I’m freaking out a bit about this video. Please watch and tell me reasons why d&p won’t quit YouTube. Sorry I can’t get the coding right to embed the video.

Well for one that's just an annoying clickbaiter who recently revamped his flop YouTube News channel and now pretends he knows things lol.

But as a Tom Scott fan (idc about any of those other people sorry) I can say that that man is not even quitting. He's just not gonna upload a video every Monday anymore like he has for the past 10 years, and he announced that he'd do that like a whole year before the last video was posted. He's still gonna be doing stuff like his podcast and second channel, and he's probably planning other stuff too. It's just a new chapter where he's going to make other content at a different pace.

So why am I quite confident are DnP not quitting YouTube? Because they already did that. That traumatic liveshow in late 2018 was their Clickbait I'm Quitting With Dramatic Thumbnail Video. It was the end of a looooooong era where they juggled two successful personal YouTube channels, a gaming channel, tours, books, radio, hosting gigs etc. They took a step back. Phil did continue posting to AP but nowadays he no longer posts videos at the pace he once did. Dan did actually quit of YouTube (he made a video about it I think not sure lol) and did a whole lot of Other Stuff (though not as much as he had wanted). He made a return with Dystopia Daily, which he called his last attempt at YouTube. And now that era seems to be over too? The gaming channel is back and they're signed with new management, who apparently are already working their magic by getting WAD officially filmed.

So it's a new era! Things have changed, just like they did 5 years ago, but none of it points to them quitting. If anything I'm a lot more optimistic about them sticking around for at least a little longer than I've been in years. :lilheart:

(also in general as to why youtubers are quitting, i think 'content creator' is just new job and we don't know what a career path like that looks like long-term so we think every new development is fascinating, like how in the late 2010's people were amazed at how former top youtubers losing popularity)

Thank you! I follow your logic. I was mainly worried about the part where they said the algorithm works against channels with between 1 and 10 millions subs. But, perhaps on DAPG they will be able to satisfy the algorithm by posting weekly 20-min+ videos. That would be great for them and us.

So excited Dan’s show will be filmed, even though I already saw it live twice. I hope they film the pre-show Q&A also. But they didn’t do those in the UK the last time, did they?

Danielhowell.com says no Q&A :(

I have little understanding of how youtube works, especially these days, but I do wonder how much D&P actually need to rely on the algorithm. Because while their fanbase is not as massive and dedicated as it was some 10 years ago (omg how old are we?) it's still big and dedicated enough that Phil's videos are pulling some 200-300k views and danandphilgames are more around 400k with a few that go way over. And I doubt that most of it is from random people finding them through the algorithm pushing them. I mean, idk how newer fans found them. That in itself would be something I'd love to have an insight on, a new fan who joined within the past 5 years and what that is like.

I’m fascinated with YouTube’s algorithm. I spend a lot of time on Tik Tok and their algorithm is so impressive, in that I’m very often recommended new stuff that I like, without understanding how they know I would like it. YouTube on the other hand has been really bad lately, they keep recommending me the same videos and creators over and over, and when they recommend something new, it is often not something I want to watch…
So how dnp get new viewers seems difficult to me… but as someone else said, it’s probably a great thing for them that their fandom is seemingly so loyal.

I remember at least one person saying on here that they found Dan from his coming out video. Maybe some people found them through Phil’s coming out video too?

Just watched the texting video – the lads remind me so much of me and my partner. Can't believe they made kouign amann and John Bercow references in such quick succession … what a world we live in.

wdapteo truly made me so happy, new comfort video unlocked. I really love this new era so much, I feel like both we and them are enjoying everything much more. I love seeing them be themselves more than ever.

Anyone thinking a Dan and Phil tour could be on the horizon one day? my prediction: the start is, at earliest, summer 2025 (if at all)

(The DAPG comeback made me hopeful for our future lol)

Fine, manifesting a DAPG video somewhere this week then. Please?

I realise Dan must be mad busy with preparing for the WAD shows though. Hope that everyone who wanted them got tickets! Looking at Twitter it seems to have a very confusing mess as acknowledged by Dan here:

This was nice? Nothing new much but… nice?

Ps. The amount of bottom!phil mentions we get by now is getting out of control. We get it boys, the fanfic writers had it wrong for ages, we’re sorry

Pps. Also the discussion about poly relationships instantly made me think if they’ve read the discussion in here haha
Did I hear Phil correctly when he said he wouldn’t want that?

