Bringing this over to the next page, as I saw the post above with no context (though of course I knew who Steve must be!) Yay video! Yay (maybe?) new merch. How did Phil get so many cakes out of Dan’s birthday? It’s only been 4 days and they’re in lockdown... Eww fudge, I would be feeling ill too.

Tripping over a wheelie bin indeed, I can relate, last year I upset my back by catching a heavy cooking pot that I'd knocked off the counter and a week later tripped over the leg of my music stand. At least there's been cake and fudge, do love some good buttery fudge. At school they told us the male birds have the colourful plumage so a brown blackbird is female, and also a brown and white pigeon, but I'm sure Steve's just glad for a friendly Phil providing food. Kinda exciting that he can get the ball rolling again on merch.

Perhaps multiple people sent Dan cakes, so they had a few? Or maybe they did some sort of socially distanced meetup outside and got a(nother) cake that way, who knows. Guessing one of his other gifts was fudge, which Phil nicked.

Very excited for the merch! Sounds like it'll be another at-home photoshoot, aww. And it sounds like he might have been working on some other things as well, from his wording, as well as a new video coming up...? Exciting! It's crazy how much a message from him cheered me up.

Also, for anyone who didn't see, VidCon has announced an online event for this year in lieu of their usual conventions. It's free to register, and from what I can see it's a weeks (months?) long event with different speakers/panels etc each week. The first two weeks of creators and events have been announced - no D and/or P as yet, but they'll be making new announcements each week for what's coming up. There'll also be meet and greets (presumably Zoom or similar?), which will be first come first served (which I'm sure won't at *all* be a bloodbath). Might not end up involving D&P at all, but they've been pretty consistent with going to Vidcon over the years and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Phil "attends".

I'm definitely interested in this online Vidcon thing. Even if it's another endless parade of TikTok youths 'dancing' and shit I can just mute it. I almost feel like Phil is pretty save bet to show up at some point but I hope Dan does to. I'm already lowering expectations though.

While this is indeed the case with many types of birds (like blackbirds and ducks) iirc in the case of feral pigeons it has nothing to with the sex of the bird. Feral Pigeons are just weird descendants of Rock Pigeons mixed with invading species which resulted in a bit of a variety in color due to different types of melanin. Many of them still look like exactly like Rock Pigeons (pretty dark grey with purple and green shiny bits on their necks) but if their ancestors got down with some exotic birds, they can range from a more dull grey, grey with white spots, white (like a dove but kinda ugly) and brown/red like Steve.

I hope I got this right lol, it's something I learned from my grandma when I was a child. Bet she didn't think I would ever use her knowledge on a forum about two British gay nerds. Bird enthusiasts are welcome to correct me if I'm wrong.

What does everyone think about Phil on Twitch? Obviously it's a better platform overall than YouNow, but to grow on Twitch, you need to stream more than once a week for more than 45 minutes. Do you think Phil is looking to extend his audience base or is he happy with what he currently has?

I know I will watch him, but am I willing to subscribe or give my twitch sub for 45 minutes a week when there are other creators/streamers providing significantly more content? And will he be "just chatting" or will he play games the entire time. I guess we will have to find out.

I don't think he'll be looking to grow too much and there will always be fans out there who will follow and tune in and subscribe even if he only streams once a week, as they'll want whatever extras you get as a subscriber e.g. highlighted comments etc.

I’ve been thinking about it a lot! I wondered how it’d work too, as I’m used to watching streamers who stream for a couple of hours, at least, a few times a week (often D&P adjacent - PJ, Dean, cyarin etc) - but if Phil did want to do it he might not particularly care about whether it was the ‘usual’ thing that Twitch streamers do, even if 30-40 minutes once a week is quite unusual on there. (Ooooor, he might want to do longer sessions, but I don’t know how likely that is and I wouldn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up lol.)

Many streamers will do a ‘just chatting’ bit at the beginning and then start gaming later (or vice versa), so he might decide to do something like that, similar to his old live shows, or it might just be for gaming (so he doesn’t have to talk about things outside of occasional comments while gaming). Maybe it’s a way to connect with his audience and share something he’s enthusiastic about (especially as he no longer has the gaming channel) without having to just sit and talk about himself, which he seems increasingly un-jazzed about doing?

Re subscriptions, I sort of view it similarly to the YouTube ones, in that the benefits are fairly minimal and the streams are always available for free anyway, so if people didn’t want to subscribe to both (or either), then they wouldn’t have to.

I really hope it happens, though, whatever it looks like!!

Playing games is his best bet, I think, to fill that watch time. And looking at the chat once in a while. Or he could play games with the audience too, like jacksfilms does. But that requires planning. A.. lot.. of.. planning.

Or he could do his usual chatty style it doesn't matter, everyone would tune in regardless, but this would be a really good opportunity to dabble on the game streaming realm. I hope he tries at least.

