O_O!!
How hot does he look?

Okay, contentious question/idea:

what do you think about Dan's new 'freedom'?
We love them and they are 'husbands', but you know, now anyone knows that he is gay, now he gets to experience life not just as a famous influencer, and as an openly-gay one for the first time in his life. Isn't it like... reborn again? People will now feel free to flirt with him and he can reject them and all that, but doesn't it make easier to be "flirted to"? To thus experience once again that attention he couldn't have received during this 10 years of trying to hide his sexuality?

It's like the little world he created with Phil was necessary to hide too AND Covid made it last even more, while now there's an opening in it.
And he is buying a house with someone he lived a really tight social bubble with. Now in this new life, simply because he's an attractive, famous gay man, people will more easily flirt and try to approach him and perhaps, because of this freedom, he will build meaningful relationships in a way that was difficult to before because he could never be completely sincere with whoever he spoke to.

I remember that Dan said in the Attitude interview that his plan for 2020 was to have "hot boy summer" now that he was out, but covid interrupted. I think he 100% will be enjoying/milking getting flirty and otherwise just *open* attention from the queer community. I mean, please refer back to dan's fireside lace robe picture for Exhibit A on how much he wants to be a Queer Thot.

Abigail Thorn said that she struggled with people saying she couldn't make jokes about trans people before she came out publicly...she wanted to shout "I AM ONE OF YOU". I think Gaymingmas and 20GayTeen really was the year that Dan (and Phil) were both at that point - they so desperately wanted to be able to be perceived as part of the community/be able to lust and make jokes as part of the community - but they weren't quite there yet for coming out.

Oh! I wanted to add that, at least back in my day (she says, an ancient 34 year old), there was a concept of how old you were in "gay years". You sort of start from 0 from when you came out. So my friend who was 35 when he came out who was dating a 25 year old who'd been out for 5 years... his (younger) boyfriend was actually older in gay years.

I've seen a lot of gays go through the sleeping around/hot mess/thot stage right after they come out, it's like a second adolescence.

I wish masks would have been part of this experience. Tests aren’t that effective and dan made it a point to talk about how careful he was on different occasions. I know this will be unpopular but I’m disappointed.

It seems like they were following standard TV production protocol for the UK right now. testing 3 days before, testing on site, temp monitoring, and then face visors and masks for everyone who isn't on stage, social distancing for all crew to talent, and face visors for all talent when they're off stage. That's how we've been doing it on our broadcast set to comply with health regs, and that's how drag race UK and any other london productions are going right now.

From the perspective of someone who works in broadcast audio, I am REALLY glad they were not masked because the audio would've been a hot mess.

I agree and I actually wish we had one more week of Stereo shows just to hear him talk about it. I'd feel better to hear that it was at least a reluctant decision he made or that he was wearing a mask except for the pictures/panel. I really just don't love seeing anyone out w/o a mask.

Wasn't the first (maskless, faces close together) selfie with a producer or someone? Not anyone who was on stage?

I get them not wearing masks on camera and there was some kind of attempt at social distancing which then seemed pointless because of the group photo they took.

I had the exact same thought. I'm sure Dan considered it pretty carefully especially since I imagine something like that would make Phil a bit anxious. Munroe posted a picture on her insta story earlier wearing the same outfit she was wearing on stage in what looked like some sort of green room and she was wearing a face shield thing.

Yeah, it was the (multiple) maskless photos that was jarring. It's common to see maskless, socially-distanced speakers, and it makes sense. But random people hugging maskless not so much.

Even though they are very much chill and introverted people, I wish so much for them to be able to go out to a gay club and just have a fun and wild time, even just the once, especially Dan since he didn't get any of that during his Uni year(s) like Phil did (a bit).
Like Dan going to London pride (I would love love Phil to be able to and feel up to going to a pride!!) there's those queer experiences that you look on and dream of from the closet, and even if you can't get there until you're older I think it's an amazing and freeing feeling to finally be able to do all of those things you wished you could for years, even if just the once.
And yes, queer thot years, I feel like Dan's got cut short as he gained more popularity and shut down the bit of queerness that he did show and he needs to get the rest of that energy out of his system.

There are lots of gay venues in London that are a bit more chill than clubs they might visit more once covid’s cleared up; not everyone enjoys the same experiences and going clubbing at 19 is a very different experience from going clubbing in your 30s lol. My friends tend to prefer gay pubs/quieter bars where, as Phil put it, you can actually hear yourself talk and have a conversation, but you still know you’re in a space for your community and can have fun. (But maybe I’m letting my own hatred of clubbing colour my opinion lol)

In the talk, they focused on isolation which is exactly what I had in mind in thinking about Dan's life as a closeted gay man. There's a level of isolation that may be healthy for full-introverts, okay, but it is easy for it to become un-healthy, especially if mixed with anxiety, isn't? Dan himself mentioned the importance of socialising.

