Liquorice is the food of monsters and I will not accept a different opinion, I have spoken.

Hmmm very interesting about the video, my clown ass immediately thought it involved vloggy bits and I was almost ready to wear my clown makeup and pointy shoes before I remembered the universe is cruel. I'm just happy for any content tbh, miss his face so much.
Will probably never be over the BONCAS and the beauty of Phil Lester.

OMG I am finally home from vacation and caught up on work and so I can join the conversation. I've been following for the last 10 days and had so much to say but you know how life goes, after 10 days pass, things become irrelevant.

SO things that are slightly relevant. I legit had no idea Liquorice came in more than just two flavors? Like my mind is blown??? I can't eat it anymore (at least in the US bc it has gluten in it RIP). But I...I need a moment.

Thing 2: a clip from DNP crafts came up on my dash and I just wanted to say that I am like...Phil is so underrated. Like I just think Phil is so brilliant and funny and creative and I LOVE his content. He's kept me going for months I swear. Obvs I am new to phandom and was never around for joint content or Dan content (I mean I am still one thirsty girl for that shit) so like, my oppinion is completely diff perspective. Anyway. I love the Dan convo etc but like, I just want some Philly love like, all the time.

Is it rude for me to ask ppl for their fav Phil moments? Or what they like best, admire, think he's brilliant at? As a new girl here, I'd love to know what y'all have really loved or what your fav shit was in the past.

I didn't word any of that well because only 20% of my brain is going into those thoughts. Literally the rest of me is staring out a window while typing, thinking about liquorice.

I always say old school Phil is the best Phil--and DAPC is certainly old school Phil.

Have you gone back through all his old videos?

Here's one of my favorites that springs to mind (featuring a ginger Phil):

I haven't! A while ago I was working my way through all of his videos backward (new to old) but for some reason I stopped -- probably something in life interferred. I can't remember when I stopped? But I have not watched many of his old, old videos. I'm excited to watch these! Thank you.

My favorite type of Phil content is when he's trying something new and you can see his thought process. like in the making a cake without a recipe video, you see exactly how he solves a problem (including just. standing on the stove. how is he alive) with his weird brain. love that.

RE: the not straight video, i had repressed how uncomfortable he banana made me, wow. had to fast forward through that.

Fave Phil moments include - in ‘Lost at the Mall’ the bit in the thumbnail lying on the floor and the whole bit about that, first time I realised how sharp this cuddly cutie really is. Really got that when they swapped T-shirts and did impressions of each other in pinof 7 or 8 with Phil recreating one of Dan’s existential crises. Probably any moment in the Cards Against Humanity video cos the cheekiness was rampant and he looked So Good in that ensemble (any time he’s worn not just black, but dark grey or blue, uhf). The whole ‘ladydoor’ thing still makes me laugh, the original and the continuing attempt at less daft euphemisms that just got worse each time. Him listening to the neighbours arguing in the hallway with his ear pressed to a cup against the door. Also the ongoing vase joke. Adorable animal Disney Prince moments. Him taking his gameshow host aspirations all the way on the charity livestream, sparkly jacket and everything. And when he ‘forgot’ December meant Gamingmas in that livestream. I’ve always loved a cute, cheeky git

I love Phil’s liveshows. Watching him try to explain things is always fun and the gaming liveshows especially were great. I love some of the old radio content too- his cow days story is one of my favorites.

OMG amen to all of this. Him standing on the stove then going "what am I doing" I live for that. Also I literally covered my eyes at the banana I wanted to die at that part I can barely think about it without cringing.

ok i edited this bc I am so lazy but other than the CAD moment (which i loved so much I devoted an entire chapter of my canon-compliant long fic to it) I am unfamiliar with all of this! Gosh there's so much I don't know (or maybe do and just don't remember?)

literally no idea what this reference is to (I have barely dipped a toe in the radio show waters) but I'm already in love.

I also realized that I know SO little about 2018-early 2019 bc I couldn't watch the Rize shows (there was too much visually happening on screen and my brain was not recovered enough for MONTHS to be able to track that). I probably should watch some of those some day.

I really love any video where he talks about when he was a kid, why I was a weird kid, things I thought were true, chat logs, reacting to his baby videos. I like hearing about all the weird things that seem to happen to him like him reading the creepiest email he was ever sent. His why I can't go back to the Gym video was an emotional rollercoaster I loved. I strangely love his psychic videos even though I normally hate anything like that. For gaming I really loved his Shelter series both solo and with Dan, the random games phil played as a kid where Dan has no idea what's happening, I can't do a list of favourite Phil moments without mentioning the mark of oxin it has so many great moments in those videos.

I strongly agree that Phil is super underrated. I think the thing that stands out to me the most about him is the fact that he is able to change his affect so completely. Like, his vibe in his current videos is just completely different to how he used to be in the early days. It makes me wonder how deliberate this is. I think it's probably a combination of factors including feeling less pressure to be cool or mysterious, trying to appeal to a wider audience, growing comfortable in his Phil persona, his actual personality changing. But again, it's videos like DNP Crafts where he easily conjures up so much of the weirdness of his early videos where I realize how much power he has as a performer. He's kind of a chameleon in that way, and it makes it apparent to me how little we truly know about him as a person outside of the version he presents on the internet.

I believe all these selves are true. I don't think he's being inauthentic. But I get the impression that Dan is (or at least was for awhile) really anxious for people to understand him completely without them actually knowing everything about him, while Phil is much more content to be an enigma.

