Re: A Thanks Button - Your Opinions

Apologies for the late replies, I've been away from the forum for a few days. Something I don't like is that "likes" seem to be instantly permanent. If there's a way to "unlike" to a post (that you've "liked" accidentally, for example), I haven't been able to figure it ...

Re: Dan & Phil Part 90: Fish Daddies

We're back.

The forum software was updated and, while this shouldn't cause any major issues, if you do find any errors or anything seems to not work for you please do let us know. Along with this, if you see any ads on the forum please let me know.

Sorry to everyone for the disruption!

Gonna disable the forum for a couple of hours for maintenance starting in twenty minutes. Should take around one to two hours before we're back up.

Re: Dan & Phil Part 89: So what now?

I see Dan is really taking this deep dive into aquatic fatherhood seriously. Is this a link to something in the tank? The page can't be found for me If you're seeing a link in that post, can you PM me a screenshot? I'm really sorry this has happened - I certainly don't want IDB to be a place with i...

Re: Dan & Phil Part 89: So what now?

I hope everyone enjoys the thanks button! Going to cover a few points again so that everyone is aware. The thanks button isn't available in global announcements {the posts that show at the top of every forum} and in the Dan and Phil FAQ. This setting may be adjusted in the future. If you don't see t...

Re: Dan & Phil Part 88: orbit of uranus

@plinthofmylife How are we sure those rules correlate to the bbc? I don't remember where the thread is for trying to decode them, but one of them had "send X to the BBC" under the "once a week" column. ETA: They also talked about the pitch process they went through for the BBC s...

Re: A Thanks Button - Your Opinions

Thanks to everyone for your replies in this thread. As things stand we're most likely going to start a trial of the thanks button across the forum in the next couple of days. The thanks button will not be available in some parts of the forum, including the Dan and Phil faq and global announcements {...

Re: Dan & Phil Part 88: orbit of uranus

Final call for thoughts on a thanks button. This thread is the place to read about it and share your opinion! At the moment it seems most people that have responded are in favour of trialing it site-wide, so we'll let the thread run a little longer and, if there are no further objections, proceed wi...

Re: A Thanks Button - Your Opinions

I personally don't think it should be allowed to turn anon thanks. If you agree, agree publicly. I understand anxiety but I worry about like what happened before with the weird pro TERF posts and people being like "I'm gonna thanks this TERF but on anon so no one knows I'm also a TERF." T...

Re: A Thanks Button - Your Opinions

I love it that we are being consulted on the matter. :) thanks all the mods and I’m willing to try it. Personally I’m still on the fence but I’m sure it’ll become clear whether it helps or hinders the discussion during the trial period. Oh, another thing. Is there a way to make the 5 displayed name...

Re: A Thanks Button - Your Opinions

Those are the hesitations that we've had during internal discussions, as well. That's why we want to do the trial period. If it causes a decline in posts or discussion, we aren't likely to keep it as a feature. Absolutely. The health of the board and people's desire to post is the most important th...

Re: FAQ Discussion Thread

It seems like a lot of the internal links in the Glossary are broken. The post links to a lot of helpful threads but they seem to all lead to "The requested page could not be found". Thanks for pointing this out! I think I've fixed them all but if anyone finds links that are still broken ...

Re: A Thanks Button - Your Opinions

Has there been any discussion about making it fully anonymous? There's been at least a couple of times on the forum where it's been split by some controversial topic and I've not wanted to take sides publicly, whilst still agreeing with one side. Letting it be anonymous would allow people to let a ...

Re: A Thanks Button - Your Opinions

I run a different forum and we have a "like" button and I have found myself wishing there was one on IDB because it's hard to acknowledge that you liked a post when you don't have much to add to the discussion. I'd really love one over here, it's one of the features I think is missing mos...

A Thanks Button - Your Opinions

Our previous home had a "Thanks Button" but, unfortunately, our move to IDB meant that we couldn’t offer this functionality for our new users. A little more than a year ago I tried to find a way to offer a thanks button again but the only option caused massive issues on the forum’s back en...

Over the last few months we’ve been working on an update to our forum rules and we’re very happy to finally be able to share them with you. btw, how do you resize a picture in the BBcode?
We don't have any native solutions for resizing images I'm afraid. You'll need to use an external method of resizing an image or hide the image in spoiler tags if you feel the image is large.

Thanks again everyone for the great recommendations. I've watched a few so far and have enjoyed them all.
