I'm basically a YouTube prediction God at this point :bloom:
Lol, do we need to talk about all your theories from last year that didn't come true? :poke:

To stay on topic, I'm bummed that VidCon isn't doing general livestreams this year because I really wanted to see Safiya and Cristine's panel. Hopefully someone filmed it and is going to upload it later. :please:

Oh no! I didn't know they weren't gonna stream it. Does that mean they won't be filming them at all?

edit: the panels I mean. i won't ever be able to make it to vidcon, but i love watching the panels.

I don't know about what's being filmed, but the VidCon YT channel is only streaming a few specific events unlike last year. :|

Oh my gooood i found Saf's videos like, last week. I mean i knew she existed (thanks d&p) but I never fotos to watch her, but oh boy i enjoyed that rabbit hole, those decades clothes videos saved my life i found her and Tyler super entertaining and oh my god her voice Is so soothing what the hell. The only thing that i'm not really convinced are those wish make up videos that Is so toxic, i'm glad not to be the only one thinking that. I can't wait for the next video.

Safiyas new video
I found this video to be very interesting, it's so creative and as usual, she's very nice and approaches everything with a very intelligent sensitivity.
For example, apparently there were some issues with blurring in one part of the video and she addressed it on twitter:

I love the video overall, but some parts felt a bit serious? especially the end. I was surprised that she seemed to be vaguely calling people out, although I'm not sure if that's what's actually happening since I don't know about any other beauty channels/general drama.
I'm probably overthinking though. I really did like the video - Safiya is incredible at coming up with such unique and interesting videos :love1:

I was pleasantly surprised to see her take a stance on sponsored videos. Several vloggers who work in Saf's genre do play hard and fast with the rules when it comes to sponsored content, and their behavior flat out isn't ethical. I'm glad she's using her ever-growing platform for good.

If I can convert time zones correctly, Safiya's merch is dropping in less than an hour.

I'm still salty about Vidcon not having a livestream this year, but at least they filmed things and are apparently uploading bits and pieces throughout the year. Now we've finally got a glimpse of Cristine and Safiya's Q&A from last June. It didn't really give me any new insight into them or their work, but it's always nice to see them interacting.

Another thing: did anyone end up getting any Safiya merch? I was excited when she announced she would release merch, but in the end, none of it was in any way my style and I didn't want to pay for overseas shipping and customs fees, so I didn't get any. :|

I never expected to be this happy about a pair of strangers getting engaged! :happytears:

(I felt like crying, but my current medication annoyingly flattens my mood just enough that I didn't quite get there. :?)

omg I'm so happy for them <3

I didn't cry, just silently squealed over the cuteness and I don't even really care for the concept of weddings and everything around it. I really love the thought behind the color of the diamond, it's so very Safiya and I love 'unusual' engagement rings like that.

I'm really happy for them but I was upset to see that she had to tweet out that she wasn't pregnant and that people were asking her that/bringing up her weight instead of just congratulating her.

I was annoyed by the Wish wedding dress video because I really wished Safiya wouldn't do any more Wish videos, but the two videos after it have been very enjoyable.

Btw, is anyone a member of her channel? I'm trying to decide if a membership would be a worthy enough investment.

I'm not a member. I don't have ad blockers on YouTube so I feel like I'm contributing by watching the ads with her videos as she's not one to get demonetized.

I loved her recent closet video! Aside from being entertaining, it inspired me to reorganize my own drawers and closet. I've now embraced the file-folding system so I can have that sweet drawer porn too. So, thanks, Safiya!

Same, I'm contributing by watching ads, but since she promised weekly livestreams for members, I'd like to know what those are like and if there are other perks.

Me too! I've folded and stored my clothes Marie Kondo-style for four or so years already, and the system really works! Not that the organising system Saf and Tyler ended up with is pure Konmari, but the file-folding is the most useful part of the method in my opinion. I still wonder how long they're going to be able to keep everything organised when they've got so many clothes...

I'm going to answer my own question from months ago. Getting a membership for Saf's channel was definitely worth it at least for me! Saf and Tyler do an hour-long livestream on most weeks and uploaded some short behind-the-scenes videos while they were travelling and couldn't stream. In every livestream, they do some pre-planned activity (usually playing games) and briefly talk about YouTube and wedding-related things.

ngl I let out a few tears at their first look. :love2:

Their wedding was honestly gorgeous. Absolutely loved the magical celestial theme of it. Nothing was tacky or over the top. Both of Safiya's wedding looks were gorgeous, they matched her personality and aesthetic so well. And their Addams Family style tango was incredible.

I may have sobbed a little. They are so wonderful together.

There are some extra behind the scenes in this video from the production company too, and the guy seems really sweet.

Safiya updated her blog yesterday with a rather lengthy post about why she hasn't been creating content much since her wedding. I'll post a link below, but I did want to say first that I give her so much credit for posting this. It can't have been easy to be so vulnerable and open for her fans, but I'm sure they appreciated it. I wish her all the best going forward!

I also really liked her post. It can't have been easy to be so vulnerable when part of what has been causing some of her issues has been being exposed to people picking her apart.

I was very interested to read about her problems with time management and structure, because I am curious about creative people -- especially self-employed ones -- do those sorts of thing. It does sort of confirm for me that it can be hard to figure those sorts of things out, especially when you go from zero to sixty like can happen on YouTube. I'm glad she's taking some time to really identify the various sources of her struggle right now.

I think moving is good since she's realized being closer to a support system is important, but I'm especially intrigued by her idea of doing a "season" approach to her YouTube career by doing sprints of content creation that she can build up to release over time and to have those sorts of sprints interspersed with longish planned breaks.
