I’m very much solidly and firmly of the belief that Phil’s currently filming against a wall in the flat that they live in. (Or that he's set up in a new location already but the first is more likely at this point). Either way I'm sure he's not filming in their filming flat anymore.

With dapg no longer in the picture and now Phil’s no longer filming in that place + Dan mentioning he’s planning on changing his background too the function of that place is rendered useless. They’re getting rid of it.

I think they’ll need to start packing up that place around this time. Assuming they sign their rental agreements yearly, their rental agreement is up some time in March. In Dan’s April 4th 2017 liveshow his room was pretty much bare. He's also mentioned that they were already moving during ‘That Week In March’ whilst he was going through his meds withdrawals etc. We’re at the end of January now so they’ll need to pack up their stuff soon to fit in with that timeline. Also in order for their landlord to move on with other tenants and flat viewings etc. I’m sure they’ll want their stuff out before that happens.

They still have that flat and it’ll still be officially theirs until March(ish) but they’ll need to get their stuff out etc. Packing up the AP and DINOF rooms last makes sense.

Also, forgive me and correct me if I’m wrong but the filming flat is the one with most of their actual big stuff in it. Like, all the furniture in the filming flat is theirs. We know some of the stuff in their living flat isn’t theirs ie. the sofas etc. I assume all the matching white shelves/tables/stands aren’t theirs and perhaps the table? Regardless, they’ll have more large stuff to move/get rid of from their filming flat. Plus, they can pack up that flat now without it interfering with their daily lives.

Them starting to slowly pack up that place could also account for why we never got a baking video despite Phil saying we would get one. It would make sense to pack up the rooms they use the least first. We haven’t seen that kitchen/the slounge in months.

And yeah, his background is a white wall. His shot is so tightly angled and deliberately zoomed in. He can move it to a completely different white wall in a completely different place and most people would never know.

I’m very curious as to what this means for filming in their actual forever home. We have Phil filming very tightly angled against a nondescript wall. No identifying features. Nothing that gives it away. If Dan does the same and makes his background also a white wall with no identifying features and we don’t have a gaming room I wonder how much we’re going to see of their new place. I wonder if we’ll get insight through Dan’s video skits if he does any. Of course there’ll be pictures but I wonder if they’re going to be more ~careful about it this time. (Or whether they’ll rent an office type thing. Also possible imo.)

Setting up a filming room which is half Phil’s and half Dan’s would make sense. Having a camera in the middle of the room and just turning it to face whatever wall is needed by the person is filming is quite possible imo.

I liked Phil’s video. It wasn’t much but it was enough imo. An optimistic start.

I’m missing Dan. I know he’ll make a video when he’s ready to make a video but he’s absent on all platforms. I hope he ~returns soon. Even just through IG stories or a few more tweets than we’re getting now.

I’m very curious as to whether Dan’s going to enable memberships on his channel. He’d need to be making more content than he has been if people are going to be paying monthly for it. I wonder whether he can commit to that. I also wonder if him turning on memberships (if he does) means he’s refraining from posting until he’s 100% ready bc it means he’ll /have/ to be actively posting content. Usually when Phil does something, Dan does it too.

Definitely sounds like they’ve had their sit down meeting/planning session for the year. Ready to see it all unfold.

I liked this video! It was really nice to see Phil on YouTube again. :) Here are my highlights:
  • [1:04] Phil explains why he wants to change his video background. He says that it’s a bit weird having a tripod and camera and lights pointed at his bed all the time because people who visit who don’t know what he does thinks it looks like a porn set. He also thinks it gives his videos a bit of a “sexy” vibe. Phil says he’s not changing his background because he’s maturing and doesn’t like bright colors any more. Finally, he says that sitting on a bed while filming videos hurts his back.
  • [3:20] Phil reads out “a bitch,” the name of a Twitter user who made a suggestion for his new video background. For many reasons, I find this moment utterly hilarious!
  • [4:05] Yikes. Just...yikes.
P: That one is tickling my not yodeling pickle.
  • [4:46] Phil censors the tweet below suggesting that he should put “The giant dildo” in his new video background. Twenty-four seconds later, he says “penis,” and, on his screen, he shows products like “Grow A Dick” and “You Make Me Horny Gift Wrap.” I can’t say I fully understand why a dildo is such a big deal.
  • [6:07] Phil contemplates whether he wants a statue of a naked man doing a handstand in his background. Unfortunately, he decides against it.
  • [6:55] Phil reveals his new video background. There’s also a noticeable change in how the audio sounds. The sound reminded me of the time when Dan zoomed Phil around the apartment in an office chair.
  • [7:08] Phil says Dan helped him put together his new video background. 😊
  • [8:33] Phil leans down, showing the chair he’s sitting on. To me, it looks like the old green dining chair from Dan and Phil’s old apartment that was highlighted in TABINOF.
  • [8:41] Phil says that a fake plant/tree branch that he bought for his new background was a flop. He says that it’s literally flopping and droopy and that it has performance issues. 😏
  • [9:15] Phil talks about how he’s enabled channel memberships on YouTube.
  • In the video description, Phil has his merch link pointing to danandphilshop.com, which is still okay since the Daniel Howell and AmazingPhil shops are still “smooshed together.”

