maybe I'll only listen to it

As one of the rare people that loves spiders - I want a tarantula and I'm still sad I accidentally drowned a spider a MONTH ago - this video was fucking hilarious omg. There was one part though where he screamed and I felt so bad for him (and bad for finding it hysterical). It was funny though. Phil is a genius.

I'm trying to imagine one of my three worst fears (Nuclear war - specifically surviving a nuclear bomb, needles, and underwater hazards - specifically in the sea oh my god - even typing these is making me want to cry and be sick) being deliberately triggered like this and its making me empathise with him a lot. Like I cannot deal with any of those. It'd be the equivalent of someone making me play The Bunker in VR, I think I'd actually be inconsolable. I watched Threads about a year ago and not only did it keep me up a week consumed by existential dread, I was actually crying in fear and still get intrusive thoughts about it. So yeah, you go Dan for providing us with such hilarious content at your expense.

And I couldn't stop staring at his bare feet at the very end.... I dont know why. I dont have a thing for feet, they were just there.

as someone with a really bad phobia of all bugs, spiders included, and mild emetophobia this video honestly didn't bother me. the gagging noises didn't come off as genuine to me and the spiders are obviously fake so i was fine to watch it.

honestly, the most disturbing thing about this video for me was dan's toes.

Poor Dan, that was a lot of gagging. I’m not sure I could have handled the clicky sounds. I couldn’t tell how good his aim was, but he seeeme to hit them quite easily. I’d have probably gone in with the most massive two-handed weapon to slash my way through. The dragon was nowhere near as bad as this, Phil is such a brat sometimes, but he’s cute with it.

I'm surprised at hearing people say the gagging didn't sound genuine. I don't think he was genuinely in danger of being sick, but it did seem like a genuine reaction of disgust to me. We get a lot of Dan being over the top for effect, this just seemed... ok I'm gonna overuse the word, but it seemed genuine.

I think it just didn’t sound like actual omg-he’s
-about-to-hurl retching! Genuine or not, it sounded like the “blergh!” sound one makes when they are fake puking, not when they are actually about to lose their lunch. (My friend threw up in front of me three times last weekend, I feel recently reacquainted and also desensitized to actual gagging sounds lol)

Edited to add, just because it didn’t sound real doesn’t mean it wasn’t! He certainly appeared pale by the end it. Maybe his actually retching noise is “blergh” haha

yeah, i agree. i feel like it was a genuine reaction to being exposed to his fear, but i didnt actually think he was going to hurl everything from his stomach out through his face orifice right then and there. theres also some people who are just uncomfortable with anything to do with vomiting in general so i can see the uncomfortable-ness there.

idk, i work in childcare so things like bugs and anything disgusting bodily functions related, im pretty immune. (not to say theres teachers out there who arent, i personally work with people who cant handle spiders or bugs but just act calm in front of the kids to not freak them out) his reactions definitely hit all my checklist for someone that looks "sick and/or uncomfortable" tho

Taken from the perspective of someone who is terrified of people being sick and is overly aware of the possibility of being sick and watches out for it (like, turning off tv shows or movies when someone might be sick, or avoiding drunk people who look like they're gonna be sick, etc etc), it's not that I didn't think his reaction was genuine. I think he was genuinely squicked out by the spiders and that the gagging was a genuine reaction. When I said that the gagging didn't seem genuine, I meant that at no time did I think he was actually gagging, like in the sense that he was about to throw up. Because of my phobia, I basically have a sixth sense of when people are going to throw up (seriously lol I'll be watching a show and know it's coming, and everyone else I'm watching with will have had no idea until it actually happens), so the reason it wasn't gross or 'genuine' to me is because it wasn't real gagging noises. Hopefully that made some sort of sense.

Dan was rec-ing Kid Cudi's new album, and the text reads: "this is great wow. i want more than 7 songs. ..'ye' (as in Kanye's new album) was kinda eh tho. don't @ me. we're not talking rn." I assume he's saying this because they both worked together on these albums, more so Cudi's than Kanye's.

