The dan and phil electrostim plot twist no one needed
edit: this is on the top of the page I'm so sorry
I hate my mind for going "this is how Phil would announce his and Dan's wedding" as soon as I saw the news. Like, a chill announcement during a stream and then a tweet with just a smiling emoji? Yeah, that would be so Phil.fruitcriminals wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 10:06 am Don't know if anyone saw the news re Jenna and Julien getting engaged and it made me think, Julien and Phil really are the influencer mvp's letting us know little things about the other one, even when they're on a hiatus.
I am assuming that one video he wants dan in has to be the questions he's never answered one and honestly if they do answer the one question...woah. Forget them...are WE ready for that?![]()
I have to say though, if Phil want's to answer the 'tell us about your current dating life' and tell us that he's been unable to date for a decade because he's got a gay stalker who won't leave him alone and insists on living in his house everywhere he goes, I would, for one, very much enjoy the lol.
Well that's kind of where my mind went too, just because the only video Phil's hinted at doing is the questions one and Dan saying specifically 'one more video' and 'really don't like what he is suggesting', all of that combined is why I wondered if it would be about their relationship as that's the only juicy thing they could both answer. Although there were other questions that would be interesting for them both to answer re being closeted or their past together but that isn't particularly 'juicy'. Depends on their idea of juice I guess.glitterintheair wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 11:01 am
I am not sure about Dan being in the questions video, tho. Like, Phil asked for questions about him, so what would Dan do, answer on his behalf (wait, now that I think about it, that would be a funny video)? The only way I could see it being a joint video is if there's a few joint questions thrown in there, but in that case I am wondering what kind of questions they would answer because I can't think of anything.
See, I'd laugh if that was the case because Phil said that particular ice cream shop is closed in the previous questions vid, so them talking about their relationship in any way or form now would be a contradiction I'd personally be happy about, but I don't know how likely it will be. But what do I know, they're famous for saying a thing and then doing the exact opposite.fruitcriminals wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 11:41 am

They are so full of contradictions that it is pretty on brand of them. Dan who in one breath berates anyone talking about sex and then shouts c*ck on a live show. But just maybe it's something he'd rather not do so he'll do it and just pose it as him blaming Phil/a mariokart bet much like he blamed the audience for the madlibs despite the stories being incredibly sexual no matter what words people sent in and the bet for having to wear the frog outfit which for someone who wears a lot of black (that we see) can't have been that uncomfortable as he put it on his insta story for millions to look atglitterintheair wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 12:04 pm See, I'd laugh if that was the case because Phil said that particular ice cream shop is closed in the previous questions vid, so them talking about their relationship in any way or form now would be a contradiction I'd personally be happy about, but I don't know how likely it will be. Maybe because it's easy and quick to film? But he could've come up with a different type of video, for example I am actually surprised he hasn't jumped on the "Reading your assumption about me" trend yet.
Quoting myself here because I'm so confused about the bridge/ramp thing. What was that?kavat wrote: Fri Mar 26, 2021 11:23 am
They really have a talent for mentioning things in passing that just leads to more questions. Why would you take out the bins at 2am? Why do you have a metal ball on your balcony??

