I know Dan has said his parents aren't tech savvy and don't watch his stuff but the idea they never look Dan up online doesn't really ring true to me. Maybe they are not the types who'd feel the need to see everything he puts out (not that keeping on top of Dan's youtube content takes great dedication) but I'd think they'd still occasionally check out his channel/have a little google search for him. And even if they themselves don't for some reason then surely their are some other relatives that do and mention stuff they come across. If I has a relative who was a big internet star I'd probably check them out online at least every now and then (and then I'd gossip with other family members if I came across anything interesting).
And if you look up Dan (or Phil) it's inevitable you will be hit with Phan so I imagine everyone in their families are more aware then we'd like them to be.
I've thought before if Dan and Phil are actually being completely honest and they are really not with each other and they haven't been hiding significant other(s) from the fans for the last six years if they have a ton of suspicious relatives telling them things like they'd be totally okay if they came out as a couple.
Even without Voldy and the shippers they really do fit such a stereotype, two guys who are not the most traditionally masculine that never seem to date and who take their same sex "room-mate" everywhere.
