Dan didn't annoy me this live show! I'm so happy! :D He just seemed generally interested in a lot of the things that he was saying. He seemed more earnest in general. Not a particularly exciting show, but whatever. Interesting moment where someone said 'AmazingDan 3' and Dan said 'Nobody wants to see that'. Super curious what his retrospective opinion is on those old vids, like AmazingDan.

Did the AmazingDan videos get as much attention back in 2010 as pinof did? Were they legitimately the videos no one wanted to see back then? It'd be interesting if he's still retained that bias against them for an actual reason like that, even though surely he has to realize basically anything they did now, their viewers would eat up.

Maybe they are just a remnant of when DP were under the illusion that they had separate fanbases. The AmazingDan videos are essentially the same thing as the PINOF videos, but were done in that collaby let's build our audiences off each other way. Maybe the thought that he was once not attached to Phil at the hip troubles him, haha.

(Super long and out of date post, I'm sorry, I only had this one opportunity to go online today  )

Liveshow:
- The prolonged dentist talk, wow. I'm developing a dentist kink and it's all Dan's fault.
- Dan having sex on the beach kink DENIED(!)
- "The girl I was with", lol hi Bryony
- "What was the last thing you did to Phil, interesting question....." ahahahaaha
- Sassy Dan today, calling our posters out for having stripper names. (at least I think it was one of you)
- Updated list of things Dan doesn't like: raisins, jelly, jellybeans, lollipops

^ sad lollipop

Also:
"Some people cuddle pillows"

Very funny liveshow, although very much not informative at all, haha.

Gonna answer some people now...

vincentian Yes, yes! Meerms pointed out that to me just recently, about the noticable difference in the way they look at each other/pay attention to each other in radio shows, when comparing 2013 to more recent ones. Summer 2014 you say, hmmm... I will definitely keep a lookout for it while watching and see if I can catch when the change happens! (Maybe it's just media training? It doesn't look particularly professional for a duo to not look at each other when the other one is telling a story - it's possible they got coached to look more attentive?)

This reminds me, I once made a tiny not-so-accurate timeline of what D&P did together in 2013. There was that (super false lol) rumour that Dan and Lily Melrose had been seen making out at parties in 2013, and that D&P were on a break and on bad terms. Didn't believe it but it got me curious to see how theoretically possible it would be for D&P to actually be on bad terms in 2013. And as it turns out... probably not very likely?

They really were together aaalll the fricking ttiiiime in 2013 - not just on the radio show every single week but also being in each other's liveshows, going on concerts and random work vacations together, but most of all A LOT of voluntary featuring in each other's videos, like including each other in sketches and cute behind the scenes footage/bloopers where they're laughing together and obviously having a good time. (Heartwarming examples: End of Phil's 1 million subs video and end of Dan's beach video.) The whole thing made me feel a bit warm and fuzzy about 2013, to be honest. They seemed to really like each other.

Probably why they stopped doing liveshows together that year tbh - they did waay more things together than they ever used to before, and I guess you gotta cut down on the interaction somehow as not to drive each other crazy. It's possible it was tense until they stopped doing those? Idk. Summer of 2013 seems to have been a good time, anyway. (Questionmark on early 2013?)

Phil's face!
fancybum wrote:Can you pinpoint Phil's own (much rarer) comments (about girls/singleness) dying out around the same time?
So far in the radio show, no. This is typical Phil in June/July 2013:

In liveshows he DID stop it after that, so I'm curious to see what the radio show has to offer.

And yeah, this one clip is truly an anomaly in late 2013:

I can't get the youtube formatting to work :(
But it's Phil's unlisted The Abduction video
AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
Trigger Warning :
THE BOUR
Jesus christ guys, don't even mention the bour drop, I'm still traumatized. :( :( :( I was mad af!
And to be perfectly honest, deep down I'm still mad - it's just a bit tempered by time and distance.
I said not to mention it but I'ma talk about it anyway because hey, one year anniversary of my crushed hopes and dreams etc. :sobs: maybe someone can relate

Let me paint you a picture of a crazy uthopia. It's called 'Becoming a fan of Dan and Phil in late 2014'. I know it sounds made up, but there was this time when there was no doubt whatsoever that we'd be getting a proper Dinof sketch every month and 2-3 gaming videos a week (no really, it's true! :o ) It was a time of rainbows and unicorns and magical creator/viewer interaction.

