I'm mean, but I find the idea particularly funny if they aren't together.

I feel uncomfortable about talking about Dan's family life, because it seems like a sore subject for him... that's just the vibe that I get, so I don't have anything to add. I think speculating is 100% fine as long as everyone knows that there's still a chance that they're wrong.
Lol I'll stop babbling. As for 2012, that's when I started watching D+P casually, and of course, everything seemed fine for me.... but just because I wasn't aware of the drama, that doesn't mean that it wasn't happening. The phandom is very large and of course at least a percentage of people are always going to be drama-free because all they see are the youtube videos. Even on tumblr, in a way you filter what you see most of the time, so if you aren't actively paying attention to the phandom as a whole, you might not find anything. Idk why I'm saying this. I'd say the biggest problem with the current Tumblr Phandom is their need to constantly self-police in fear the dark times will return.

Even on tumblr, in a way you filter what you see most of the time, so if you aren't actively paying attention to the phandom as a whole, you might not find anything.

I like to defend tumblr a lot, but I think you both expressed the two main problems with it as a platform for fandoms Like most social networks, it becomes an echo chamber, which just magnifies all the self-policing.

I completely agree with you I can't help but think that if I had been on the same situation as 2012Dan, I may had ended up acting the same way. That being said, sometimes he was a douche, period (Tyler's gay friend, sitting close enough to Phil, grandma's vagina, etc.). I wonder if he ever asked Phil for advice on the matter -which he obviously didn't follow-...

Maybe this just really negatively impacted his childhood, and he still minds their aloof-ness. A lot of his comments, like 'you write a book and suddenly parents care' support this. Why they are like this is still a mystery though.

I miss the liveshows but I'm not looking forward to one at all. If they do one together Phil will barely speak and what they'll say for most of it is "touring is great but no spoilers! tickets still left! spon!".

I do wish Phil would take a pic of each magnet he is buying and show it to us, that would be cool. But tbh there's not much they can talk about if they don't do spoilers and if they want to sell all the interesting stories in future dvd tour or youtube vids. I'm not bitter, just kinda bored with them rn.

Abt 2012, the only thing that intrigues me is if Dan ever sat down with Phil and planned the responses. I would imagine they did to placate the voldy drama and it's weird to think that Dan would create the CSD blog behind Phil's back as it had the purpose of denying anything phan related. Things we'll never know tho.

I second that, this is so boring, all I was looking forward is their sleeping arrangement discussion, but now that we are over this… there's nothing I'm looking forward to.

When they are touring they literally don't do anything else… I'm so bored i can't wait for the tour to be over so we can see whether they are building a business empire or making a documentary or splitting up or coming out or getting a cbbc show or going back to r1 or… honestly anything other than touring.

I often see people say things like they'd unstan if it turns out Dan is really straight because they wouldn't forgive him for the stuff he said back then if the excuses they've applied to his behaviour turn out not to be real whereas I don't feel that way. Regardless of whether he is really gay, straight or bi or if he is really Phil's boyfriend or just his best friend I've forgiven that stuff. I don't think it was okay but I don't think he needs to be condemned forever for it either.

Same, when it comes to 2012. However, if it somehow turned out that he's completely straight yeah right I would have a giant problem with his behaviour right now. All his current hinting at male attraction would be just some kind of baiting then, which would be quite horrendous.
Don't know if you guys agree or I'm being too dramatic. Either way it seems a really unlikely scenario right now, but just thought I'd add it here as it's somewhat on the topic of forgiveness for past mistakes and being a better person now. I'm pretty sure he did a lot of growing and really is a good confident bean now

I'll admit, I was one of the dummies that thought the tour would kind of be like Japhan, where they ~brought us along on their adventures~ via IG and twitter pics. But that was a holiday and this is work. I'm still sort of surprised that they haven't really shared any photos of their new and exciting US tour life beyond that backstage pic with the sign. Like the only reason I feel like we aren't totally disconnected from them is because of the M&G pics and videos other people are uploading, not content they're posting themselves. I'm still keeping my hopes up for a tour DITL.

Busgate has been enough to keep me entertained though. Idk what more y'all can uncover, but keep it up tbh. They really must think their fanbase is a lot of idiots, huh? (Looking at those 2012 tumblr fan blog posts, I don't blame them) Or maybe they severely under-estimated the lengths people will go to prod into their business? (They must not know 'bout us.)

I had no idea about the patronous. that's so great. thanks for letting me know! The only other bear identification I can think of is his tags and reactions to people drawing him in the winnie the pooh universe. Tho tbh i'm glad something that meant so much to him hasn't become a thing like llamas. I think he's more private with his nickname (as those tumblr posts were in 2010) since he realized it could lose some of its meaning if the fandom really latched on to it.

(also, agar.io it is indeed. I remember a lot of us saying that it is a boring game, but I've enjoyed the let's plays I've watched got sucked into playing it myself. I'm so desperate for any video though, let's hope they do upload while they're in the hotel *crosses all digits* )

They do seem like the type of people that does not care much for money, specially Phil. But didn't Phil have a "looking at expensive houses/apartment" as a side hobby before lol
I mean how long can they be living in that "small" apartment of theirs when they have enough money to buy a house? I mean aren't they just slightly craving to get a fancier place? I mean they might not be wasting money like this but they sure as hell are wasting time, I would love to splurge on a fancy house while I am still in my younger primes if I could. But then again it's deppy...

If they buy a house together than that obviously gives out a strong single that they are not just two bachelor bros living together. I mean it can happen, best friends buying a house together, but I do think that more people would find that suspicious.
If they are just two platonic friends, than like Joe and Caspar they would get a place each, but that does mean living alone and that may not be what they want just yet. Plus that will really mean the end of the Phan ship and that might make a lot of people leave the phandom or at least be way less involved than they are right now.
So while I would like it for them to buy a place together, I can see why that might not be happening anytime soon.

Exactly, but I kinda feel that they're milking the cash cow with the tour, book etc right now and going more into the behind the camera side and business in near future. Then the house/houses will happen. This is why I'm very interested in what's going to happen with the network thingy.

Also, Dan has described his parents as "cool" on multiple occasions. I don't think he would use that particular descriptor if they were actually really old-fashioned/homophobic... but that's kind of subjective I guess.

I do think Dan has some issues with his family, but I've always had the impression that his resentment or whatever is based on them being aloof/busy during his childhood, not them being "unaccepting" of him.

Yes that seems legit, but sadly so. :/ This made me wonder though how long they will be pulling off their internet persona.. how long will they be able to lean on the phandom to make them money? Maybe a couple of more years? Until the teens have grown up and no more youngsters care to join the family? I wonder where they will be heading after this... where will they end up.

I take this with a grain of salt, given that Dan tends to put a negative twist on a lot of things. I think it's partly his own insecurity/demons haunting him and partly that he just feels like negativity is more relatable. He's more comfortable with self-deprecating humor than being proud of something he's done. A perfect example is the last radio show a week ago - throughout the entire thing he just kept saying how awful they were and how everything was cringe or embarrassing, even when Phil was trying to give them some credit for having done scary things and accomplished a lot. So I can also see Dan's parents being supportive but making one wrong comment that Dan latches onto and that being what he plays up.

Yes, exactly to all of this. I still don't think this means that Dan did not struggle with sexuality though. He has implied/stated that he got bullied in school for these reasons.
