I don't agree with the fans taking all the candid photos, I've seen a few videos of them just standing at the check in desk with the airline and number visible making it easy for anyone to know when they're arriving in Australia. I also don't agree with the fact they made a hashtag about it that was easy to follow and encouraged more and more people to go. However, I was thinking that these fans will probably never have the chance to meet them again, its not like they go frequently to that part of the world so I kinda understand why they did go to the airport but they should have considered Dan and Phils privacy with all the photos and information they gave out.
in the uk 30 people at the airport for a celebrity is nothing, I've seen photos of 1D at Heathrow and at least 200 people there waiting, it's ridiculous.
Dan & Phil Part 21: Say Howdy to InDepthBants
I agree emma, I think (even if) they went through the hardships to meet Deppy at the airport, they should've had the decency to not upload pictures until they are clear from airports, to prevent more mobbing and preventing Australia fans mob them again when they arrive. Idk, obviously they are nice about it with the selfies, smiling, accepting gifts and waving, but I am uncomfortable with them being hunted by fans with no bodyguard.missemma wrote:I don't agree with the fans taking all the candid photos, I've seen a few videos of them just standing at the check in desk with the airline and number visible making it easy for anyone to know when they're arriving in Australia. Completely agree. This is the reason why Dan and Phil usually stagger tweets about travel so people can't work out where they are and go an stalk them.missemma wrote:I don't agree with the fans taking all the candid photos, I've seen a few videos of them just standing at the check in desk with the airline and number visible making it easy for anyone to know when they're arriving in Australia. Being at an airport is stressful enough but to have 30 people waiting for you and asking for pictures is just a no from me. Where is drake? I am guessing they didn't think there would be this many people at the airport waiting.
I understand that they probably will never get to meet them but it all just seems a bit too much to go to the airport. I just hope if people have posted their flight on Twitter/instagram, that the people in Australia don't go and meet them off the flight.

While I 100% agree that just trying to travel (or get a sandwich, or check your mail) without a crowd of fans must be unbelievably stressful, I have to point out that it's not some entitled new generation of stalkers behaving like this.
Crowds of kids doing things like waiting for hours on end to meet their idols at the airport have been going on as long as idols have existed.
I mean, check out Beatles fans at the airport in 1964.

I really dislike the selfies which are clearly just people jumping infront of them and lifting their phone for a quick selfie. I saw one this morning with Phil and it's just rude. I can't even imagine wanting a picture of such an embarrassingly nothingy moment lol a few seconds standing infront of them haha. I've seen some of those type of selfies with 1D where they're not even looking into the camera and are just walking and don't even know it's being taken. What's the point? lol.
I'm all about Dan's hair though. May the curls break free!

Honestly I wouldn't go and wait at an airport even to see Dan and Phil and yeah it must be a bit embarrassing for deppy to have this kinda meetup in the middle of the airport but they will survive. I don't think it is that bad. If those girls wanna wait at the airports to try and meet them, as long as they are respectful of them, I can't really judge. It's a free world, it's public place. Dan and Phil have the right to privacy but those fans didn't go to their home or their hotel.

i now as an adult (lol kinda) completely understand why it's wrong and wouldn't do it, but i sympathize with the kids to be honest, i live in a tiny irrelevant south american country and the few times a celebrity i admired came here when i was a young teen you can bet i waited around their hotel for a chance to at least wave at them, they don't mean any harm and if whoever they are trying to meet travels with security (which is most celebrities) it can be over quickly and the kids are gonna be happy they saw the celebrity walk past them even if they didn't even look on their direction. deppy apparently weren't so lucky to have drake with them and are too nice to not stop, but i really can't make myself hate the kids for that
also for those asking where are their parents, idk if mine are weird but they didn't really give a fuck if i was waiting around for a celebrity as long as i called from time to time to make sure i was alive, i don't think the average parent even thinks how their teen daughter might be making a celebrity's life unnecessarily difficult

Yes, they'll survive, yes, it's a public space, but to me waiting at check-in IS the same as hanging out at their door/hotel/whatever. - Somewhere they knew in advance D&P were going to have to be, and no alternative. The only difference being they’re 10 times as likely to be arrested/detained, cos airport.daphenaxa wrote:Honestly I wouldn't go and wait at an airport even to see Dan and Phil and yeah it must be a bit embarrassing for deppy to have this kinda meetup in the middle of the airport but they will survive. Ugggh, it is really awkward, but I understand. It's a public place, and flight info is readily available. They are young fans who probably thought they'd never get to realistically meet their idols. Luckily, Dan and Phil had an easy out: they had a flight to catch after all, and those kiddies can't follow them past security. But they seemed as pleasant and kind as you would expect either way. I totally commend Dan and Phil. They probably made those teenagers' lives! (Must be annoying they have to carry those presents with the rest of their carry on though, lol.)

Lol I saw a video of Dan having a load of gifts thrust in his hands. I bet they had to leave those gifts in the airport as they'd already checked bags and some of it might not have gone through security in their gift bags lol. They were so cute stopping to meet people though, if a bit overwhelmed by the looks of it haha so sweet.

I guess airport/hotel/tour bus mobs is just going to be a fact of life for them. They have an audience multiple millions strong and a lot of 'extra' dedicated fans. You can only hope people don't lose themselves completely and reflect a bit before they act.
Props for them handling the situation with grace and yea I hope those poor lost souls that traveled to church the airport just to get a glimpse of them received their blessings and maybe decided to meet and greet each other when took to the skies.

As for the fans lining up at the airport, I feel the same way as a lot of you. I sympathize with them but I also sympathize with deppy. It's hard for both parties. It's hard for the fans to resist and it's hard for deppy to deal with. I think it would have been better if they had Drake with them. But it seems to have gone well, it looks like not every fan got a picture with them and instead they got one big selfie, but that's a good happy medium since Dan and Phil were probably rushing to check in and make the flight I don't think the fans were in the right but I also can't really blame them. y'know?