Hi ! I'm so into dnp again, i love their vibes they make my day everytime they upload. I feel comfy and nice watching them ! Also really jealous of what they have. Wish i had that :happytears:

They have been making jokes about being swingers/in a poly relationship since their come back and it's very funny regardless but are they just aware of people's discourse on it and purposely play on it for fun like you said or is this a "soft launching" like they said ?

Regarding their solo channel, do you think Dan is still into it or not ? but i think Dan can do amazing stuff when he really take his time and make long videos. Phil's solo channel is just cute but it feels a bit repetitive sometimes. I know he can be very creative.

I loved this one! It felt like a really long chat which is what I always want from them.

Fully agree with this glad someone said it out loud. They're funny, cute and everything but sometimes I think about their relationship and I'm like damn I wish I could find even half of what they have.

As for the new DAPG video I immediately thought of you all when they talked about poly relationships again. For me it's just coincidence I don't think they are hinting at anything but I could be wrong. I love how Dan said Dip and Pip in the last part of the video! So cute that they are aware of that. That could make some people think they read here but I imagine people say that on twitter, tumblr, etc too.

They would probably find the poly speculation hilarious. "We barely even have in-person friends"

Well in the context on swingers, unless i understand the concept wrongly, you don't have to be friend with someone to have sex with them
Am i biased because i think it's hot ? Perhaps
I know this forum is all about wholesomeness and i'm all for that too because they are my comfort youtubers but i could be so controversial over them because of how horny i'm for both of them :devious:
But i won't start speculation on their sex life out of respect because i don't think they'd want it... righ ? :thekoolkatz:

I'm a new fan! Found them in early 2021. Been active in fandom since about 2000/my early teens. Never got into early YouTube. It was just where I went to find fanvids for whatever fandom I was currently in. Occasionally watched mainstream stuff like college humor/Try Guys. Circa 2015 my search for trans education led me following trans YouTubers. Also found early bread tube. Started spending more time on YouTube. Got into the Try Guys properly. Then Eugene Came out.

I was rewatching Eugene's coming out video in 2021 & someone left a snarky comment on it about how beautiful and art it was and that popular YouTuber Dan Howell's coming out video was just a black background. Argument in the comments about it. Got curious and went looking for BIG. I was BLOWN away by the story, the storytelling, the cultural insight... I decided I needed to follow Dan because this guy clearly had an interesting perspective and I wanted to see what else he would do. But he hadn't posted anything in a year. To bad. But then I remembered that guy Phil Dan had talked about in his video. The one everyone in the comments said he wasn't living with anymore and was probably his ex but had clearly been important in his life. So I checked Amazingphil channel. And the most recent video was "Something We Want To Tell You". And it was wonderful to see Dan in the video, not making YouTube content but clearly thriving. Instead of being estranged from his life companion they were buying a house together, and looking towards a future of happiness and healing and growth. I wanted to check out more Phil content now. I found the video about saving Steve and welp that was it. Parasocial relationship made. How can you avoid making one with the guy who befriends and saves the pigeons on his balcony?? :straggy: So then I went back to the beginning and watched everything. It was a good escape after a year of pandemic stress. I got into wierd Phil. I watched the radio show. I watched Internet support group. I watched every DINOF. I watched the entire span of their careers in a few short months. I followed the fandom as I went along. Learned about all the controversy. The crazy fan culture. The apartment theory (which was obviously true to anyone who notices details and aesthetics). Recognized that 2018 was gay soft launch. Found in Depth Bants just around the time the Stereo Shows came out. So there is my story of joining the phandom in 2021. Some days I feel like I dodged a bullet by not joining in the early days, some days I feel like I missed out.

Feel free to ask me any questions! :rainbow:

This is a cool post under my very weird and disgusting one lol. I'm so sorry, i'm so tired by work recently and i get unhinged online.

I agree it's so interesting to see recent new fans who weren't there before their coming out. How you find them is cute.
Yes BIG was a beautifuly made and written video. And also get how you just fell in love with Phil's personnality, the guy who save injured pigeons. He is so endearing and has so much charisma. Both of them have and while being similar are still different in a very "i complete you" way. It's like they are two piece of lego that perfectly fit eachother's personnalities. I wonder if there is still new fans who only subscribe and watch one of them or if people will always just follow both of them. I know in the past many were Dan or Phil fans and some sort of little fights happened between all of the fans.

