Speaking of Tumblr, aside from liking stuff and video posting, Dan seems to not use his anymore? He used to actually use like any of us mere mortals (those who can actually be arsed to anyway, unlike me oops) but he hasn't since September. I guess the queue ran out. I know he hasn't been particularly consistent with updating it even before then but I wonder if he's really over it now? ive been doing the same thing, im limiting my social media usage (expect youtube) and it's been good on my mental health. i have pretty much stopped using Facebook which is relieving. if it's bettering his mental health, then good on him! i just hope he is okay!

I actually feel like he’s been tweeting more than usual tbh. Well in the past couple weeks. Yeah his tumblr seems to be dead but it seems like he’s atleast trying to tweet something every couple days, where in the past he could go a very veryyyy long time with actually tweeting anything except gaming video links. I do like your point about him maybe trying to stop over sharing with his audience. I feel like he’s trying to being more honest or authentic with things he’s trying to share. He definitely still tweets every few days, you're right. They're just much more Phil-like tweets in that they're basically never about what he is doing/thinking/feeling in a moment and generally more of a very surface observation type tweet. The passionate opinions or insight into his emotional state have definitely all been sanitized away.

Tumblr as it is isn't a great website to frequent for positive mental health as it is. Though, I do think Dan (and Phil!) are probably missing the mark by not engaging more. I only say that as they are some of the most popular influencers in the website...for those who no longer even use it. I just think it's a shame that they no longer continue something that made them popular/helped their channels grow. They do use Twitter more often, and they aren't bombarded with probably dodgy stuff like on Tumblr, so maybe they're happy with that step back. Idk

Regarding social media, one thing I’ve been thinking recently is *how* they share photos. Almost all the selfies and such that they post on Tumblr, are just redirected from Instagram (Phil has been doing this a little bit less recently). Which I get how that is nice and convient, especially while traveling, but there was a Dan ls last year (I think) where he was wondering out loud about sharing a photo set on Tumblr via Instagram and asking if it would show all the photos or just the first one. The chat told him it would just show the first and he was like nevermind then. And I thought, dude, you know you can upload multiple photos directly to Tumblr right? I get that they want to promote their presence on multiple social media platforms, but it seems like there is some benefit (not just laziness) to promoting their Instagrams especially. Is there a indirect or direct montetary benefit that I don’t know about with Instagram?

imo they do need to step up their social media game when tour comes around to keep people interested when there aren't a lot of videos (yes I know they said they'd upload a lot but I'm v skeptical) and they're gonna need all platforms. Tumblr is still the most popular platform for the phandom I think. So I do hope Dan's Tumblr hiatus is temporary, but if he really is done with it for mental health reasons or something then I guess that's that

I think Instagram is (next to Facebook obviously) the most popular social media platform for the general public atm? So they might indirectly reach more people, with their algorithms putting people you don't even follow in your feed. That's all I can think of, Insta sucks for actual engagement with people imo which is what I and a lot of other fans want out of social media interaction. Twitter isn't as popular anymore and Tumblr has always been a bit niche. But a lot of celebs seem more active on Insta than anywhere else so I can imagine there being other benefits.

If they wanted to drive their followers back to twitter or IG where they can monetize them, I think they should start using their own livestream features (Periscope and InstaLive) They might not be the best but it'd help the flow of people go through there.
I was a very avid Tumblr user, not anymore. It got old and boring, nothing new going on there and it's been a while since either of them been online. I feel it's no longer their niche,
I hope that if Dan's decision to cut back on his SM usage is due to his mental health, to stick with it. Happy Dan is the only Dan I'm interested in.

Hello, I have been lurking for a bit & decided to do 2 very scary things - socialise AND express an opinion

I have a bit of a "theory" about the whole tumblr/SM use thing
1) Dan said (in the internet is mean + in several life stream) that he is a perfectionist and very conscious about what he posts on the internet, meeting certain expectations & self-set standards etc. I think if you overthink every possible post, you'll often just come to the conclusion to just not post anything because it is the saver option (and in his defence, his posts are being watched by a huge audience and even his likes are being picked apart, so no wonder he is very conscious)

2) I'm about Dan's age and have been a massive tumblr user since the very beginning of the platform, but over the last 1-2 years I have started to loose interest and sort of "grown out of tumblr" (and so have my friends). So maybe it's just a thing that is happening organically - after all there are so many SM platforms and one can only invest time and effort in so many

3) Related to the self-care theory, I find tumblr is home to the most toxic part of the phandom (not saying every phan that uses tumblr is toxic - I think you'll probably understand what I mean) with people picking apart DaP's every move, taking old posts out of context, making the wildest speculations and accusations. If I were Dan I wouldn't want to expose myself to that kind of negativity (& I am sure if he browses his tumblr there is no way of avoiding it)

I might be wrong & self-projecting here, but that's what I've been thinking about it.



Also, on another note: Am I the only one that finds that Dan looks a bit worrisome in the last 2 DAPG videos? I can't really pinpoint it, whether he looks paler or his eyes look different, but there is something that made him look a bit sick, almost like he has been crying, and it made me worry about him a bit.

No you are not the only one! I've been saying that to my friends within the phandom since I saw the Zelda Olympics.
Seemed like his under eyes were a bit darker (we all know that despite the fact that he tries going to bed at a reasonable hours, he tends to fail miserably) and his overall aspect was a bit....off
I hope it's nothing and just mere asumptions.

Personally I think they're both just super busy with tour planning and getting the tbc dates organized because there have been various editing mistakes (that have been quite noticeable too...) and honestly I think both of them look more run down, but it's harder to tell with Phil because of his complexion and he's better at acting more noticeably cheerful.

I do hope all of it is just some funky Bryony humor. A lot for her sake, also for Wirrow's, and a tiny bit for Dan and Phil. Because having to work around broken-up best friends is easily one of life's most difficult social challenges. Also, selfishly wondering about the future of those double date-cations.

That sucks if it's true. I'm assuming that they've come to that point where they need to make some life decisions and found out that they don't have the same end goals. I hope they can get througg it though.
