There are a couple of points that from the original thread that should be reiterated:
- We may need to disable the extension - possibly indefinitely - with no notice if there are compatibility issues. We may also disable the extension if it leads to a toxic environment.
- We want to make clear that from a mod perspective we would not place any value in thanks that a user has received when we’re making any moderating decision.
- We want to make clear that from a mod perspective we would not place any value in thanks that a user has received when we’re making any moderating decision.
While we're confident that this will never be necessary we also want to make everyone aware that if, for whatever reason, we need to make a moderating decision based on the misuse of the thanks button, the forum rules do still apply.
The option to remove the thanks you have given to a post has been enabled based on the discussion starting here in the original thread. You can do this by clicking the thanks button again.
In the original discussion thread we explained our intention to clear the thanks that had been given in during the trial period but, since we let the trial period run longer than we'd planned and because there was minimal testing of the thanks button compared to actual use, we've decided not to clear the counters.
If anyone has any further thoughts, questions, or concerns, feel free to post them in this thread, send me or any other mod a message, or use our off-site contact details.