As someone who got into them in late 2016 i haven't "lived that much" either. Looking back on before that seems like a very chaotic but intense era in the phandom. What at the time people were angry about or found cringe i actually find great and absolutely iconic.

I became a fan just in time for Interactive Introverts and while i view that era as not the best one, the more years pass the more i also find all of it iconic. Even if i have to admit i remember little of the show  i really need to rewatch it.

I would have loved to be there during the radio show time. It seemed so fun. Dan and Phil are so creatively original and are OG's in regards to internet culture being introduced in mainstream media. But the tatinof era look so fun too.

What i find must be interesting is being a fan of them since their very early days and watch them grow, becoming more and more popular and professional entertainers.

Recently, some videos about the phandom on youtube have been popping up, while all of them are interesting i find all lack something. The phandom seem so vast and for exemple, the iceberg video felt very "demon phannie" centered and i'd actually like a video about dan and phil's whole career, their grown and business moves and how they truly changed the youtube world and were huge part of internet culture including how their fans reacted to all of it. But i see how that would be enormous work to put a video like that.

Anyway, what dragged me into dan and phil was them, their personnalities because i'm also a huge nerd and they are very relatable regarding that. Their branding is being some sort of the "weird kid" of the school, alternative, nerdy, playing video games, watching anime, not liking social interactions, being introverts, so deep in internet culture and completely aware of how it works. I can't explain properly because i'm not good with words but the whole relatable part is for me a huge part of why i'm fond of them. I wish i was them, i also wish i was with one of them  and them being gay is also very relatable :D

Of course i also fell into being a die hard fan because i ship them and am totally guilty of being a "demon phannie". Shipping is a very interesting thing to happen, i'd love to read psychology articles about it and why humans do it, especially with queer people. It also definitly helped their whole career (while also acting on their mental health i think.) which is interesting.

So sorry again for the long post, i haven't realised i was rambling so much. If i need to calm down please tell me

I really enjoyed the video from a couple days ago! It was nice to see their faces again. (For some reason, I didn't catch that they were using the slime as the button and spent too long trying to figure out why Phil was just... holding up a slime lol) I've been taking the swinging comments entirely as a running joke that they've fixated on for god knows what reason lol.

It's great that they're doing a charity livestream, especially on Phil's birthday! Any guesses what the game will be? I'm so out of the loop on games that I have no idea what would make a good game to stream for 30-40 minutes. I assume it will be something chill and lighthearted, given the charity. I'm also really hoping that we get It Takes Two part 2 soon after that because I loved the first one a lot.

I also enjoy reading the experiences and perceptions of people who joined the fandom recently/post BIG (your post was really interesting to read, BlueSnoko! I love that the Steve video was what hooked you on Phil <3)! I've casually watched them since 2012 but only became an active fan in 2016 and still feel like I missed out on a lot (though I don't regret missing out on the fandom drama. it seems a lot chiller now, at least in my corner of the fandom). I'm particularly sad I missed out on following their first tour and their radio show era (I still haven't watched a whole radio show episode?? maybe I should.). If they do any more "reacting to old content"-style videos, I would love to hear them talk more about the radio show. Sometimes I forget that they were like, pretty well-known outside of YouTube for a while.

So interesting to hear from people who joined in later! Since I brought this up, here is my story of discovering D&P.

I'm not entirely sure when and how I heard about them for the very first time but I have a very hazy recollection of seeing some gifs of Dan on tumblr, probably something I found relatable from his video about shipping and I reckon that's how I found him. I don't remember first discovering Phil at all but obviously it must've been related. I'm not sure how long I was subscribed to them for before I started actively watching them though. But I do remember when and how exactly I got obsessed. It was early 2014 and my final high school exams were coming up. English is not my first language and I was about to have an exam from it as well and thought I could improve my listening skills so I thought I'd listen to some radio shows. Then I remembered that these two guys I casually watch have a radio show. But then I thought, why listen to their show when I can just watch their videos? And that was that. I watched every video on their main channels from oldest to newest in like a week, then followed by the superamazing project and whatever else I'd find. I didn't watch all the live shows or radio shows though, those start feeling a bit less relevant as time passes.

Back then it felt like I missed out on so much time in the fandom and on so much lore already. But it's been almost 10 years since then (which is crazy!) so I'm a well seasoned fan now, even though I interact with the fandom minimally. This forum is pretty chill but anywhere else it's just insta regret.
