Anyone talking about Dan and Phil without bothering to do even a cursory search (to discern that there's more to the knowledge that they're a couple than just 'they live together!') annoys me. I realize this is a conversational format to them and they're not presenting it as anything but a topic they're discussing for shits and giggles, but stuff like 'they're a couple because they live together' is very reductive.

I hope Phil blesses us with his video today and the quiff is in fine, proud form on its birthday!

From what the guy said about a load of his old school friends being really into Dan and Phil, I got the feeling he might be aware of more than he let on, but there’s no proof of that, he did just say that they’ve lived together for years. It’s funny how the way he said Ikea made their apartment sound all cute and picture-perfect.

It was a truly offensive stab to IKEA-loving decorators everywhere  !
I do have to agree that Phil's set looked picture perfect and should really have been sponsored by IKEA. Those bed sheets lasted a lifetime.

For what it’s worth I really enjoy Alex’s commentary and other videos. He uses clickbait titles but almost always ends up giving a fair/non-sensationalist commentary. Their podcast is much more loose/jokey than either of their channels.

I love this photoset so much. @autumnhearth doing good work on that tumblr account.

Oops - tried to embed it and looks like that post type isn't embed friendly. Here are some lovely Phil before/after quiff photo sets for comparison:

Aw, smiling Phil is contagious. <3 I have as much affection for his fringe as I do for his quiff tbh. He's a pretty man.

Those... are definitely quite some emoji hints. I’m none the wiser for them but they did make me curious so good job? Glad there’s an upload soon, I’ve been doing okay with the lack of content but tonight I’ve had constant intrusive thoughts about them that have made me wonder why the hell I care so much, prompted by me seeing this:

Which doesn’t even have anything to do with them but Tyler + candles? Seems like a Dan-bait to me. Wonder if he’ll ever actually get around to making that candle haul. It would be lovely. Anyway, now I can’t sleep so I’m subjecting you all to this, sorry. Hope they’re well and having a peaceful time not being overly present on the internet.

Ya know, I’m thinking I’d almost prefer his return to be a casual video like that... just something to break the ice and lower the expectations bar with all the tension that has been building and building with his hiatus. Then once some of the pressure is relieved, he can hit us with whatever profound waffle he has in store.

(Really do enjoy Phil's content and for keeping us watered during the drought, but does anyone else do that mental math and feel a slight twinge of disappointment when he announces a new video knowing that the absolute bare minimum now for a Dan vid is 2-3 days out.)

I think that would be a great return-to-youtube video. Plenty of space for self-deprecating jokes, life updates, and Dan's style of humor.

But I do feel super sad that Phil's content has become this thing many are using to tide themselves over until Dan posts a video. I mean, I get it, and Phil's latest content isn't exactly groundbreaking, but it's still sad.

what do you mean ? that you feel bad because phil is like a "stand-in" to some people ? if yes then you don't have to because everyone watch youtube videos for different reasons but they still watch it so it has a purpose anyway
i personnaly watch phil's video because i like him and i think his content right now is great

think that no one watch youtube videos for the person itself but always for themselves anyway

if thats not what you mean then oops sorry lmao

I was surprised by how many people in Phil's comments were asking about Dan and requesting he make the video with Dan. It's pretty much just that and the shock porn fic. Which is a whole other thing.

As much as I'm aware that fans miss Dan and I'm on that boat myself, talking about that in fan spaces is different than commenting directly to Phil when he's reading his comments and favoriting some of them. They'd really combined their brands up until 2019, so it makes sense, but it still seems rude.

Yea I wish people would treat them as individuals and respect their individual content. It's Phil's channel and he has in no way indicated Dan would be in the video (unless... Dan's adopted a cowsonna? ). To keep asking for Dan every time Phil communicates is a bit rude and I imagine it can be disheartening for him.

Then again, people in this fandom has always stereotyped them and assumed and implied a whole bunch about them, regardless of what Dan and Phil say themselves. So I think Phil is used to dealing with this.

I’m not surprised tbh, and I doubt Phil is at this point; they had to expect it to some extent going from the way things were at the end of 2018 to Dan/Dan and Phil as a duo not publicly existing for three months. Of course some people are being dicks about it, because The Internet, and I’m sure he must find the sheer volume and insistence of it irritating, but probably not surprising.

