Sorry to double post but just had to share.
I was telling my daughter about the sh*tstorm and subsequent relocation, and she said "what are dan and phil going to do when they log into gg and everyone's gone?" I died laughing. Y'all may have already discussed this in the new (31 page!) thread, and if so, please accept my apologies!
Ok so now you all know I'm old af. smh.

Woah need to wake up earlier to catch up with this forum before I start the day
Loving all the new smilies and there is always something new when I visit here, great job admins
Haven't seen/read the latest Dan's ls, so thanks for the update. I am not sad about the BBCR1 as the format has become boring to me; though I do hope that means there will be a new venture with BBC at the end of their tour.
I think they need some type of show that they can pre-record for a season and not live, this will enable them to commit/attend to other projects as and when required without having to decline because of fixed live schedules.
I'm looking forward to the admin to import the achieves from GigiHadid as I am getting lonely being with Gigi alone
Most probably if D&P (or their management) stalk Gigi, they are amongst us and had received the invite

phandom got me into d&p too lmao. i’d been pretty done with youtube for a long time and i think last summer decided to check up on some youtubers i used to watch and ended up on gg somehow. i think i was on the tronner thread, and someone implied that dan and phil were in a relationship. checked out the d&p thread and was mind blown bc at that point i’d only seen them on the odd finebros vid, and based on first impressions they just seemed incredibly boring, incredibly nerdy and incredibly platonic. initially had no interest in checking them out and was pretty close minded about youtube in general. (in fact i think the only reason i even rmb them was bc i was kind of annoyed by some of dan’s obnoxious comments in the kpop react ones, even tho he was technically right when he insulted my fav lol dammit)
anyway, i think for me the gossip definitely drew me in and the fandom kept me around and entertained. fangirling and speculation, or more often complaining these days, wouldn’t be nearly as fun on my own <: i rmb being surprised at how active the threads were bc they weren’t being hate watched and more popular youtubers barely had a full thread. was hard to fathom how they’d managed to build such an engaged fandom for themselves, complete with archives, traditions and inside jokes. they just have so much history and the fandom provides such great resources for digging. i didn’t think youtubers were even capable of having organized fandoms, yet the tumblr notes were top tier kpop level it was just insane. the phandom is truly a phenomenon, not too sure how it happened but im glad we're all here
i do rmb being impressed by their content (esp dan’s old sketches and the ditl’s) when i first started watching, but tbh at this point i think i’ve lost a lot of objectivity and half the time when im watching their stuff i have no idea if i’d enjoy it if i weren’t so overly invested in their personal lives :/

I laughed a good 5 minutes at this smilie and the code xD ily guys! Thanks for all the other ones.
I haven't watched the ls because I'm slightly dead right now but I'm sad abt the radio show. I do hope they'll continue working with the BBC. It'll be pretty dumb to throw away all the connections they have there, I do understand that they want to focus on the bour as it must be giving them a lot of cash rn but we never know what might happen with yt and having a permanent connection there must give them some sense of stability.
Though I'm also hopeful as they haven't really made a great deal abt it... who knows with them tho

Agreed with you here on the stability aspect. I think - or at least, I hope - both Dan and Phil are smart enough to realize that what BBCR1 gives or gave them is extremely valuable and better for their future than a lot of their other ventures.daichii wrote: I haven't watched the ls because I'm slightly dead right now but I'm sad abt the radio show. I get the feeling BBC's no longer interested in Internet Takeover or anything of the like (though I hope I'm wrong and D&P somehow magically get their own radio show back when they return). D&P prob have no say in the matter. But them not making a big deal out of it is a play to keep the fans calm. If either one of them were to officially say anything along the lines of "our time with BBCR1 is over," the phandom would go berserk and BBC would be bombarded with anger.
What's happening here is smart on D&P's part. Call it a hiatus for a little while, then carefully, quietly mention a finale show. Blame no one. Don't make a show of it at all. The fandom keeps calm.
I'm also thinking that the departure was probably not completely on D&P's terms, which may be why DP are also trying minimize it, even though they prob wouldn't get hate. I can't imagine any youtuber right now turning down a potentially long-term stable job, especially one that doesn't really interfere with youtube, so that they could still milk the youtube fame for all it's worth before it dies.rizzo wrote:Agreed with you here on the stability aspect. i want to convince myself that they are doing moving to bbc3 and the reason why dan said the rest of the year is up in the air is simply because they are still working about it/don't know the details or when it will begin (especially if they are doing an european tour or something), if they are throwing away their place on the bbc for nothing i might punch them, i'm pretty sure being youtubers forever isn't their life plan but they both want to do something entertainment related, why would they waste their opportunity of being part of the bbc?rizzo wrote:Agreed with you here on the stability aspect. it also feels like a logical progression for their career tbh, i think the last time we talked about the possibility of them having a show there now that it was moving online some people raised their concerns about them not being that good as presenters, imo they are average and the awkwardness is part of their style at this point; they also weren't really good at the begging of the radio show and they still got it, and learned fast, so i really really hope that's what the future holds for us
i also don't think the bbc would fire them, their show was popular and they did the job of introducing a younger (and international, although i don't think they care about that) audience to bbcr1, and now they need the internet generation to watch their online channel, d&p are perfect for that
idk, i'm a communications student and i want to believe i have learned something on my 2+ years of college talking about stuff like this, but then again i live on the opposite side of the world and i have no idea how the bbc works or if my knowledge applies, and well, there's a reason i am a student
i have yet to watch the liveshow, i'm gonna do that now
can i just use my emoticon for no reason on every post? i love it, literally my best use of photoshop so far this year, screw my tumblr edits

