Loved the video! But I made the mistake of scrolling through the comments and now I’m slightly worried. There’s quite a few along this line:

Apparently it’s about how a part of his brain extends into spinal canal. I checked Facebook and people with the same conditions have posted about this too. I’m glad that at least he got checked up quite thoroughly this time but maybe he should also look it up and get a second opinion? But then again I read up on it a little and saw that other than in extreme cases that require surgery, doctors would recommend less stress and enough resting which is what he was told anyway.

Apart from what’s already been discussed here about the video, I love the fact that he mentioned PJ’s health video twice. I thought of that too while I watched Phil’s. Oh and I love the emoji pants shot. Interesting angle. Why this angle though? My mind went somewhere so maybe I should stop now...
I was waiting for someone with medical knowledge to analyse the scans :D
Speaking about medical issues always invites armchair doctors, but since he actually included HD scans, I was wondering if something actually smart and legitimate would be said.

Aww I loved this video! It's so nice to finally have solo content, I love them together but I really missed this! It makes me miss solo Dan videos/liveshows even more!

I'm also loving this new, more relaxed version of Phil :happytears: I'm glad he's okay but the brain scan part made me feel weird, I hate thinking about what's going on in my body, it's like when you become aware that you're breathing and suddenly you don't know how to breathe anymore but like, 10 times worse

Anyway, even though it must have been really stressful at the time I can't get over this whole situation :

Phil: Dan!
...
Phil: DAN!
...
Phil: DaaAAAAnnN
Dan: Wot?
Phil: I fell OvER!!
...
Dan: omgwhathappenedareyouokayarehurtshouldicallanambulancedoyouneedanything??
Phil (in a moment of clarity): toast!
Dan: ...I'm sorry what?
Phil: TOAST!!

i'm not a doctor, but... there was an MRI and a Cat Scan done. i'm sure the doctors would see that and not keep it from him if it was something that serious. i hate the comment section on dnp's videos sometimes. most times.

Any opinions on if Phil requested the MRI through standard NHS procedure / in a public hospital? Or is it more likely he got that scan through privately paid health care, considering when he got the scan he was already released from the hospital and I've read that 4 days would be very quick to get that kind of scan for a person that got dismissed and appears to be in good health?

I didn't mean that I was waiting for someone to be smarter than his doctors, I was more looking for some general brain knowledge. Maybe there isn't much to say about brains?

Not too surprised that the comments are gone, but he must have expected that to happen?! The internet is terrible at not armchair-diagnosing and at not giving unsolicited advice. And the phandom is always worried and easily freaked out.

Although I'm sure Phil must have expected people to do that, I'm not surprised the top comments regarding his health are gone - like, i understand people wanting to help but especially for hypochondriacs those kind of comments just cause a lot of stress, imo.

I loved the video but kinda like Daniel and depression, I can't see myself rewatching it. Honestly, left me a little concerned that he's taking his headaches as part of his life and constantly popping ibuprofen out of avoidance or fear and he could end up seriously ill in the future.

Here I go with the unpopular opinion again, but in this case I looked at some images of what those viewers suggested and I have to admit they might be onto something. Maybe not exactly that, maybe a very mild form, maybe something similar. (Or not, of course us without medical degrees don't know.)
But I unfortunately have a lot of experience with doctors both as a patient and as a carer, for many different specialties - I've even had to do heavy research to self-diagnose for a particular thing the doctors kept dismissing until an MRI confirmed my theory. Doctors do their best, but one overworked nhs doctor saying you have nothing while symptoms are still there and a lot of people point to a specific issue, is at least worth a second opinion. Doctors are amazing but they also fuck up or miss stuff. Often. Being an informed patient, as much as you can, is the best option for your own health. Saying "well, the doctor said that, so it's over because he must be right" is a very risky attitude imo.
I hope even if Phil deletes the comments (which, yeah, fair enough, especially if some of those are people just talking out of their ass or being read by impressionable younger viewers) he will ask (or has asked) for that second opinion to find a more sound answer for something that's been affecting him for years now. Poor lad.

Chiming in to second the unpopular opinion, because here's where I stand on it: Doctors do miss things sometimes, especially if the doctor themselves hasn't been exposed to a specific condition. And Phil posted his MRI to millions of people, some of whom just statistically would be medical professionals or people who have a personal reason to recognize something in the scan. So while I wouldn't say we, as an audience, cannot armchair diagnose him, I also think in this specific situation that if an overwhelming number of people are currently saying to Phil, "I recognize that, because I have that." or "I am a medical professional and I see something." and every symptom fits then would not be the most unwise move for Phil to check with his doctor.

I can understand why he's deleting comments, though. Especially if it's something he hasn't asked a doctor about yet, or something he already knew and opted not to share.

I kind of expected this to happen when I saw that he included his actual scans. I'm not a medical professional, but I knew there'd be lots of people chiming in.
My opinion is that, while some of the comments are just causing anxiety/people coming up with wild ideas, the ones that seem to have identified his possible condition are actually helpful. If this gives Phil an idea of something to bring up with his doctor, it's good for him.

I do imagine this might be stressful for him though. He thought he's showing fun harmless scans, and people are coming up with ideas, bringing that anxiety back.

All that said, for all other anxious people like me, I read up on the possible diagnosis and it doesn't seem to be a scary condition. Phil is going to be fine.