The idea of an apartment tour of the old place cracks me up since we know half of the old place is surely now being lived in by someone else... I'm just imagining those that lag behind the common observations being like, wait, where's the moon room? Where' s Dan's piano corner with the bookshelf and his computer?fruitcriminals wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 11:41 amWell that's kind of where my mind went too, just because the only video Phil's hinted at doing is the questions one and Dan saying specifically 'one more video' and 'really don't like what he is suggesting', all of that combined is why I wondered if it would be about their relationship as that's the only juicy thing they could both answer. For reference this is what they said:
Phil: I'm gonna force Dan to pop up on my channel as well, so you'll see the video
Dan: Phil has um..convinced me, somehow...idk did i lose a bet [crosstalk re mariokart] to do one more video on his youtube channel and I really don't like what he is suggesting um so i guess look forward to that at some point....I'm scared
TBH if they just do a moving vlog, apartment tour of the old place or anything else we'd enjoy it probably and it wouldn't be scary... It was just the way it seemed like it was something he didn't particularly want to do that made me think that.
I also cannot wrap my mind around that, unless it's some kind of small step up within a room (example from google)? But even then it doesn't seem like it would be big enough for a whole damn bridge?kavat wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 1:53 pmQuoting myself here because I'm so confused about the bridge/ramp thing. I've been relistening to that bit as well and truly... it makes no sense. Here's the quote if anyone wants to decipher:alittledizzy wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 2:16 pmI also cannot wrap my mind around that, unless it's some kind of small step up within a room (example from google)? Like- what? Like at the start of this description, I'm picturing a tiny koi pond or body of water or maybe even like..... a glass floor. But then suddenly stairs and/or a ramp is involved? Ok, so we're going up! But like - why can't stairs or a ramp have handles? What makes a bridge's handles any different than stair handles?Phil was like "I want a little, um, bridge... that goes over something to this... thing." And then- But the thing is it was on the same level. No, it was going up a hill! So, imagine a ramp, guys, or stairs. Imagine anything that you need stairs or a ramp for. And Phil was like, "Oh no, can we give it some little handles, so it's a bridge?" And the architect just looked at Phil and was like, "A bridge can't go up. Where is it a bridge to?"

If anyone had any doubt that I would find this exciting, well. Think more.alittledizzy wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 5:00 pm So on a reddit sub I use for keeping up with a family I despise but am also mildly obsessed with (DuggarsSnark) made this post yesterday on an upcoming book from one of the daughters. It was super detailed and talked about the marketing plan... in the comments the op there said the website (Edelweiss) the info was on and I immediately went and made an account (as an individual, no business associations, so this is all above board) and yup... Dan's info was totally there!
Key selling points:
- With over six million subscribers to his YouTube channel and eight million Twitter followers, everything Dan posts receives enormous attention from a sustained and ever-growing fanbase.
- Howell’s The Amazing Book Is Not on Fire, co-written with best friend Phil Lester, was an instant #1 New York Times bestseller as was the follow-up, Dan and Phil Go Outside. Those books, published by PRH kids’ division, established the readership. But that readership is older now, as is Dan, and this book is perfect for those fans, and beyond.
- Anxiety is the #1 mental health issue in America, intensified by the current pandemic and the fears it brings. This book offers comfort, hope, and practical advice, specifically geared to a Gen Z audience. May is Mental Health Awareness month, a time when Dan has historically spoken about his struggles, providing even further opportunity for well-timed promotion.

Apparently the first print run is 100k, which seems normal for a personality-based book. I did some comparing and the Try Guys had a 75k first run for theirs, Hannah Hart had 125k for Buffering. Here's the pdf for anyone that wants to see the whole deal.
The thought of Phil getting paid and doing an actual hashtag spon for Dan's book is hilarious. Please, I would like to see it.liola wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 5:21 pm
Which makes me think of hilarious videos of Phil trying to promote dan's book in his own style.
Also.. what does Jacket Blowup even mean??

My first thought was Dan cross-marketing with John Green, whose "Anthropocene Reviewed" is coming out the same day. I'm not sure how that would work but certainly the personal connection is there.liola wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 5:21 pm
I find even more interesting in the Marketing plan the point about Influencer Campaign. At first i thought they meant a campaign made by Dan, but then they make a point of specifying the promotion across the author's platform, so I'm wondering if they mean that the book will be sent out to influencers and they will promote it across their own platforms. Which is something that has happened before, but with this kind of book, and how separated Dan and Phil have made themselves from the general youtubers over the years, it would be interesting to see which influencer will be chosen to promote a book to their own fans.
Oh i didn't mean isolated as in not relevant or important, more like.. they never really wanted to mesh with other youtubers even back in the day, and they were always were peculiar about who they associated themselves with.lefthandedism wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 6:34 pmMy first thought was Dan cross-marketing with John Green, whose "Anthropocene Reviewed" is coming out the same day. So who might do it, who has a big enough audience these days? I'm not convinced that Dan is too isolated to make it work. We know Tyler is still a fan. And what about Jessica Kellgren-Fozzard? It would be very relevant to her channel, and Dan "mentored" her last year.

