This has definitely come up before but when D&P complain that nobody ever taught them how to do basic household tasks like cooking, grocery shopping, and laundry when they were kids….

I’m sorry but y’all DO realize that’s because you were raised as boys right?? That’s not a universal experience. It’s sexism.
I'm having a stress.

I'm in the same boat actually 💀 Really don't know why my parents never took the time to teach me those things

Yeah, while it would be helpful for everyone to be taught these things at school, most people are able to get by in life because they get taught this at home. While I'm not very good at most of this stuff because my parents allowed me to be lazy, unlike Dan I somehow learned that you cook pasta in water just by... existing around the house

same here lol Female from low-income manual-labour parents and still didn't learn anything because studying was more important & parents pressured on that while forgetting that house economics would have been equally important. My brother is smarter and invested time in learning how to cook at a younger age than me - I'd just do the washing up lol

Anyhow: I loved the recent video on the cocktails and the DnP lore. I had to stop watching the one when they do that physical game with the coins because I was not feeling entertained and realised that I was watching "waiting to start laughing" rather than because I was actually enjoying it. Such devotion they inspire!

That was such a fun video. Also, Dan looked so intrigued when Phil started talking about red flags in people, he was listening in so closely

I have really been enjoying their videos lately. Their energy has just been so fun and good and natural-feeling! The shuffleboard video may be my favourite DAPG video of the year so far (the kitchen reveal + the chaotic energy of them standing up + all of Phil's innuendos made for a very entertaining video).

The latest video was a lot of fun too. I've really enjoyed all of the games the board game company has sent them. Particularly loved when Dan said he liked Irish accents and Phil immediately started talking in an Irish accent lol.

Whenever this comes up in a conversation I'm always like you know your parents could just teach you that right. Not saying mine told me about every adult thing like taxes and cooking but it's quite literally their job. You have a limited time at school every week and your parents are probably not gonna teach you maths and history so why give schools even more things to teach. Could be sexism as someone else said but honestly I think some parents just don't care that much and rely on teachers and schools too much when it comes to raising their kid.

But even though it's not the first time they talk about it I feel like Dan gave us more insight into how he feels about his childhood on this one. They really do shape your whole life all the experiences you had during those years. I'm talking about him being resentful of people who went to good schools.

Also those pyjamas. Do you think they actually wear those to bed? Dan's were sooo funny I guess I never expect anyone to have such luxurious pyjamas when you could just wear anything and no one cares.

I think there are multiple topics where the parents think that school should teach this to their kids while the school thinks that the parents should teach it and at the end of the day the kids end up with nobody teaching them about the topic and they have to learn it later when they need it. Sorta similar to the lack of sex ed but in that case there are many parents who don't want school to teach it but then end up not teaching it themselves either or not teaching it well (because if they don't want the school to teach it, there is usually an agency behind it).
On the other hand though, we complain about certain things not being taught at school but would we care at that age? Would we remember that stuff? There are many things I was taught at school but forgot if I ever learned it at all.

And it makes sense that Dan resents people for going to better schools but how many people does he think are out there like "Yeah, my school prepared me well for life." because I don't know any.

Yes! Agree with everything you said. I can barely do math right now and I did my homework and had good grades how many of us would remember anything about taxes and looking for a job if we had been taught about them when we were 14. Now that I think about it I'm pretty sure I was taught about taxes but at that age you honestly couldn't care less about so many things taught at school (speaking for myself at least). Even cooking I know some people in my class would have been like why do we need this shit.

Considering the huge gap in educational privilege btw private and public schools in the smallest of islands that the UK is (England, which he refers to, being even smaller), his complaints makes total sense.

The disparity is awful, and from what he says, his school was a mess. He's still privilege though if bullying is the only thing he experienced (the degradation can be worse).

What rings to me as 'white British boy privilege' is the fact that he says he's jealous of them and complains about this - not having had the same opportunity - rather than remembering that what we should complain about is the disparity, not the wanting to take their place (which keeps the status quo).

But Dan is a white British boy with privilege. I do not totally blame him for that - how could he know differently? -. It's just annoying sometimes when he parallel to this wants to sound all socialist and activist-y.

