...What exactly is busgate? I mean, I've seen that badly acted bit in the TATINOF documentary in which they played rock, paper, scissors to determine who would get the master bedroom but what was so bad about the whole thing that it gets referred to as "busgate" and that people are actually dreading a repeat of it?

The fact that they're in american timezones will never cease to throw me off. It's 9:30 pm where I am and I'm used to being free of them for the evening lol. Now all I'm praying for is that busgate 2.0 never happens.

Pretty sure this is the reason we are not getting the most exciting IG stories and that we are getting them later in the day. They don't want to show the bus.

I don’t really think the fact that Insta stories have been late recently could be explained by D&P not wanting to show the tour bus as it seems like they didn't get on it until now (it's their first night sleeping in it). Phil also said he might want to do a liveshow in the tourbus if that's possible, so I doubt they're that hesitant to show any part of it. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't willing to do a bus tour or discuss their sleeping arrangements though.

For me what I'm dreading is less what Dan and Phil themselves do (because, to be honest, there's not a whole lot Dan and Phil do that upsets fandom that I don't see at least an indirect reason behind) and more the reaction from fandom to it. It's not even one specific reaction, either. Just based on my memory of last time you've got various pockets of people all feeling intense emotions over it - phan vs antiphan, people who don't get why Dan and Phil would lie, people who are offended that Dan and Phil would lie and expect them to believe it, people who are offended that anyone would accuse Dan and Phil of lying, people who generally believe they're a couple but start to feel insecure about phan and start to wonder if they've broken up, people who are on the fence who take this as a firmer sign that they're not together... etc, etc. All of this kind of just boiling up all at once makes for a very bleak phandom landscape and unlike most of the time when things like that happen (like, a video, etc) with busgate - the first time, at least - it was prolonged over the period of tour itself because the bus was a constant presence then renewed with the TATINOF documentary and then renewed again when one of them posted the bus tour on their channel. It was a bit of a wound that wasn't allowed to close for a long time for some people.

But hey, this is 2018, we live in a post baking universe now, maybe they'll haru it totally or maybe they won't and people will be react with maturity and accept Dan and Phil erecting whatever boundaries between us and their bedroom selves that they feel necessary l o l sorry couldn't even finish that sentence.

I was nodding my head in agreement to your post all the way up to 'react with maturity" -- inner thoughts: mhmm, yes very good point. Sigh, wouldn't that be a dream if the Phandom acted mature -- ..... and then in the very next breath snorted out loud laughing because of the phrase 'Dan and Phil erect- -their bedroom'. Oh, the irony!

I am obviously a sensible, mature adult of 24 with a sophisticated sense of humour! although I think honestly that being in the Phandom has actually altered my sense of humour and permitted me to find humour in the more 'baser' of jokes. Interesting thing, that!

Also, I love hearing everyone else's thoughts about queer culture acceptance, thank you for those! And thank you for making me feel comfortable enough to even post things like that. I can tell you the only two places I'm actually 'out' is Twitter (to all 14 followers, so..) and on this forum, largely due to how inclusive and welcoming an environment you bunch are, so I really appreciate it!

Since you can only see one message at a time and they're too short to be meaningful, the main function of the app is to pull an audience member up onto the video screen and talk to them. And that person is always really nervous and startled because it works so quickly.

Like, I want to see how the chat is doing now and if it's handling a larger audience but I can't breathe. My body, man. Why are you like this.

this is interesting because this was the exact climate that made me step away from the fandom years ago in the first place. it wasnt the busgate specifically since i was already gone by then, but it was just a very chaotic climate to be in. thats why i was so surprised when i came back to find everyone, and deppy themselves, far more relaxed than i remembered. of course there are some random pockets in the internet where people still get really anxious about them but i feel like most of the time its either because theyre a newer fan or theyre an older fan that was smack dab in the middle of the warzone and now every single good thing is apparently too good to be true so there MUST BE a catch.

Great post dizzy. It definitely is more about phandom moral than what they actually do or do not say. Maybe because I wasn’t around at the time, but lately whenever I see gifs or a clip of Phil pushing Dan out of that bed and Dan doing a very fake “nooo!” I just laugh because it’s clearly a farce and I think meant to be humorous, because platonic or romantic, they totally shared that bed.

Also a tiny belated thought about Dan’s twitter reply after the Sims, about falling asleep with his laptop on him. I feel like that comment can be read as falling asleep alone after wanking to porn, and probably would have been interpreted that way more previously, but after ‘Trying to Live My Truth’ and also ‘Giving the People What They Want’, I don’t feel like anyone could be accused of reaching for assuming it was after sex in a shared bed.

So yeah, I don’t really care what they say or show, or don’t say or show this time around, but the dread of the phandom reaction is real.

thanks for reminding me that clip, theres so much soft energy in it that it makes me wanna cry but anyways, i think i have more faith in dnp right now. they seem to be handling us pretty well compared from what ive heard from you guys about the previous tour and i definitely think that theyre the type to learn from what went wrong (or at least try to the best of their capacity). all these little tidbits like casually showing us their bed during the WITL or every time they dont try to censor their attraction to men, does work well in slowly easing us in a more comfortable position. so yes, either theyre going to comically haru it or theyll just say a half truth in a matter-of-fact manner then go on their way.

Well that solves that. Though I’m having horrible faux flashbacks to “no bunk”, I’m really glad they can make top or bottom jokes now. (Also having memories of holding hands with a boy I liked who slept on the bunk above me on a night train to Rome. Turned out he was gay.) Yay gaming lounge. I imagine there will be other crew members on that bus occupying those other bunks and using the front lounge while they potentionally film.