You guys are wild, I get caught up at uni for a day and boom.
I tried to skim through everyone's posts, so sorry if I missed anything and I'm reiterating what's already been mentioned. These are all irrelevant liveshow reactions, anyway.
--on the subject of being casual to the radio show ending, I honestly think that's just their smart businessy way of going about it. If they made a big deal and "dropped the bomb" (as they say) then everybody would be flipping out all at once. It would be even worse if people tried to contact the BBC and leave them comments being mad at it ending (which sounds ridiculous, but I could totally see it happening.) If they announce it slowly, people have time to make their own assumptions on what's actually happening (or not happening) and are able to sort of ease into the idea.
That being said, I am sad that it's (possibly?) going. I didn't watch them live often, but I remember being so excited for them back in my old deppy following days where I was a more casual fan. I've also gotten recognized on that show a couple times, so it's near and dear.
--I found it really interesting when someone complimented Dan's hair and he said "Thanks, I need to be told these things." (or something along those lines
) I interpreted it as one of those joking-not-joking moments, kind of cute in a way just because it's so open and honest. Unless I'm reading way too much into it, then that's just sad.
--too lazy to find exactly what he said, but when talking about the Quiz vid he advertised it as "a video people who don't like video games would enjoy," and I /think/ he went on to talk about difficulty in going into heavier games for the channel. idk about you, but that sounds like a pretty contradictory statement for a gaming channel.
They can do what they want I guess, because the channel seems to be working out well for them either way.

I don't know, it's very possible they could be being moved around by the bbc onto different times slots, stations or media. They could have something else planned for DP, and/or think that Internet Takeover is redundant now that everyone and their grandma uses the internet or feel that a newer batch of internet peeps should takeover. But also budgeting and changes in marketing plans could also play into them just not renewing DP's contracts, but keeping them on reserve for future use (that is if their popularity is still there). I don't know, maybe DP even got a better deal elsewhere, but don't want to say anything. I'm rambling now, shut me up, pls. I'd be interested in seeing the bbc's metrics and marketing plans (the insider gossip I really need in my life. media industry executive gossip!), and I'm also interested in seeing how internet fame in general will evolve and how D&P will cope with that.trashqueen wrote: i also don't think the bbc would fire them, their show was popular and they did the job of introducing a younger (and international, although i don't think they care about that) audience to bbcr1, and now they need the internet generation to watch their online channel, d&p are perfect for that

my favourite thing was when someone on twitter was saying something about how age doesn't mean you can't be in a fandom, and they gave the example of a twenty two year old. It was hilarious, because that is actually average age for people here, and I only know phandom members from this forum (well, GG, but that's just tumbleweed now)

on the topic of dan and phil being kind of dull nowadays, what was their "peak" (so to say) of interest for you? my favorite was probably on the whole drama of the isle of man visit for fathers day or so, i found the drama with the liveshow slip up the week before and the twitter fandom trying to hide airport photos or whatever with the eventual speculation/theories of what the fuck they were doing so fun. but beyond that, i agree. i'm trying to place why i feel this way without scapegoating my own falling interest i guess, but ah well. maybe it's the lack of drama? am i just sadistically waiting for a slip? do i even care anymore? i'll let myself out
Vday of course and lubegate which was way too funny. It was hard to believe anyone could have that kind of slipup. Not just you. Most people here are probably sadistically waiting for a slip. Or maybe we're evil.

honestly i like them a lot and all but i am here (talking about them and not just being a passive watcher) for the slipups and the moments when the fandom goes full on sherlock mode*, i have no shame admitting that
*and also here for when they willingly share part of their private lives, like japhan, but that doesn't happen a lot lbr

yeah! i would agree. especially april/may last year was great! whilst japhan was happening the phandom was just so much fun to be in and everything felt pretty genuine, dan and phil were clearly so excited for their book and that kind of made everything just have a nice buzz i suppose. the promise of tabinof coming out, the making of video, japhan vlog + selfies and many other things just... it was really nice. also danisnotonfirevyou1 posted some good videos back then too which also, personally, added a little something to it all.on the topic of dan and phil being kind of dull nowadays, what was their "peak" (so to say) of interest for you? my favorite was probably on the whole drama of the isle of man visit for fathers day or so, i found the drama with the liveshow slip up the week before and the twitter fandom trying to hide airport photos or whatever with the eventual speculation/theories of what the fuck they were doing so fun
in comparison: now the boys are/seem like they are super tired all the time, dan doesn't seem to have passion for his videos anymore, they're going on tour again soon but do not seem anywhere near as honestly motivated as they used to! oh and danisnotonfirevyou1 is d e a d (well, not literally) bit of a contrast, nothing wrong with that it's just how it is i suppose.
yup. well, yeah.
I have a very specific idea of what I want the next AmazingDan to be.
When danisnotonfire channel stop uploading once dan hit the age of 50(tots gonna cry
), I want the very last video to be AmazingDan. Not necessarily the same format, but they answers unanswered faq all this time and it will all be soppy. He will say 'bye', the screen changed to the danisnotofire special effect, with danisnotonfire word written at the background with small amazingphil beneath it, then slowly fade out.
When danisnotonfire channel stop uploading once dan hit the age of 50(tots gonna cry
Love is forever