I'm inclined to think his Twitch streams will be to other gamer streams as the gaming channel itself was to other gaming channels - which is, not the same at all. Dan and Phil always knew what we were about... we wanted to watch them way more than the games they played. So I think if he does Twitch he's not gonna consider himself having to follow the trends other streamers set.

My hopes might be far too high, but perhaps Twitch might finally bring about that thing we've always wanted from Phil: him playing games he actually really loves. Maybe we'll even get a bit of cursing. And some color commentary... by which I mean shit like "Dan and I argue about whether this is green or yellow." Heh.

I need projects to keep my mind from withering away into a pile of hopeless dust, and my latest one has been to transcribe the over 1000 vyou answers Dan and Phil gave between 2010 and 2012. My fear of things disappearing forever and wanting text backups is strong.

Would anyone want me to start posting some of them here? They were done in chunks (like they'd answer 10-15 at a time) so I was thinking I might post one day's worth of answers from Dan or Phil every day or so here, if that'd be interesting to anyone.

Are you a youtube partner yet?
Answer: “I’ve been a youtuber partner for like a year and a half, where’ve you been? Why do you think I have a big banner across the front of my page? Silly moo.

Why study law?
Answer: “I chose to study law because when you’re seventeen and you’re forced to fill out your UCAS form and decide everything you want to do for the rest of your life, I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to do. Uh… there were a million things that I was interested in, so I didn’t want to do some strange specific degree so, you know, I was told hey just do one of those sort of general academically impressive degrees that will just show that you’re smart at the end of it. So I thought - you know, what are those, that’s like. English literature and law and stuff. So I thought - hey, law. If in four and a half years all my dreams are dead and I have no life, I could just become a lawyer! So yes. I chose law and now I am glad I chose law because it is a academic and impressive degree that you have to be smart to get a good mark in. So even if I don’t want to be a lawyer, which I don’t, it will show that I’m clever and stuff.

Why don’t you grow facial hair?
Answer: “Because I’d look stupid, that’s why. The reason it’s never visible is because I just look like a scruffy tramp, not some sexy Justin Timberlake person. So… yeah maybe in like four years when I don’t look like a twelve year old.”

Why did you cut your square hair off?
Answer: “Because it looked ridiculous, that’s why! I mean I know there’s some of you out there that are like the Olly Sikes fans and alternative subscribers, but if you saw me in person you’d know it was ridiculous and everybody I knew knew how bad it looked and if I didn’t get it cut then, when was I going to get it cut? It was a severe problem that I needed to deal with so I’m sorry if I offended you.”

Who do you fanboy over?
Answer: “Oh, God, the first time that I met Bryony - paperlillies - I had a massive fangirl. She said that the first time I met her I wasn’t actually that bad but inside I was like [hyperventilating] oh my god it’s paperlillies because, you know, she was the first person I ever subscribed to and I watched her videos for like three years. So when I was her I was like [singing] oh my god- um, same thing happened with Molly, mememolly, except I was just intimidated by her. Because she was so attractive and just cool and I was like… I’m never gonna go up there and introduce myself to her. So yeah - female youtubers. [laughs]”

Which starter Pokemon did you choose from Pokemon White?
Answer: Snivy, the grass snake. (Plus one minute of rambling about the other ones he didn’t like.)

What’s your favourite colour?
Answer: “Way to ask like, the most boring question of all time, but uh. I don’t really have one solid favorite color. I like gold quite a lot and I like white and I like any sort of browny beige-y earthy colors. Yeah, so I guess my favorite color would be some sort of goldy whitey earthy hybrid. I like purple as well. Purple’s a good color.”

What underwear are you wearing?
Answer: “They could have been a more interesting pair. I just took them off to show you now. They are these red Christmassy Topman pants, size small. Yes, they are… colorful and interesting and comfortable and inappropriate for this season.”

What kind of music are you into?
Answer: “I like all music, really. I’d say I’m somebody that has a really, really diverse taste in music. And I’m not just one of those people that’s like, I like everything, I’m really cool. I don’t necessarily have lots of all music but I have a wide palette - I have everything from like, classical albums to heavy metal [? name of group I think] to Britney Spears collection to Jay-Z and Kanye West. Literally everything. So I may not have the biggest or the coolest music collection in the world but I like all music, you know.”

What do you use to edit your videos?
Answer: “I use Sony Vegas to edit my videos. And it is absolutely horrendous, I do not recommend it. I don’t really know how to use it very well, I can only do basic things so I feel very creatively limited with what I can do in my videos. I’d like to learn to use Adobe Premiere or Final Cut seeing as those are the in things, but if you’re just somebody that’s thinking of making videos then use Windows Movie Maker or I-Movie because the rest are very serious.”

I’m not sure if anyone’ll be able to help, but I’m trying to track down a clip from the radio show/that era - I don’t know/remember the context, but D&P were describing each other for something, like for example Phil described Dan as funny ... I had it bookmarked as a tweet but it’s been deleted, and I’ve tried searching vid clips on YouTube and text searches on here/Google and I can’t find it. Does anyone remember anything like that?