And then 2015 rolled along... Suddenly, we were lucky to get 2-3 gaming videos A MONTH. With no warning or explanation given. They just started uploading less and never addressed it. Didn't even say they were busy with something - they just left us to stew in our own confused bewilderment and disappointment and annoyment for monthssssss <--- this was the worst part, see? Then they hit 1 million followers on the gaming channel. And promised a celebration video. It took them 21 days to post that video. And it was during these 21 cursed hell days they decided to drop the bour on us. :) From nowhere. :) :) And then go silent for 24 hours. :) :) :) Fuck them. :) :) :) :) :)

Wasn't really ever upset about the book or tour in itself, might even have joined in on the excitement if I hadn't been so goddamn pissed about everything else lmaoo. I just hated how badly they handled the whole thing and how crap they made so many of us feel (without intending to, I know). And I can't seem to really get over it because I think they're STILL handling it badly. One of the main reasons I flipped my shit at the announcement was because I was worried this would mean a continued lack of uploads and a drop in quality on their channels and, um, oh wait...

No offense to AmazingPhil, that's a channel that's still got its honour left as far as I'm concerned. Dinof and D&PG however... just completely went to shit during 2015, imho. Compared to what they used to be. Dan even seems to have accepted that fact himself, judging by how he talks about it in his liveshows these days.
"Like a clown on the internet". :? What a big difference from how he talked about it just a year ago, when he was still promising MORE regular uploads, series of games he genuinely enjoyed and was excited for, saying "omg did you see the last gaming video!?? it was soooo good, wasn't it! :D ", and so on. (Do you remember he used to do that??)

Speaking of the gaming channel, I realise I haven't commented on the new vid yet. I quite liked it. Phil was scaringly good at it! He was so good he made it look easy - I'm not sure it translated on screen just how frustrating that game actually is. Video felt pretty rushed though, like I wouldn't have minded if they had taken their time with it and made one proper video, instead of just dipping their toe in it and leaving it to the audience to beg for more.

(Oh thank god fuck. I accidentally clicked back just now instead of switching to another tab like I intended, and I hadn't copied my post even once while writing it. :? Turns out this is a beautiful, beautiful nice little website that saves your post automatically and let's you return to recover it, I'm so relieved.)

I haven't watched the liveshow yet, but this is an interesting comment by Dan. I don't believe for a second that he really thinks people don't want to see AmazingDan 3. The first thing I thought of when I read your question is this part from a customerservicedepartment answer:

  • What I think, is that people want a Dan that never really existed. The people that say I’ve ‘changed’ to how I was 3 years ago are probably only interested in ‘the Dan’ they saw in Phil’s videos and ‘Amazing Dan’, the one who was rolling around on the floor being a bit immature and silly and cute like Phil’s video style. This has never been me or my videos.

To me, this sounds like he was facing pressure from the phandom to be the Dan they saw in PINOF and AmazingDan. He mentions AmazingDan by name (and interestingly, not PINOF), which suggests it was definitely popular on its own.

That being said, he probably did have access to stats that told him about the popularity of his different videos relative to each other. He goes on to say (in the same answer);

  • I think a lot of people who only found me through Phil and are into ‘Phan’ have no interest in my actual videos or personality but just want to see me do day-in-the-life videos with Phil, which I have no interest in as the hard work and creativity I put into my videos is so much more than that. (and clearly statistically more people enjoy them)

Whether his sketch videos were actually statistically more popular or whether he just wanted them to be, I don't know! Maybe someone who was part of the phandom at that time can weigh in?

(I've put the entire question and answer under a spoiler, in case you want context.)
ahairyginger asked:
Dan, whenever I watch your videos now I can’t help but think you’ve changed (and I know change is neither good or bad,it is simply change) over these years, and that’s acceptable because everyone does! But at the same time I really prefer your old videos (which is completely my opinion, no doubt people share it and completely oppose it) because back then in your old house, and even in your flat in Manchester with Phil you seemed like a real person with a genuine connection to the real world.

customerservicedepartment:
Okay this is a good question. I’ll try not to make it ‘too wordy’ but I’ll say what I’m thinking. (and this isn’t directed at you Mr. Goodquestion)

What I think, is that people want a Dan that never really existed.

I spend infinitely more time now interacting with you guys with vyou and liveshows and an ask button as opposed to back then where I’d upload a video once a month and then just never go on the internet.

If you go back to my first ever videos like ‘Procrastination’ & ‘Did you order some sex’ - these are exactly the same as the videos I make now. Asides form the Sonic 4 video with me and Phil, that’s always been the case. I am a sarcastic, alternative, sometimes inappropriate British guy who tells stories and opinions. That’s who I am and always have been.

I think a lot of people who only found me through Phil and are into ‘Phan’ have no interest in my actual videos or personality but just want to see me do day-in-the-life videos with Phil, which I have no interest in as the hard work and creativity I put into my videos is so much more than that. (and clearly statistically more people enjoy them)

I have always said that from the moment I started youtube, after being influenced by communitychannel and paperlilies and Shane Dawson that I have constantly been trying to become the youtuber I am only just becoming now! I still don’t think I’m there yet tbh.