@ame That is actually hilarious. I took another screenshot as embedding isn't working for me.

I think Dan probably meant to tag this as "sadism kink" as that's in keeping with all the jokes he likes to make about the audience enjoying his suffering. I also think "masochism kink" is more accurate, because I don't believe for a second Phil set this up.

Skyrim is a Dan game. Dan knows where the cave with the most spiders is. Dan knows how to put a custom marker on the world map. Dan knows the correct name of the fort that Phil would have had to put on the VR headset and locate and then place the custom marker north of. Dan enjoys getting views for his suffering. I'm not complaining, and while I thought the set up was fake I didn't think his reactions were fake.

I also noticed this from the older, Phil Vs Dragon Skyrim VR:
Dan explains that his character uses a bow and arrow "because honestly, in VR, if a giant spider comes up to you and you're using an ax, it's terrifying. I tried it for 5 minutes and I was like nope."
Phil says "I'm scared you're going to prank me and like put a spider in my hand."

This has been probably been on their video idea list since they made the first video.

@watsonian it reminds me of griffin mcelroy, who for YEARS have been joking that he has a vore kink and everyone from his family to all his fans have been joking about it with him as well but its gotten to the point where he did an entire dnd campaign for a podcast series all about this giant black blob swallowing entire universes. to which you wonder, i dont know if they actually have this kink and were just enabling him, at this point im too afraid to ask.

i feel the same way about dan and all his kink (especially the furry ones)

in all honestly tho, i couldnt care less if its a real kink or not, i just find it funny. when someone is interested in something, itll find its way to crawl into their creative outlet - heck, thats why fanfics and fanart are born in the first place. its nothing to be ashamed about. ill still probably poke fun and jokingly kinkshame him, but what he searches in pornhub at 3am is none of my business. also wow i said kink so many times im gunna have to kick myself out the door now

while I was waiting for the second tatinof hollywood show to start I ate dinner at a food court near the dolby theater and jedward walked by my table several times lol. yeah I agree bumping into someone by chance is different but following someone around is not okay.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANIEL!!!!! <3 <3 <3 :hbd: :rainbowsparkle: my fellow Gemini. I will be donating to Phandom Gives for his bday as soon as I get home.

I have to be honest as someone who does not have a problem with spiders I thought Dan might be exaggerating a bit when I first watched the video — especially since the graphics aren’t so great. Once he took off the VR headset at the end and I saw how sweaty/pale he looked I felt pretty bad for doubting his reaction. However I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it really was more of his idea than just Phil’s. #masochismkink

(btw imo I don’t think he’s just joking about having a pain/ masochism kink. totally not saying that from personal experience nope not at all)

The new video reminds me a lot of "How To Make Dan Cringe" in that, when it comes to Dan's fears/dislikes that Phil doesn't relate to, it seems like he doesn't take it that seriously? Or at least seems to be genuinely baffled with the "why is this bothering you so much?" type reactions and just keeps pushing him to get through it - which Dan does, in both cases. It's such an interesting dynamic.

I'm not sure that Phil isn't taking it seriously, though I'm sure he was probably baffled upon finding out (which seems to be evident in 'How to make Dan cringe'). I'd say he's probably more teasing than anything else. But I do think that him pushing Dan to get through it has something to do with a 'face your fears' sort of mindset, which they both seem to have when putting each other through those experiences. I agree that it's such an interesting dynamic and I think it really shows how well they know each others boundaries, and when or when not to push the other.

I definitely see the similarities in those two videos. I do think that there is another basic premise to keep in mind, though - that these are things Dan has agreed to being filmed. So I feel like while they're things that Dan fear/dislikes, they aren't on the level that he thinks he can't endure through. Which... I kinda get. But it's still interesting since we see Dan like that so rarely.