The fact that it was before the flight makes it worse to me. I do have compassion for fans in countries where they don't travel regularly, and after a flight there's a chance they could stop, they could accept gifts, take photos, try to make it a pleasant experience. I always thought the idea of fans greeting celebs after a flight was kind of sweet too, I've seen the pictures before where they show up with signs and generally just stand back and cheer.
But before a flight? As someone else said, they're forced to either send people away with gifts they brought or take them and trash them/leave them somewhere as soon as they're around the corner, and they don't have time for pictures. In general they don't seem to have time to make it a good experience for themselves or the fans, and going through check in/security/customs is stressful even without knowing thirty people are filming you as you walk through the airport.

I'm with the people saying that they understand both sides, I feel for the people and I feel for deppy, also, I'm really proud of them for handling the situation so graciously. At least the crowd seems to be of a manageable number, I just wasn't more worried because if there were more people than that the airport security would have intervened, I've seen it before a few times, they are trained and quick to spot when a crowd of fans starts to get big and overwelming.
But yeah, I'm mostly just happy with Deppy for handling everything so well.

Airlines and airports do have special procedures for VIP travel if requested - maybe they should be considering that? (Escorts, stashing in airline lounges / clubs, etc.) OTOH, it's possible that D&P don't mind mild attention at the airport (although the airport authorities may not like the chaos.) Anyway, in this particular case, there is only one scheduled flight to Perth (one originating airline, and two codeshare partners,) so it was pretty easy to figure out when and where to stalk.

I was thinking about this earlier. As much as the mob of fans at the airport makes me super uncomfortable, I'm sure that D&P know that as frequent, business class flyers they could easily get VIP treatment and get snuck through busy airports unnoticed like many mainstream celebs do. I guess they probably don't mind much, because if it really bothered them they could arrange for security or just power past the crowds without stopping for gifts & selfies. Also seriously, in 2016 who thinks it's a good idea to give someone a gift right before they fly, if you don't know what's inside it's such an unnecessary risk taking something on a plane..uglyamerican wrote:Airlines and airports do have special procedures for VIP travel if requested - maybe they should be considering that? Anyhow I guess they're hidden away jet-lagging in a hotel today, and might do some touristing in the few days before the show? I hope they didn't get too mobbed at Perth when they arrived.. From Insta it looks like Martyn & Cornelia are in Bali, so I guess that's an en-route holiday stop for them and they'll get to Aus in the next few days to get merch sorted. Looking forward to a new round of #busgate type action to keep us going through this next little drought, although I wonder if they might get domestic flights instead? Cause Australia is fucking huge to drive across I did a 15 hour overnight greyhound down the east coast this summer and seriously never again

I agree. I don't think an airport or hotel is as bad as fans hanging around their actual house, but I still think it's super disrespectful. I suppose that the airport is slightly better than a hotel, because they're (most likely) going to be in the hotel lobby multiple times, and obviously they're only going to be at the airport once. But, still all bad. They obviously don't want people loitering around airports waiting for them, both for the safety of themselves and the people waiting, and I just wish people would respect that. Like, is a group selfie really worth it?IckleMissMayhem wrote:Yes, they'll survive, yes, it's a public space, but to me waiting at check-in IS the same as hanging out at their door/hotel/whatever. - Somewhere they knew in advance D&P were going to have to be, and no alternative. I hope they're travelling exclusively by plane for this leg and that #busgate can finally fucking die. I don't think there will be the same level of drought as the US leg. For one thing it seems like they were really pushing the gaming channel once they got back (maybe it took a noticeable hit in their absence), like Phil even promoted it in his first video back. Maybe they mentioned it more in liveshows too? I don't know, it just felt like they were suddenly trying to get more eyes over there. So we know there's a Pokemon vid coming, they mentioned filming something new (I'm guessing slither.io but who knows), hopefully they banked another sims and undertale and Dan has an ISG waiting in the wings. Plus all the gossip about one-liners on stage and M&G photos. We'll be seeing them more than we did for all of July, so I think this month will fly by. And I'm clinging onto September being their radio return (fingers crossed). No pessimism here.
Also I totally can and will blame the airport stalkers for being awful. Treating people like zoo exhibits is gross, end of. Everybody saying it's nice how D&P handled it well. Did they really have a choice? The most entitled part of the phandom would flip out if they were rude or ignored the people who waited, I'm sure even here there would be people saying 'oh they could have just taken 5mins since they'll prob never be there again'. Ugh. Can't win so they have to grin and bear it.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

First I want to apologize for the info, I didn't know if it was right to do so, now I know it's not. It won't happen again.
Back to the thing, like someone said it was not that difficult to stalk them, as far as I know there is only one international airport in Hong Kong and flight times are available for anyone in the world (I mean it didn't take more than 2 minutes to find the info) and if I can find it (myself living at the other side of the world) then being local must have been pretty easy. Also all the flights were at the same time in all the different airlines so, like I said again, it is pretty easy to get the info.
But it felt bad somehow searching the info and stuff, I've admitted myself being a massive stalker in the "get to know me" thread, but it still felt bad.
About the thing I join some of you saying that I understand them going to the airport but I wouldn't do it myself, I've had countless opportunities of going to the airport to try and meet my favorite artist, but after a bad experience I decided not to do that anymore. I prefer hotels, once I met my fav band member, but, you know? it is exhausting and sometimes you get nothing out of it, but your heart broken.
But I'm happy for these girls, they seem pretty like with their lives made.
EDIT: SAFE AND SOUND IN PERTH