My video style or personality hasn’t changed at all. If anything I’m less ‘sassy’ and offensive because only in the last 3 months have people started misinterpreting my sense of humour and started moaning about it. (what’s up with that right?)

I’ve just got slightly better at editing and slightly less immature, which some people might not like, but to be honest clearly more people like the videos I’m making now as 400.000 of my 500,000 subscribers have arrived since this spring.

All I’m going to say is that before people accuse me of ‘changing’, they need to ask themselves if the videos on danisnotonfire have ever been different to what they still are now? And as friends and other youtubers constantly tell me these days, I shouldn’t have to apologise for other people not understanding my sense of humour.

There are hundreds of thousands of people now who totally get who I am and how I act and if someone doesn’t because they ‘dont get it’ or are (sorry) too stupid or literally 10 years old, it shouldn’t be my problem because I’m just trying to make stuff I’m proud of and please the people who do get it and totally understand me and my videos.

It must makes me sad that people are having a go at me when I haven’t actually ‘done’ anything. You know what I mean? I think I live an entirely positive existence until someone says something. There are so many wonderful amazing people across the internet who are a joy to interact with that have probably known me for years and have no interest in being remotely dramatic about anything. So I will continue to be here to make them smile. :)

I hope I'm using this forum correctly hahaa. I assume all the same rules apply here as did there, kind of making a post rn because I need to get some points on the forum and I assume that's how you get them? :'D

Maybe it's just me, but does any one else find Dan and Phil painfully... dull lately? Don't take that as hate, more of an observation on their personas than their actual selves. Something that used to be there is not there any more and I can't put my finger on it. Phil's tweets always seem like the same thing whilst Dan barely tweets at all. Plus, watched Dan's liveshow as always but he never seems like he really wants to be there, if he doesn't I wish he wouldn't to be honest! The older he gets, the weirder doing those shows is going to be. Love them loads as people but damn, the bour has been going on for almost two years now it feels like it'll never end!

Wish it would, prefer things to be as they were. Oh well though, hopefully everyone in America will have fun with it all, dnp will sure be exhausted by the end of it.

Welcome!
I agree about the live shows. They're supposed to have an intimate and genuine feeling to them, that is literally the whole point, and if Dan were more honest about how he was feeling then
a) we all would feel more at ease
b) HE would feel more at ease, and then yay happy rainbows.

With Phil, at least he remains upbeat... I'm not sure if this is better or worse, but I think it's better because at least he's putting in an effort to not act bored. Could you imagine Phil not genuinely smiling ONCE during a liveshow? neither can I.
That oddly comforts me.

Yeah, PINOF has evolved naturally over the years in a way that AmazingDan hasn't, obviously. But that doesn't mean that people wouldn't be interested in seeing another AmazingDan. Personally I'd be very interested to see what they would do in it...how they would act...how similar/different it would be from recent PINOFs. Honestly, I'm more interested in their fanbase at this point than I am of them. Like, if sites like this didn't exist, I probably wouldn't really watch them. And likewise, I think their fanbase is one of the few things that is keeping them in the limelight, as in poeple may not be subscribing for their content but because they have heard so much about DP and want to be in on the party. I eman, how many people started watching Supernatural because they kept hearing about it everywhere, I knwo I did.

I think what confuses me about that is that they still do PINOFs, which to me seem to be excatly the same thng as AmazingDans. At this point even an AmazingDan could be more interesting because they could play off the big jump in time and make it into almost a parody of that time (cmon, Dan, poke fun at yourself somemore), which would be more Dan's style, I think, and would keep it from just being a second PINOF.

One side of me is very apprehensive of this concept. The other half of me is still apprehensive, but will happily accept this video if it means Dan will talk about Evangelion for more than 2 seconds. Unlikely, considering that Dan considers the majority of this fandom to be people who aren't interested in anything but the popular titles.

Which is also a philosophy followed on the gaming channel apparently. That doesn't even make sense. I don't understand where the thought process that people who watch gaming channels for the personalities and not games won't watch a video with a game they don't recognize comes from. Mark/Jack/Pewds have widespread appeal that already debunks that.

Welcome! Yeah Dan's lack of tweeting recently is grating on me; he's a self-proclaimed lurker, you know he's on twitter every day, would it kill him to tweet something? anything? What happened to his resolution to tweet more and think about it less? He's doing the opposite, grr.

Never mind Dan, I want to see how I would react to that. I think I might die of happiness. Oh! That just reminded me that Phil went "Oh ff-!" at 8:35 in the Impossible Quiz video when he clicked the wrong letter. I think the attempted strangling that followed overshadowed it, but I just wanted him to finish that thought. SAY IT PHIL. LET IT OUT.