This is totally just speculation and wild conclusions, but anyway I love Phil and I think he's a really interesting person

hi first post on here, i've been a phannie for way too long (circa 2010 baby). I'm home from college because of miss covid, and reverting back to my high school self. not that yall need a recap of my life, but i have been stalking this forum sice like march just replying in my head so i feel like i need to do some sort of introduction.
anyways,
this might just be me thinking about the Emojis. but could this maybe be some sort of moving/house tour video/vlog? totally awful evidence, just a fun little theory.
"slow edit due to a load of random phone clips so it could be out at any point later this week depending how square I want my eyes to be. My hints are that it contains a lot of drama and time pressure…!"
random phone clips... that's the one that got me. drama and time pressure a little less convincing, but moving is stressful and can have time restraints? yeah, not much holding up there
whatever it is I'm loving Phil content. seeing him now compared to his videos a few years ago makes my heart <3 so full.

This was my first thought too but I don't want to hype myself up when it's probably a spon for an app or something. I tend to go from one extreme to another for no reason most of the time.

I've seen a lot of people theorise the same (sometimes in jest, sometimes not), but I think a day-in-the-life or a moving vlog would be quite difficult (though, not impossible) to do while Dan is so dedicated to not publicly existing... unless it was something v. specific like Phil packing only his own items in his own space, or something. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE something like this, but like others have said, I think it's more likely to be some sort of game or challenge based on what he said...

Although if Dan decided now was the time to break his policy I wouldn't be mad

ETA: I did rewatch Dan's 1st London apartment tour video the other day and Phil wasn't in it (he was away at the time I believe), so you never know I guess.

He looks so good! And I have no guesses for his new video but I’m hoping it’s outdoors or at least somewhere outside of his little filming square. Regardless I’m looking forward to it!

I'm going to have to put this story up there in my list of pics of Phil that give off some of the strongest Dad Vibes™, that instagram post from japan with the big robot being in the number one spot.

Also hi I guess, I've been lurking and this is my first post. Decided I needed to actually interact w people and have a place to share my phandom thoughts that I don't have anyone to talk to about. :wavingflag:

I also need to just put it out there and put my hope to bed now that it's been a month that dan would break his instagram story silence to talk about Arca's new album but alas nothing :/

Little more dan related music ramble that I'm not sure many people will actually be interested in reading:
I do wonder if some of why he didn't post it is because of the new way some songs show up on insta stories from spotify with the videos in the background? Cause personally I Don't Like it and I know dan is picky about that sort of aesthetic thing. I'm sure he's listened to it and probably likes it cause it's got so many of his faves (including Arca herself but also Björk, Rosalía and SOPHIE) and it seems like an album he would really like.

Also it was nice to know from his tweet reply that he had been listening to SAWAYAMA (love good, strong, queer music) and while I think is dramaticness could maybe have come off to people as a bit insensitive or overly negative since the world is in the state it's in right now, I wonder if he was referencing/criticizing how her citizenship status was used to disqualify her. And while FKA Twigs was nominated once before, it would also be a meaningful nomination for her being a british WOC with family from Jamaica. I don't think that's why she wasn't nominated (although personally I thing MAGDALENE is a stronger album than how i'm feeling now) it is interesting. Really I think dan will just stan twigs until he dies. No idea, just thoughts

While I definitely have my own tastes in music, I tend to let music discussion wash over me--those bits of his liveshows were when I could just listen to Dan's voice and not worry about what he was saying. It's great that it's been a way for people to engage with him--even if, as always with Dan, a lot of people engage negatively. :sideeye:

I wonder, do (did) other people look to Dan for music opinions/recommendations?

I don't usually look to anyone for music recommendations, but I am pleased for him introducing me to Years & Years when he called one of their songs a 'bop' a couple of years ago

I discovered Perfume Genius, Sophie, Sawayama (how good is Chosen Family? Very strong #phanvibes there) and Tash Sultana thanks to Dan - although in Tash’s case, I only found her out because she appeared in Dan’s recent played artists section on his Spotify account.. when he still had it public. I mourn the loss of it and I also mourn Dan’s recs in general because even though I didn’t always agree with his opinions, it was a good way of finding out new music.

I properly joined the phandom early last year and at the same time, started to listen to Dan's interactive introverts playlist obsessively as I was trying to broaden my musical horizons a bit. (I went to the show, but didn't listen to the playlist right away.) I discovered quite a lot of new music through that playlist; I don't have the same musical tastes as a lot of phannies and so some of the bands/artists I'd never heard. I sometimes have a weird kind of ... embarrassment? Or something? About listening to artists just because Dan likes them, but I have found *some* things I like (I listened to the Vampire Weekend album in 2019 after a song of theirs was in one of Dan's road trip instastories and I LOOOOVED it) and I very much miss his input, recs, thoughts etc. Our tastes don't always overlap - some of the stuff he loves has left me cold - but he's clearly very knowledgeable about the current scene in a way I, an old and uncool person, am not.

I don't think his lack of music posts is about the format of insta stories, though; he seems to have made a decision to not share *anything* on instagram this year, which I assume would include music, especially as he locked his spotify as well. I wonder if he'll retire the albums-of-the-year post too? Hopefully not.

I’ve discovered a few songs through them both whether radio, liveshow or other mentions, though when I purposely listened to the Tatinof playlist a while ago I was mostly just bored. I’ve always loved All Star (unironically ofc) so that always amused me. I could probably name the entire handful of songs I’ve discovered through them and really liked (black parade, my songs know what you did in the dark, llama song, okay I forget the rest), but I also haven’t listened to many overall.
