DnP have been pretty quiet other than their posts this morning. I hope we get some posts tonight but am wondering if they are already in Vegas.

Also how do the hotels work with vidcon? Do they have to get their own rooms after the con? It looks like the person that posted the photo mentioned the hotel in the comments so hoping they already checked out

The featured creators are all in one hotel at vidcon and you need credentials to enter (actual barrier with security around the hotel) - it’s obvious which hotel it is so that isn’t news - and vidcon today is “Disneyland day” so Vidcon is still covering creators hotels, usually they can ask for tonight if they want (or negotiate for more days if they are coveted by vidcon like DNP since most creators don’t get paid just the trip covered and a per diem.) I assume they are leaving tomorrow or this afternoon for Vegas.

(Cornelia and Martyn looked dead on their feet when I saw them in the industry/creator lounge yesterday afternoon and that was before the expo hall even was closed down so I hope they have a nap before driving.)

so I really have no point or conclusion to this post, but I was just watching dan's talk at the vidcon night of awesome thing, and decided to look up the date of the london marathon because I am constantly craving facts and was curious where this fell into the timeline of the year lol (was mostly curious how long ago the marathon was because the talk about it on idb seemed pretty fresh in my mind, but it also seemed like long ago enough that dan had some time to find the humour and lesson in it.).

Anyways, the London Marathon happened on April 28th 2019. So, that sated my curiosity of it actually being a couple months. But then I was like hmm isn't that really close to Easter? So I looked that up, and yes, Easter was April 21st 2019. And in "Basically I'm Gay", Dan writes in the email about wanting to tell his family he was gay at certain times, including "last Easter Sunday".

So, what I'm getting at is the Marathon thing and the coming out email to his family happened very close to each other, within a few days probably. For one, I'm thinking what an emotionally difficult week (or so) that would have been for Dan, and I'm proud of him for dealing with two pretty major things at once (obvs the coming out was more major for him, but the marathon thing was obviously a big deal too). Second, I'm wondering which actually came first, the coming out or the marathon dropping out. And third, in the same vein, I'm wondering if one thing sort of helped or pushed the other - like for instance, if he dropped out of the marathon first and went through this fairly emotional thing of telling his family (and friends) about that and receiving the support and also being a bit emotionally drained in general and all that, I'm wondering if that sort of pushed him to just send that email coming out to his family in a way?

I don't know, these aren't well-formed thoughts (I stopped the vidcon video partway to come type this out), but I was just having some thoughts about the timing of these two events being so close together and wanted to share some musings and see if anyone else has opinions on this.

Me and a few of my friends were talking about this on twitter dms actually. The general consensus we ended up reaching is that dropping out of the marathon came first.

My personal opinion is that dropping out of the marathon, and the support received on that, definitely did play a role in helping him come out. (I actually came out to my more distant family via text. After all the support I had received for an earlier accomplishment; I felt that most of them would still support me. I was also too emotionally drained to think about what I was doing before I hit send ^^".) Emotional moments usually help someone along in coming out.

Last night I was wondering why D&P like Vegas enough to go a third time. At first it seems very not them, but once I thought about it, it kinda makes sense. Phil loves playing for prizes, there’s alcohol, buffets, shows and sexy entertainment (though Dan has said he hates the open options at a buffet and actually converted Phil to his side in the space of a min, come on Phil stand your ground! Plus they’ll undoubtedly go to fancy restaurants instead). I’ve only been once as a pre-teen with my parents just as an overnight stop between national parks, so I only got to enjoy a buffet and a walk down the strip. Still of all the places to travel in the world or even the states, that just doesn’t make the list for me. I wouldn’t mind catching Cirque du Soleil sometime when it’s traveling though. They went once didn’t they?

As someone who actually lives in vegas, I could see how it is fun to go every couple of years. There is (in most cases) always something new. In the past two years alone, we've gotten a new arena, one of the casinos just opened a huge esports lounge, way too many new restaurants, stuff like that. Even though I don't expect deppy to leave the radius of the strip and do anything super active, there are a bunch of great hiking trails too!! Vegas is more than gambling and shows lol

Omg you live in Las Vegas?! What's that like? Sorry to be so off topic but I am SO curious about Las Vegas and wanna go so bad; it seems like such a wild wonderland that I can't even imagine people living their casual daily lives there

I live just outside of Vegas but I graduated from UNLV (the university). Once you’re off the strip it’s basically like any other major city, but Vegas is actually getting a lot right now so it’s really nice to live there with the new arena and soon to be new stadiums. What sets Vegas apart though from other big cities I think is how spaced out it really is, the strip is the only part that is really packed in, I think the best perk of living in Vegas is getting the option of going to the strip literally whenever you want, I liked to go sometimes and spend nothing, just go walk around and people watch. I lived less than a mile away from the strip so you can catch a bus to avoid parking fees and just go wild, it was the best when just moving away from home for the first time at 18 lmao

at this point i'm far from surprised. phil did state his preferred platform is twitter (if i'm correct it was in the qna qngay). the phandom will probably have 2 to 3 nights to find this place. we are good, but i doubt we could do it in under a week. literally me too. i wonder if they'll watch a movie.