I don’t think they’ve mentioned working with a decorator specifically—think they will, or is no one up to the task to match their particular tastes?

I think an influencer campaign would be more focused on the demographic of the book itself - Kati Morton, Kat Napiorkowska, even someone like Tomska that's posted videos about depression and mental health before. People who make sense promoting the book because they've also got content around the topic. (I know there are loads more but I'm drawing a blank.)fruitcriminals wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 10:22 pm I love that the cross channel marketing is ...literally being on phil's stereo show and youtube channel.
But I guess, their only real 'friendly' youtube friends are PJ and Louise in the UK and both PJ and Louise have either bought a house recently or redecorated. Neither dan nor Phil even like most of their instagram photos let alone leave a comment so I doubt they would feel obliged to do more than like a tweet from him. They might well just phone them up instead, or like them from a finsta account. But other creators do that too AND interact with their friends and promote them on main like Pews and Jack and Ken and Dave, the way they supported Corpse Husband and were genuinely proud of him when he started making more mainstream music etc. I can't imagine Phil for example sharing someone else's instagram story on his own just saying 'love this' and they've only been doing more insta to promote the Stereo. Your average office worker instagram stories more than them. And Dan didn't even like Zoella's baby video which I found kinda wild. Everyone liked that.
With Dan asking Tyler for design advice, I'm not sure they would have a decorator. But much like the comment about not getting a piano because of the price, like...lads you rented two flats in zone 1. That's nearly 7 grand a month just for rent. You can afford this piano.
lmao I have to admit I've never felt more solidly millennial than when I instantly recognize a 20+ year old reference - and I looked it up, it's literally that old, that episode of The Simpsons aired in 1998.fruitcriminals wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 11:17 pm Phil's killed me with that boomer karen tweet. I am deceased![]()
I had been meaning to watch this thanks for linking it lmao. I also really like the cozy cabin vibes but like... very expensive and in a city. I really enjoy some good color in spaces (sorry, Dan)Megancita75 wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 7:34 pmPhantasy wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 7:25 pm Anyone else catch Troye’s Architectural Digest tour of his (totally awesome) new place and think... damn, boys, hope you hire a decorator!

OMG I saw that yesterday and LOVED his place. I don’t tend to like many of the places I’ve seen profiled on that channel but the smallish scale and warmth and colors in his house was very charming. Probably still extremely expensive but not off-putting or showy, at least to me.
And yeah, while I was watching it I thought of DnP being on that channel, but all I can think is them just walking around being like “here is a white wall and another white wall and this tree I hot-glued together and here is where we really wanted a bridge and a tree in the center of the house. But anyway, want to see our cereal cabinet?“
Also, thanks dizzy for posting that book info. The amount of obligations it entails seems overwhelming to me!
Troye: Not a lot of people know this about me but I am very, very gay. And so just in case people don't know that, I litter gay, homoerotic books all around the house.
When he was taking about unrealized projects, he mentioned a sci fi show. I hope with every fiber it happens one day. As a huge fan of early wierd Phil that possibility excites me most of all. His early narrative creepy films are all brimming with talent.Megancita75 wrote: Thu Apr 15, 2021 4:18 pm As for Phil, maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't know that I'd want to see him as the host of a game show. For some reason (even though it doesn't benefit me as a fan), I'd like to see him do non-camera work right now more that on-camera work. Writing, collaborating in some way with other people, maybe doing an animation of some sort. I think I want to see him do something that's all about his creativity being the product, and not his on-camera personality.