Basically they have lived a really isolating kind of life, even as a couple, which is not ideal, which is not even healthy. In a couple, both need to have a life on their own, which hasn't happened much for them because of Dan's situation.
Perhaps it is okay for a couple to live an un-social life if both of them are introverts, but Dan is not truly an full introvert and even then, to be closeted means there's an extra layer of isolation from the world, which in return you do not get to experience fully, a world that it is made of interactions with other (potentially interesting/attractive) people.

This being out now gives Dan more authenticity in experiencing the world, but it will bring new dynamics into their life as a couple. They will have to face something they have never dealt with before.

We all know that you mostly have to pay/contribute to be part of these nominations, so how cute is that they have chosen to let Phil have this one?
It's like a sort of marketing strategy to make him 'relevant' in the open wildness of mainstream media, as Dan already has strategies in plan (aka all those marketing strategies for his publication).

It reminds me of BONCAS

Also, that link does not seem to be the official one! It brings you a survey!

Is that actually true in this case? Rose and Rosie were nominated in a different category and an Insta story they posted about it indicated to me they were genuinely surprised by the nomination.

I'm not so sure I'd be that quick to dismiss Phil's nomination? BONCAS was very visibly traced back to their management company, I don't see that this awards program has any ties. I also think it is very clear that Phil is absolutely one of the biggest online content creators in the UK currently creating queer content. I saw people wondering why Dan wasn't nominated - but, really, has Dan created any queer content in the past year? He actually has not. Meanwhile Phil is bringing in over a million views a month and regularly making videos telling stories about when he was closeted, normalizing gay guys talking about their childhood crushes, and injecting casual queerness into every single video. I don't think they've actually 'let' Phil have anything - even if you go the absolute cynical route then no matter what steps might be involved to secure the nomination, I think he's absolutely earned it. But I haven't seen any reason yet to be that skeptical of this.

Once their website is back up I'm curious to look at who is running it. Also here is the official tweet, but I do believe the survey is official.

I have plenty critical to say about these British LGBT Awards (mostly the claim that Gottmik is the first trans queen on Drag Race, when she is very obviously the first trans man on Drag Race and nowhere near the first trans queen) but it doesn't look anything like the BONCAs? It's not focused on internet media, it's been happening for several years without any connection to D&P that I've heard; if it was rigged like that, wouldn't Dan have gotten a nom for BIG? Personally I voted for Abigail Thorn over Phil for contribution of queer content, but I don't see why Phil wouldn't deserve the nom (and obviously if Dan had been nominated it would have been ridiculous, or it would have had to be in a category for people who just exist on social media being queer).

Wait it looks like it's run by a big bank?? And the CEO is a straight white woman who relates to LGBT struggles because she grew up in Africa and was bullied for being white????? Okay yeah this is pretty damn weird.

A Dan nomination would have been ridiculous because he hasn’t created anything in the past year. Like, you can’t nominate someone as a lgbt influencer just because they’re gay, they have to actually create content, lmao.
I saw Rose and Rosie’s reaction on IG too and it was genuine surprise and considering they’re the most honest content creators i follow, I tend to believe them.

so it's 8AM and I'm just having some thoughts,,

One of the things I've really enjoyed in the post coming out universe, and especially with the stereo shows is learning little fill-in details of things we've heard before, like modern and a bit more complete versions of old stories and I was watching this video (8:11) last night:

And I was just struck by how this 'uni foam party' story of Phil's is one that Dan already knows and wants him to share, and how entertained he seems by it. Now I'm just wondering if there's more to the story that we might hear from a 2021 a little more adult and open, very gay Phil.

I know that realistically I will be left wondering forever but GOD would I like to know/hear him retell this story now.

I gotta tell ya, I haven't rewatched many gaming videos from prior to like.... idk 2017, at best. And I very much remember this video being posted and watching it live. But my god. All these years later, every minute feels so..... scripted? I don't think that's the right word, because clearly it's not ACTUALLY scripted, but they just seem very..... in character. It's weird. It's so weird.

But you're right. I want more details on the foam party now that Phil's out and more open as a human. Did he get up to anything fun in said foam? Deeeets!

I can't tell if there's actually a story or if Phil just likes to rant about foam parties? Like, there isn't anything really specific to that instance or him in what made it into the vid, except maybe that he was wearing a white shirt. It is kinda interesting for Dan to portray himself as not having foam party experience while Phil does.

I had the great misfortune to attend a couple of foam parties in my youth, and they were exactly as rubbish as Phil described... they tended to be the staple of student nights at clubs. (I don’t know if they still go on.) they might be more fun if you’re in, say, Magaluf, in swimwear with bubbles up to your neck, but noughties UK ones were usually pretty crap, rapidly vanishing foam ruining your clothes and then dumping you back into the chilly night, damp and disappointed. 2/10 do not recommend (the 2 points are for the vague novelty of ‘ooo foam indoors! It’s in my hair! It’s in my shoes!’ which is fun for about 10 seconds).