It does make me wonder what would happen if their situations were reversed; I’m pretty sure Dan would get just as many comments asking about Phil. I think people just want to see them together at this point. But I agree it’s a shame his comments section is a bit drowned in it all at the moment; I’m glad he’s choosing to highlight a selection of the nice/funny comments he’s getting, as luckily there are still lots of those, too.

I think we'd get just the same If the roles were reversed. Maybe Dan would react with a little more spirit and actually respond to the hundreds of comments flooding his screen. That by itself may trigger a "DaN iS INseSiTIVE" war v234.3 on social media, and it'd be another nice example of the fandom keeping itself going with it's own fresh content

I was just thinking how ironic it is that the "all Phil's plants are dead" meme has been utterly reversed by Phil and his subscribtion model with a free cactus emoji. His plants are thriving. He's harvesting a literal digital cash crop. He's defenitely enjoyed the last laugh on this one.

It is rude, but they have been dealing with it for years even before they professionally became Dan & Phil. Think of the early solo YouNows where the other would feature at the end because of the overwhelming requests for it. And with each joint venture SAP, Radio Show, DAPGs, TAB/TINOF, II (plus AP being a collab channel half the time during the last few years) it is more expected. So I doubt Phil is personally offended by requests for Dan at this point, but this time around he might feel a twinge of something just due to the circumstances or the fact that he can’t comment on it. :/

I for one am enjoying this new era of AP, not as a stand in for anything. But of course I will be overjoyed when we get our first joint content. I wish everyone else (by which I mean fans in other platforms) understood that we probably won’t get that until Dan makes his solo return. If I were Dan I would post a danisnotinteresting vid before a dinof vid that would be more chill and for the core fans rather than a statement to YouTube at large. But I doubt he would.

Yeah, I don't think Phil is surprised that he's getting some many comments asking for Dan. He probably doesn't love that, especially because he's doing the best he can to feed us content and would love if people focused on that now, but dnp put the main focus on their joint branding for years and people got used to that and now they miss it. Not that dnp have to do only what their audience wants, but it was a drastic change in the span of a very short time and people are taken aback by it.
DnP have the same fandom - there's no Phildom or Dandom, there's just the Phandom and that's why Dan can get away with being away for so long and still have an active following imo, because Phil by giving content to his own subscribers is indirectly giving content to Dan's subscribers as well (I'm talking about people involved in the fandom here, not just casual viewers). However, people have questions and want Dan back, but if he's not there to answer those questions or fulfill people's requests, they will turn their questions and desires to Phil because, again, he's the one providing content for the both of them. It's not fair to him, but I don't think that what is happening is surprising in the slightest.

I agree with everyone sayin' that we won't see Dan until he drops a dinof video. I'd love if he made a more chill vid on his side channel but he would never, lbr.

Reading the tea leaves, here's a tweet Dan liked that may hint at his battle with procastination. Which may in turn suggest he's actually working on a concrete video 'right now' that he's procastinating on :)

The longer he's absent, the more mysterious his absence is becoming to me. He must either still be in a bad place mentally (I hope not), is considering retiring (as a rich mofo) or must be caught up in some big project we have no clue of? I wonder if his tweets are ever posted during working hours. And if that can be an indication of anything.

Or he’s just taking a break to focus on himself and decide in what direction he wants to go. It doesn’t have to be a big project, bad mental health or quitting, there’s lots of stuff in between.

While scrolling through Google image search I saw a pretty version of one of my favorite pics and noticed it was attached to a 2012 Huffington Post article.

I think the thing that annoys me isn't when people don't like the content that Phil's putting out and they wish that we had joint/Dan content instead, but when people act as if Phil's videos are just filler content until the Real Stuff comes back (as opposed to Phil reviving the AP channel and making the type of videos that he enjoys, fun and lighthearted and admittedly not that creative, but it doesn't have to be for it to be entertaining).
And I won't lie, with every video, the "cool but where's Dan" response to whatever he posts get more and more annoying.
Anyway, I am kind of excited but mostly intrigued for Phil's video later......what did he do to a cow