The unsolicited diagnosis stuff makes me sad. I suspect it's things like these that make Dan and Phil quietly think... "ehhh why would i make my channel more personal." You kind of have to be crazy to share more than strictly necessary with an audience of millions, and especially the fandom ;)
I'm not sure if he expected this. He doesn't regularly remove the top comments, so it could have struck a chord or could have surprised him. The amount of mothering and well-intentioned but not necessarily good advice thrown at him is on a different scale compared to some other youtubers and he's confronted with it a lot more directly than other popular entertainers would.
I don't blame the people who feel like they have to share what they experience/know to much in this case becayse I think they must mean well, but Phil is imo right to not pay to much attention to any "diagnosis". He can't know how reliable the source is and he's not in a good place to verify or judge the value of this. The best thing you can do is go by what medical professional you trust says. Especially if he really is a hypochondriac.

My issue with the comments is that a lot of symptoms can occur for vastly different reasons. It's not illogical to think that the doctor who did multiple tests on him, including a CT scan and an MRI with contrast agent, two of the most accurate diagnostic exams, wouldn't see if there's something wrong. Or maybe they did see it, and did tell him and Phil just decided to keep it to himself. That could also be the case.

It's not even Phil in particular I'm worried about, but if someone is prone to frequent headaches and read that kind of comment, they could jump to conclusions. That's why it's risky. It's not a discussion happening in some forum or closed group of people that all experience the same kind of symptoms and situations, it's on social media posts. There's a difference and I don't agree with that.

Now lemme just call my dad who is a MRI specialist and ask him to look at Phil's video, maybe if he offers a free consult I can translate :ribena: (I'm joking ofc just to make it clear)
Will probably never be over the BONCAS and how cute Phil Lester is.

I'm not ruling that one out. In this case, what people are recognizing and suspecting he might have is actually not something that seems to be treatable (for the type his symptoms fit) and it's not something serious. If he was aware of it and just wanted to avoid using scary words like "malformation" that would upset the audience, then I'd definitely understand it.

But I will say again that I think it's entirely possible one doctor who looked at Phil and saw a healthy person without anything jumping out as obviously wrong in the scans, and had another more obvious answer to the immediate symptoms presenting (sinus infection caused him to faint) might not scrub deeper than that. Lots of doctors miss things the first time around.

I guess I'm falling along the middle of the fence here. Not everything the internet says is going to be pointless hand-wringing, especially in an audience as big as theirs there will be actual people who know what they're talking about. But the volume at which that response hits Phil would be stressful and I don't think he has any obligation to address it to us whether it's something he knew, something that's already been ruled out, or something he had no clue about and is going to look into. Also I think if deleting the comments makes him feel better I'm definitely not upset about it.

Yeah I'm not ruling out the fact that in the audience there's definitely medical professionals who could very much see something in the MRI image he showed (albeit small and on the side) but even if they did see something it would still need to be confirmed by other tests and a full medical history (that im gonna assume is way deeper than what Phil said in the video). All I'm saying is that it's likely he went to a private doctor since the MRI was done so soon and he has all means to look deeper if the doctors had even a inch of doubt, especially because Phil got such a big scare out of it. We know he tends to dismiss casual medical needs like when Dan has pneumonia, but I think this is the case where he would want to try most tests to see what's the issue. And I'm gonna assume a private doctor would do the tests even if unlikely to give an answer.

But maybe I'm just biased because I've grown up surrounded by medical people and I know from my own experience that it's frustrating to feel like the professionals have no answers. And yeah, i agree that some doctors can miss stuff, but in general I think I'd still trust the professional that has the chance to see you and talk to you and who also saw the CT scan and blood test results (again, assuming they did told him no other answer instead of Phil choosing to not disclose it)
Will probably never be over the BONCAS and how cute Phil Lester is.

i get why some fans are worried and want to alert phil, i'm not saying they're right, i don't
really have an opinion on that, but what really bothers me is that they're literally flooding phil with thousands of comments! i've seen many many many tweets tagging phil in posts about the malformation (i even saw people saying they're not in the phandom
but tagging him anyway just for him to see)

so that + the facebook and youtube top comments he had to remove, that's a lot for one person. i cant even imagine what it's like to have thousands of people telling you on every social media platform that you have a malformation, and i guess it's even worse if he does know about it!

so yeah i may be the only, maybe it's personal but i'm really bothered by the reflex of flooding someone's timeline and comments
section like this, especially because we don't know if he knows or not

It's not that uncommon to get an MRI within the week on the NHS, especially if someone cancels and they suddenly have a free slot. You can go home and come back as an outpatient. The only thing is that he has his actual images from the scan, which you wouldn't routinely get on the NHS.

Pretty much agree with the recent posts. The only thing I’m bothered by is the phrasing of comments as “Phil you have...” when it should be “you might have...” or “it looks like”. Though maybe they can see things more clearly than I in those pictures. It’s odd, I reasons one of the reasons was a smaller skull... Phil has a pretty big skull, though it is differently shaped. But anywho, yay Oreo donuts!

Interesting. That sounds very similar to what would be normal routine in a Belgium hospital (you can come in as an out-patient, get lucky with cancelled appointments and wouldn't get the actual scan images either). My thought was that he probably went to a private doctor to get the testing mainly because of the speed of the new appointment despite being dismissed, but now i'm undecided again. I would think it can't be that hard to get the actual images if you specifically ask for them (and are willing to pay).

No wonder they were saying that PINOF might be early December, that's so soon.
ETA: that the ticket comes with a copy of the DVD and they are doing a Q&A afterwards. I do hope they manage to livestream it.