*raises hand* I'd be very interested in seeing another AmazingDan. Even if they were a similar premise, the initial tones were very different. I don't think they would have evolved in the same directions if they had both continued occurring. There was much less of a whimsical nature to AmazingDan. Though, with such a large break, I wonder how jarring it would be for a new one. Especially because Deppy are not those people anymore and we wouldn't get the nice (though sometimes not so nice) growth and progression we got from PINOF. Those were yearly snapshots in their changing relationship with some absurdity thrown in. Getting AmazingDan 3 would be like a weird af time jump probably. I'd be very interested in seeing it. Especially what Dan and Phil envision as a direction that it could go in. But obviously, it's been trashed to never see the light of day. Unfortunate, I believe.

Agreed. I don't understand how the Phandom is so good at entertaining itself. And how it's so well connected. On last refresh, this site has 227 members. All a result of GG crashing. With little to no advertising. Its existence was spread by a link in a comment section and word of mouth. It's amazing how quickly everyone flocked here. The Phandom is a beast in and of itself. And I love the view from the inside out :)

Yup, it was 100% the phandom that got me here. I didn't get the hype from the first few videos I saw, then investigated some inside jokes that I saw in the comments and was curious about, and now here I am!
I am very much in awe of the phandom, and how many different sides it has. I also wouldn't know about half of what they do since I don't bother to follow them on other forms of social media other than youtube. You guys keep me up-to-date just fine!

The phandom definitely snared me, but I gotta say - specifically it was the people posting on this forum, and this kind of conversation and debate that did it. I dismissed phan and the phandom for years before this because all I was exposed to was the tumblr side and without knowing the humor more closely the inside jokes fell flat and the self-awareness on some fronts went over my head. Everyone just looked way overenthusiastic about really dumb things.

And now I delicately eat crow for my prior attitude. Mm, tasty crow.

Agreed with everything. If it wasn't for their fans and how present they are in all social media, I don't know if I would ever pay attention and check out their radio show, because you know... A radio show presented by youtubers? No, thanks. <- me before starting to get bombarded by people on my dashboard on tumblr posting gifs of them and discovering that all those weird trending topics on twitter were about them.

So yeah, the phandom keeps itself entertained and keeps producing content (see all those amazing fanarts and fan videos posted on the other thread here) and that's what keeps me interested. There is always something to discuss, even if it is their fanbase.

LET IT OUT.
YES YES YES THIS!!!
The "roses are red..." thing is my favorite part of their early videos together. Dan's reaction to Phil saying it with a serious expression on his face is something else and needs to be repeated. Need to analyze that shit asap.

First of all..

ayane, I agree 100% about AmazingDan.
And alittledizzy, I would pay anything a lot to hear those words come out of Phil's mouth, even censored. ;)

Edit: not sure how to make this format work?

because I was super bored. And around the 2:30 mark he pulled up a picture of Dan laser-ing Zoella's face off that he SAVED TO HIS COMPUTER.
The same one that we talked about a while ago where Dan looked super jealous
Like I find it so funny, I just think of Phil seeing that and being like "omg jealous Dan is so funny and adorable let me just save this" like... what else would he use it for?
He tried to play it off as just a cool gif, like the best part about it was the laser eyes, but we all know what he was really thinking.

Anyways I'm sorry, carry on
Deppy jealous kink confirmed.
Also, you throw away the s in https. #pro-tip
"Oh it's a gif of Dan lasering Zoella's face off," Phil says lightly, as though it were the most normal thing in the world. Amazing.

I'm definitely going to rematch this later and stalk every photo on his desktop and in his folders.

This kind of video really intrigues me though. I always wonder how long they spend pruning and organizing their files so that they contains nothing remotely incriminating, but don't look too pristine. I'm positive they create folders, change titles, arrange things on the desktop...etc.

Since we can’t thank posts anymore I’m just signing myself under pretty much all of the above.

I'd like to think he would do it with a benevolent smile. Not a smile meant to strike fear in the hearts of many, mind you.
crash[] that is so beautiful, I'm moved. I like the idea of him writing those with a smile on his face while the world goes up in flames around him, hahaha, I want that to be the 100% true case.
Dear god why would you do that to me. I'm having war flashbacks

please tell me this looks a bit like a dick to someone else too

I'm also agreeing with the "more interested in the phandom" thing- that was the whole thing behind the phandom survey, for me. What makes this weird ass hive tick.

Hi Everyone!

Thanks so much trashqueen for the link!

I'm just going to shake off my nerves at having to learn new computer skills and dive in.

I have so much respect for this group. You saw the hypocrisy of mods not having to abide by rules and left. Way to go! When akui mentioned having lived in a dictatorship and the path of descension, I couldn't agree more.

I bet they never thought it would really happen. Ha ha, jokes on them.

I've got a lot of reading to catch up on, hugs to you all!