*deep sighs*

I should have been used to it by now but it still sucks. Apart from having to travel to another country to see II, not getting a chance to buy digital II tour video in any form, now apparently the channel membership feature is not launched in my country so I don't even get to SEE the join button. Welcome to my third world life.

I loved the video though. Phil looks great and well-rested and happy. I hope 2019 and Dan treat him well.

It seems like Phil's video has disappeared from subscription boxes, even though it's definitely still up. Anyone else have this problem? Hope it gets fixed soon, the first 24 hours are the most important for YouTube views :(

Yeah it's not there for me either. I saw another youtuber experiencing the same thing few days ago. We love a working platform.

I can't even see it on his channel, even if I refresh the page on my app?

It's funny how Phil's video circus has distracted us from the bigger question: Where in the world is Dan Howell?

It was definitely way too zoomed in on his face, I noticed that too, and like someone else said, it doesn't leave any room for filming with other people. Think it'll need a bit of adjusting before his next video!

I can find it if I search for AmazingPhil, it's the first result. But aside from that it's like the video was never uploaded. How frustrating, YouTube is such a mess :sideeye:

tbh I am not a big fan of the YouTube membership thing. I feel like it is really expensive to support a single YouTuber, and YouTube takes a cut of 30% of it. I just think it is too expensive to support all your favourite YouTubers. Also I already pay for YouTube Premium, and now i have to pay more money to get all the exclusive content?

But this is more an issue I have with YouTube, not with Phil offering this option. Also I hope Phil still wants to make his content to be accessible, and that he stays with the approach of not having the most exciting perks for the members/ not making liveshows or whole videos inaccessible for a huge part of his audience. But I guess that will depend on how much encouragement people need to sign up for it.

Oh no, hope the issue is fixed soon :/ Poor Phil. Of course that had to happen immediately after his comeback.

Plot twist: Phil's new filming space is already in the new home. :tinfoil: Just kidding, but that would be hilarious.

Phil's shot being so zoomed in makes me question things: 1) does that mean that we're gonna see only that part of the room in all of his videos until they move? 2)It's so tightly angled that what will happen with the videos featuring Dan? Will they just sit on top of each other? Not that I would complain, but like... the space seems very limited to me.

For the forever home my theory is that they will both have their own rooms to film in - and maybe Phil will widen his shot once they moved and show us more of it - and we will see the rest of their house (minus the forbidden land, aka their bedroom) only through skits, ig stories and videos like the mukbang and baking.

For me (on a laptop), the 'join' button is right next to the red 'subscribe' button below the video (and on the channel homepage). On the Channel Memberships FAQ page, there's a list of countries where memberships are available under the 'international pricing' section: https://support.google.com/youtube/answ ... ic=9153998

My join button doesn't show up either but if i go through the link he put in the description it works

I plan on joining in as soon as i pay my credit card this month, it helps that's not that expensive, i see that i'm paying less than people in the uk and usa. i would only ever pay for memberships to less than 4 youtubers, dan and phil being two of them, maybe more if i was rich but *sigh* this day hasn't come yet

youtube fucking up with his video has me more mad than i should be, i can't find it anywhere either, and strangely enough the email notification was the only youtube email in forever that went directly to my spam box, noticed that even before i noticed his video was missing from the sub box and his channel, love having a platform that won't work

i even noticed i had more videos missing than before but since i don't follow anyone as closely as them i don't have concrete evidence to point it out, ugh youtube, how hard is it to show us videos in the sub box?

