For the most part, this will not change the day-to-day experience of the forum. The goal of this rule is to add one extra step - that being that a user must ask a moderator for permission beforehand - to check that the content a user wants to post is reasonable. We want to be able to prevent any post that contains anything that is a detriment to the board as a whole, especially posts by people who would like to take advantage of the users here, much like the trolling rule.If you wish to post a message that is an advertisement, an offer to trade or sell products or services, a charitable appeal, or any other post or content promoting a cause, venture, or website, or any request for information for surveys or other information gathering purposes, you must ask for and obtain permission from the moderators beforehand.
This applies if money is involved or if not. This applies to all of the forum, including posts, your signature, your profile, your avatar, and private messages.
This rule will apply to private messages. If you receive a private message and believe it to break this rule, you can report the message so that a moderator can see the contents.
There are exceptions to this new rule. The rule will not normally apply if you want to promote your personal social media, a video or other form of content you have created, the social media of a person or group relevant to the discussion on this forum, or the social media or content another person or group has created, as long as these are in the correct thread or appropriate place and follow the rules. The rule will also not apply to polls created through the polling feature available on the forum, with the exception of polls created by users to gather information solely for an external project or purpose.
The moderators may remove any post or section of a post that we determine to be in breach of this rule. Contact us if you have any doubts.