I think I noticed a lot of edits in that section; I wouldn't be surprised if he was speaking more about the topic (or "yapping" -- and can I say that term is really bothering me? What are they supposed to be doing, modern dance??), he would talk about issues of access and privilege because usually when issues of healthcare come up, for example, he does talk about that. I'm not laying myself on the line to defend his politics, but I think he's less clueless than that edited moment may seem.

Yo! Listen...... (and help please)
Haven't been here since 2018 but coming in with quite a throwback here-
Someone just referenced the "phan directory" on twitter and I was hit by a wave of nostalgia-
Thought: "Haha! I still remember the password! Such a cheeky one as well!" thinking I did remember it. But NO! Putting in "cherry" does not appear to be working anymore... Does anyone know if it's been changed? Or do I just remember it wrong? I mean it's not life or death, but I'd love to take a stroll down memory lane-

I hope you are all well! Much love! <3

The fact that he wrote fanfic makes a lot of sense, I love that was being creative with writing (pls sir do more fiction writing, I want to read all of it). I feel like they've always been supportive of fic, they wouldn't put it in tatinof otherwise, but him showing his own was just very fun.

Loved Phil’s fanfic video, for some reason it didn’t click for me that Mr. Linguistics Lester would have written slash fic as a teen/young adult. I’ve only watched the video once and have been trying to decipher his point about boundaries in RPF (personally I’m very interested in the sociology/psychology of RPF, StrangeÆons has a really good video about that subject!) I’m assuming the line he’s talking about is don’t write RPF smut, which I simultaneously agree with yet have been guilty of :? When I write RPF these days I stay away from smut/establishing romantic/sexual relationships between people who have not explicitly stated that they’re together. I’d love to hear y’all’s take on this (esp. these days with phanfic)

I think my take on RPF (regardless of who it's about) has always been that it is a bit cringe. Like all fic can be cringe and I can laugh about it and enjoy it but with RPF I can't really bring myself to read it. I've never tried a fic where people put these real people into fictional scenarios, such as AU fics. I guess that may be less cringe. But when I dabbled in the past (not with D&P) it was a fic where the author was writing sort of "missing moments" type stuff between two actors and it just felt... weird. Like people are pretending they know how these celebs talk to each other and behave behind closed doors. Or like they're pretending they know how they got together (in case it's a confirmed real couple) and trying to be all artistic with your speculation feels somehow way more cringe than just gossiping with friends about what you think those celebs are like. Does that make any sense?
But then on the other hand there are people who are super against it and act like a morality police when their own behavior can be creepy it's just not about fics. Or they have a holier than thou attitude for simply not caring about celebs. But that could be a whole topic on its own.

I don't shame people for writing fics like that because I don't think it's inherently harmful but I don't think anyone is able to objectively say where the line of weird/creepy or no is, so people will reassure each other that their stories aren't creepy even if maybe some are. And I feel like Phil was trying to be nice and not shame people but that doesn't mean he's encouraging people to write about him. And I've seen a bunch of fans be re-invigorated by this video and say they don't have to feel ashamed for things they wrote. And I'm like... you probably did write something creepy, let's not pretend you didn't  People write some pretty weird stuff publicly on twitter or in youtube comments so no way the fics are less than that.

I do wish Phil would have expanded a bit more on what the line that shouldn't be crossed is. I mean it doesn't really affect me because I haven't read phan fics since like 2012 and even then could probably count them on one hand, but I feel like for those who do read and write it, it would be helpful to know exactly what his boundaries are. He says everyone knows what that line is, but if the line is smut then I'd say everyone certainly does NOT know what that line is lol

Yeah, that's why I feel like he was being too nice by not naming any specifics as to not hurt anyone's feelings or make anyone upset or feel bad. Because people most certainly don't know what the lines are and will just lie to themselves about what they think it's okay.
But I also understand that it would be kinda weird for Phil to straight up name what is and isn't okay for him and it might be different for Dan, who is also involved in those fics.

WAD IS COMING TO YOUTUBE
I'm impressed and very happy for him that this got managed so soon after the final recording and watch party premiere, since he seemed very uncertain about how to distribute it further at the time.

At 6:05 in the new Sims video—"Pie charts are camp" is one of the most Dan things Dan has ever said.

I haven't played Sims 4 in a very long time, but I swear it gets more and more glitchy every episode. "Sims are wacky people" might be able to barely justify Dil having a house party at a crime scene last episode, but there was a Sim in this one who was straight up T-Posing.
