We’ve created a new forum just for timestamps. Previously we had a single thread for timestamps, which led to a jumble of posts that were difficult to sort through. Now, videos are organised into categories, and each video will have its own thread.

Most videos uploaded since IDB’s creation have threads already, but videos uploaded before March 2016 and in the future will need new threads. To make a new thread in the correct area, please follow this format:

Post title: [Video Title] [Upload Date]

to look like this “Dan Takes Quizzes About Himself (3 Apr 2017)”

Post body: a link to the video, and your timestamps, if you have them. If you can’t embed the video, link to the video, report the post, and we’ll embed the video.

You do not have to have extensive timestamps to post in a thread. If one particular part of a video interests you, you can limit your post to that particular section. That being said, these threads are not for discussion - any discussion that happens in these threads may be moved to the main thread. If you would like to discuss something from a timestamps thread, quote part of the post that interests you, and make your comments in the main thread to start discussion there.

If you’re not sure where a thread should go, you can post it in the section you think is the most appropriate, and we’ll move it if necessary, or you can send a PM to a mod and we’ll let you know.

There is no need to post your timestamps under spoilers - not using spoilers allows users to ctrl+f to find words or phrases in a thread, which won’t work with spoilered timestamps. You can also post your timestamps in both the main thread for discussion and in its dedicated timestamp thread.

Just to note, we might make minor changes in the future to better organise the subforum, if it seems like the current format needs improvement.

You can find the new timestamps forum just below the danisnotonfire & AmazingPhil FAQ on the forum homepage, or by clicking this link.

If you have any questions or comments, here is the place to ask them.

Quoting from the main thread:
jesp wrote:Um, so, here’s the thing.

To make the new timestamps forum we needed to create it without it being visible to anyone other than mods, so the access permissions didn’t let any regular poster see it until we made it public. When we changed those permissions to allow anyone to see it, we forgot to change the permissions on the subforums within the timestamps section so that everyone could see them.

We should have double checked everything was working, and I’m very sorry for our mistake. The permissions have been set to allow everyone access now. If you go to the new section, you should see subforums for different channels at the top of the page.

For reference, here is the announcement post which has more details about the new forum, and here is a link to the new forum.

Please let me know if you have, or think you have, any further problems with any part of IDB.

Can you please explain how to quote a post in a timestamps thread and make it a post in the main thread? Sorry!

The easiest way to quote part of a post is to select the section of the post you want to use and copy it, create a new post in the main thread, select "Quote" from the buttons above the text box, then paste the text you copied between the quote tags.

If you want to copy a whole post, not just a section of a post, it's easier to click "Quote" at the top right of a post and copy everything from the text box that appears into a new post in the main thread.