i liked the video, it's a good one for a comeback, to jump start things, it left me wishing for more and that's a great feeling for a video promoting memberships, and i love the stability that memberships bring to the table, i like that the perks seem carefully planned to both include people with memberships without excluding people that can't pay, but that's just imo

i know we've moved on a bit from discussing the new video, but i can't shake how i feel. watching it made me feel weird. i feel like phil really struggled to know what the say whilst making the video, and it seemed strange to me that he left so many awkward bits in (like even the first thing he said about being a good person), but then i noticed the length of the video... lol

honestly, i thought that it was a pretty bad video. a lot of it was taken up by him looking at people's tweets and i just think that is so lazy. all the dick mentions felt forced to me, as if he was aware about all the jokes people make about dnp's phallic references, and he tried to get in on the joke

i don't know. i've been feeling strange about dnp during their hiatus, and i don't feel like i'm ready for them to come back

I didn't like the video, and I've been trying to work out just why that was. Reading all these comments has actually helped me sort out my thoughts. Going into the video, we knew he'd be changing up his background. I think I was expecting something like "Why I Changed My Hair," with older footage/photos, a few fun stories, and then some sincerity/vulnerability at the end. This video didn't deliver any that for me which was disappointing. I found the waffling about the bed at the beginning to be cringey. Someone else said this above and I completely agree, he should have just said, "I'm getting too old to be sat on my bed in front of a camera." After getting that out of the way, I think he really missed an opportunity by not showing old pictures or footage of his bedspread over the years. He could have thrown in a funny story about picking it out all those years ago, and maybe how he was teased for holding on to it for so long. Or he could have gone into the history of YouTubers sat in front of their beds (starting with Lonely Girl 15) and then gotten into how the platform is changing and he's changing, etc.

I wanted the video to be sincere but also funny, and, for me, it wasn't really either. Even when he switched over to looking for new items to buy, the pacing felt too slow. It needed to be a bit faster with some silly music in the background. It would also have been great to hear Dan judging his choices in the background. That would have broken things up a bit, added a little levity. Then, at the end, I think the camera was set up too close to his face. It may be to carefully frame the shot (I think someone's guess about him filming the slounge is right), but being that close up made me a little uncomfortable. And what was up with that music at the end? It was so somber. It made the end of the video feel a bit depressing.

Long story short, I think the subject matter he chose for his first video of the year was solid, but I think he dropped the ball when it came to execution. This isn't one I would rewatch.
See this is the kind of bed talk I find fascinating, not the whole proof of who sleeps where, but the history, patterns and symbolic nature of it. This made me realize last night that when they lived in their first London apartment Dan actually didn’t sit *on* his bed in his dinof videos, with very few exceptions. The only solo one I can see (from scrolling and clicking on all his currently available vids) is ‘I Can’t Sleep’, which makes sense. Though ironically he’s not sat on the bed in ‘How to Get Out of Bed’ (I’m not counting him lying in bed for skits, just where he is for the talking bit). However the latter came much later, ‘I Can’t Sleep’ was only the second video filmed in that bedroom, as he was filming in the lounge while waiting on furniture, including a mattress, heh. But all his other solo videos are either filmed sat in a chair with the bed behind him, sat in a chair with his black desk behind him, sat at the light desk in the red chair for ISG, sat in the red chair for story times, filmed in the lounge, filmed in what became the gaming channel room, or if he was traveling, obviously wherever he was.

There are only a few other videos filmed on his bed and those are ones featuring other people. There’s Phil in their Red Nose Blindfolded Makeup vid (which was the video right before they dropped TABINOF/TATINOF’. Good to appear close perhaps?). ‘The Photo Booth Challenge’ which was a couple years earlier had them both sat on chairs at the end of the bed. No other videos with Phil were set in that room, besides that tiny bit in one of the pinofs. Of course there aren’t many videos with Phil “as a guest” on Dan’s channel. There are the two AmazingDans, the two ‘Sexy Internet Dating’ vids, ‘Dan and Phil vs Tumblr’, ‘Dan and Phil React to Teens React to Dan and Phil’, the Halloween Baking videos + ‘How to Make British Pancakes’ and the rest are videos during/about their two world tours. That’s it. The only other people who have sat on Dan’s bed in a dinof vid are Tyler Oakley and Connor Franta (you have no idea how much this coincidence delights me). He and Louise are sat in chairs in all of theirs, perhaps because she’s a classy and married lady. And before the move to London Dan only had a handful of videos sat on his bed in their Manchester flat. Some were sat in front of it, one was standing in front of it, several were filmed out in the lounge. There are only two videos made in his University hall room that are still public and there was at least one video filmed on the bed in Phil’s flat, the rest were in his lounge, but these are all either unlisted or private now. And prior to that? Yeah, it’s hard to get a percentage because of all purges, but based on what’s there, sitting on a bed for videos was never really Dan’s thing.

