I think I'm always hyper-aware of the differences between British and North American accents because my family constantly makes fun of the way I speak. My Canadian family hear my accent as English and my English mum hears my accent as Canadian. I know when I first arrived here I was forced to make some modifications to my accent because people literally didn't understand me. (The pronunciations of "butter" and "water" for instance are REALLY different between England and Canada) It's so interesting to listen to everyone's pronunciation (and to put a bit of a voice to the username incidentallytimtam wrote:This is fascinating. It's really strange that I couldn't rhyme law and war considering that I'm Australian and we use the same pronunciation. Like I know they rhyme but it wouldn't be the first rhyming word to pop into my head. Or maybe my Australian accent is too strong (I'm such a bogan I cut off the end of all my words).mysterylovescompany wrote:Here's mine. For science. I've recorded myself saying the line. I now demand that all of you in assorted countries do the same so we can compare.

For context, I'm British but have been living in Canada/travelling around the US for the past couple of months so not sounding my most British currentlyBut yeah for me law & war definitely rhyme, not perfectly but pretty well
I guess I'm always pretty conscious of accents because my family is always making fun of mine. As I was watching the video I was thinking "Wow, a lot of those wouldn't rhyme at all with a North American accent" so it's really cool that everyone else picked up on that too!
