I cant even describe how much I am loving having these two fics in my life right now( despite my overall aversion to wips)

They are so different in their storyline perspectives and so well written- I am just glad that the updates are frequent!
The last two chapters of this fic really struck home for me as I know what its like to make choices based on what you think is the best thing for you at a time and then get caught up in the day to day pull of life and close yourself off to anything that might contradict your decision. At least until you get to a point where you cant deny that circumstances have changed and you need to re-think and re-balance your life and then coming to terms with the hurt that causes to those around....I'm clinging to the happy ending and I want to see how the author navigates the road to reconciliation
I feel like there might be some trouble coming with the trip up north and I hope I like the fic Mama Lester!
The slow burn that this relationship is in is so equally delicious and frustrating-I am really enjoying the development of the emotional side more than the physical and really appreciate the ace perspective
Now that I apparently read WIPs- does anyone have any other recommendations for ongoing, consistently updated things I should check out?

My rec of the day is Sweet pea by botanistlester. It's mostly a Phil story as opposed to a phan story, about an abusive relationship (Dan is not the abuser, don't worry). It's very well written, 20+ chapters are out and it updates every Saturday.

co-stars by mollieblack is a porn star au that seems to get a chapter (or two) every day (or two  ). basic premise is they're costars in an ethical porn, so obv there's immediate smut. but at the same time, slow burn romance. sometimes it's vaguely out of character, but besides that it's well written, and the movie they're making has an interesting and kind of touching plot.

Oh, curse you all for roping me into a wip!! but not really because I'm living for this story -
ughmph, character development is so my kink! Question: when are the updates? I read so many books at one time I need to set calendar reminders for non-completed fanfics if I don't want to forget about them!

*my phone isn't letting me hide this, so I'm just going to shout Trigger Warning below!*

though I have to confess that I have gotten slightly triggered with this story regarding the self-harm and depression. I'm not sure what it is because the mentions have been subtle and rather tasteful considering and I often read stories way more explicit without feeling triggered myself? The only thing I can think of is that the description is so good as opposed to the usual shoddy fics that I can relate more. And now I'm annoyed with myself because I'm really into this fic and I'm all jittery. Sorry Idk, I'm just waffling. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've read a match and a fuse and personally, I think it's great so far. I'm definitely looking forward to the next chapter coming out.

I do like the fact that Dan and Phil are getting closer (and developing feelings for each other) in the fanfiction. I wonder if Phil will ever come clean about his feelings to his family.

This chapter was just sheer perfection.

I've said it to Sarah before and said it again privately to her this morning, but one reason this fic just really works is that we're shown a lot of small moments but none of them are redundant. Phil's conversation with Jimmy is a step past his conversation with Rory, his conversation with Cornelia is a step past his conversation with Jimmy. There's progress embedded in every chapter, nothing is drawn out without purpose. Every single chapter that goes by without them kissing reaffirms to me that the chapter contained a necessary step Phil needed to accomplish for himself before moving ahead with Dan.

Yes, this. A chapter of basically just Phil talking to a side character would just feel like a filler in any other fic but Sarah makes it so every conversation leads somewhere. These conversation chapters feel like a push forward in the story, the push Phil needs for his confidence and an opportunity to get an outsiders perspective on his situation. I think that's why the pacing of the story works so well even if it's the most excruciating of slow burns.

I just read the latest chapter :garbage: . I'd lie if I said I didn't enjoy it. I liked the tidbit of the Phil/Cornelia interaction, I'd like to read more about the two of them (and Martyn, obviously). I'm still wondering when he'll come clean to his parents, but I'm pretty sure it'll happen soon enough.

Considering the last line was about Phil kissing Dan, I'm personally looking forward for it to happen. We'll probably still need to wait for a few chapters, but I'm sure it will be well-written and everything. :respekt2:

amaaf: cuddles and calm lovely feelings mixed with a bit of trepidation about family's opinions? sign me right tf up, honestly. the nail polish part was literally the sweetest thing i've ever read, got me all happy weepy. phil is nervous but he's not gonna hide dan or let him tone himself down, and i'm proud of him for it. also i stand by my christmas adventure prediction, dan is the sweetest boy and i would cry too if anyone did that for me. :happytears:

and maybe my prediction about the Christmas adventure might come true omg

Read the latest chapter. I think Phil's parents caught on at this point - and personally I think they're accepting, but we'll see - so I'm looking forward to seeing a conversation with them soon. I'm definitely looking forward to more Dan and Phil fluffy scenes - the most recent chapter was so fluffy - and I'm glad they're growing closer to each other now. :love2:

So uh... latest chapter of DTU, huh?

I'm glad they've both reached a point where everything is out in the air, they both know what they've done wrong in the past and why things turned out the way it it did. Now they just have to heal and (hopefully) find their way back to each other, rebuild that trust that has been crushed over and over. It's going to be a pain though doing that while going through a divorce and a separation and moving houses. Maybe they both move into Dans house and June and the kids stay next door, that'd be nice.

I agree with you, @kavat. I actually feel relieved by what went down in this chapter because it was pretty obvious that they couldn't get together yet as much as we'd all been waiting for it. I'm assuming next up in the story will be Phil and June telling the kids about the divorce, which will be interesting but probably also painful.

edit: I'd just like to clarify that I'm not relieved because I though that anything else but what happened would happen but because we're finally in the point where they can start healing and work towards getting together.

(re: A Match and a Fuse)

i have, and have unfortunately had to stop reading it. i think it will be amazing to come back to in the future, just not right now. my guess is it may be particularly triggering because of how the author deals with the depiction (eg. it's centered around Phil and the two character's interaction, which a lot of people reading don't have when dealing with their own depressive episodes - and can be a common idealisation fantasy). i find the use of the word 'recovery' a little triggering too as clinical depression (at least the long-term type described in the character) is a lifetime affliction.

i didn't want this to be my first comment on the fic - i do really like it! i just thought your comment was important to highlight, because if we feel that there will no doubt be others, and sometimes it's helpful to be reminded it's totally okay to step away from consuming certain topics whenever you need to.

from what i could read the demisexuality is done as well as it can be for such a complicated and personal spectrum experience; it's why i know i'll finish it. there needs to be more representation (everywhere) so the experience is less lonely, and i was very surprised to find it in phan fanfic. major kudos to the author!

I came here to be just ABANDONED HOSPITAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a bit but I just wanted to also say:
I don't know how far you got in the fic, but amaaf is extremely clear about the fact that Dan's depression will "always sometimes" be a big scary thing in his life, and that it's not glamorous or artsy, and that Phil doesn't always know how to help and sometimes can't do anything (and much of the worst he's not around for), but he tries because he cares about Dan. Obviously anyone's reaction to it is theirs and if it's triggering for you, that's valid and a good reason to wait to read or to stop. But some of these concerns are directly addressed in the fic and it avoids these pitfalls that people (understandably) fear when reading takes on mental health in fic, so as a caught-up reader it feels like you're selling it short.