Let’s compare that to Phil. Now, I have no idea about the hundreds of old videos that were made private, but the ones from mid 2008 to mid 2010 were filmed sat on the floor in front of his bed, both at University and while living at home. There are only a few where he is sat on it: ‘Philippa’ lol (though his bedspread isn’t on there because it’s not supposed to be a Phil video), ‘Quickfire’ and ‘Cola Bottle Saliva’ and all the short Q&A’s on his side channel and ‘Zebra’ which was a Q&A with his friend Ben, before pinof. There was also a similar vid called AmazingAlex (I think) but it has disappeared. In the first two pinofs they are on the floor most of the time, with only a few questions being asked with just one of them laying/hanging off the bed, never both at the same time and never sitting. When Phil got his first apartment he filmed a of couple videos on his bed, then moved out into the lounge with his bedspread (the triangle one not the square one) covering the couch and Lion perched on top. After Christmas he did away with the bedspread and sat on the floor of the lounge. In his first video in their shared Manchester flat (‘Living With Robert Patterson’) he filmed on the floor in front of his bed and at the beginning of in the following video (‘Gay Alien Babies’) he said that people commented that they were happy about the return of the bed, so he decided he would stay there. Pinof 3 was filmed on his bed for the first time and after that he just stayed there, with very few exceptions. At the end of January 2012 he got the new bedspread (same pattern as his university one) and so it has been until now.

Do I have some deep insightful conclusion after presenting all this info? Not really. Dan never really got into a habit of filming on his bed so it seems that his viewers didn’t get attached to it (though many probably had a fondness for the desaturated version of Phil’s being part of his background. I still think there’s some kind of metaphor/symbolism there). It seems like it was a pretty easy choice for him to give up filming in a bedroom when they moved, aesthetics and privacy being the main reasons. But Phil knew his viewers were attached to his bed, just as they were attached to his fringe and I think he did genuinely want to please us, sacrificing his own personal growth. There were attempts to ditch it when he moved out into the world/became an adult. He was no longer a university student filming on the floor, or in that state of limbo living with his parents. So he tried to be a bit more mature (not sure if that is actually the right word here) and have us hang out in his lounge instead, but once he invited us (and all the ‘guests’ he collaborated with, regardless of their gender or relationship status) back into his “boudoir”, it seems he got stuck. So cheers to him finally moving on :ribena:

Yeah I was trying to rewatch Phil's video on mobile a few hours ago and it wasn't there on his channel or in my sub box, so I had to find it through the search-bar. That can't be doing his views any good.

Before I saw other people commenting I just thought it was my app messing up, which it has been doing, it *STILL* displays Phil's old profile pic, I can open his profile right now and see his little yellow emo face. You're not entirely free of your past yet Philly.

I quite liked the vid if I haven't said it- it had a nice vibe. :cactus: And I've missed Phil a lot, he's so comforting. And the starving phandom has been fed for now.

While I don't necessarily miss dinof as a channel, because save a few options it was never my fave, I do miss Dan. The lack of insta stories after getting used to them is really driving that point. And the lack of live shows is even worse. I just realized they could be anywhere, doing anything, hell even in another country for all we know - because they're not strangers to delaying stories and such.

I just want to see their faces in a present time, together if they really want to make me happy, but I just want more. I'll forever mourn the loss of dapg
Will probably never be over the BONCAS and the beauty of Phil Lester.

I wouldn’t say that I’m angry but I’m definitely irritated. I completely understand wanting to slow down their pace from last year but this radio silence is what’s getting to me. I’m usually pretty easy to please in regards to dnp but no live shows, no dapg, no tweets, and no Instagram with zero explanation is kind of insulting after last year’s message of “we care about you as much as you care about us”

I don’t ask for much but a tumblr post, some tweets, or by some miracle a video that explains their thoughts would be nice and show that they appreciate their viewers.

And if they truly aren’t ready to come back or if they are over the YouTube thing save the random video then I’d miss it but it would be easier to accept then just not knowing anything.
