Other people's mileage may vary, BUT. Early/mid 2000s when I was going through A/AS-Levels at a grammar school in NW England, it was expected, almost to the point of being mandatory that you would apply to Uni, even if you had little/no idea of any end-goal career-wise. I knew I wanted to go on and study languages, as it was what I had always been best at academically (Did French, German, Computer Studies (mistake!) and Music at A-Level) and got into my first-choice uni/course, but a LOT of my friends felt a bit pressured more into APPLYING to uni, rather than thinking about potential careers and how their choice of degree course would affect that. With the result that my two best friends had very different opinions of Uni: one did Joint Honours English Language and Media Studies, and now writes synopses (synopsises? yeah, it might be different in the uk but where i live people who work in the media have the most random degrees, from law to interior design, it's more about selling yourself and making people take you seriously than anything else, and any degree fulfills the 'i am a smart person' category, sometimes i feel like i'm doing something wrong by actually studying communicationsangrymob wrote:If he wanted to work in media, a degree regardless of what it's in, would be required.
