Btw these donuts looks very unappetizing, like something Shane Dawson would eat in his videos.

Yeah, food is definitely big with the Lesters. Half his tweets about his family are about them bringing him food/sweets, buying him food/sweets, sending him food/sweets, or him eating food/sweets while at their house.vincentian wrote:I agree, family discussion is a tricky territory. I feel like Dan also plays a bit into relatability to stereotypical teens here. As in many other instances, I wouldn’t take half of his somewhat "negative" family mentions seriously. The boy may be an open book sometimes, but I think not in this case.
edit: From what Phil says about his family one can conclude that good food is the major factor why he loves going home lol.
Below I've compiled a collection of tweets I'm going to call, "Phil Is Maybe Slightly Spoiled." It's sort of hilarious. JUST LOOK AT HOW OFTEN HIS PARENTS FEED HIM CAKE.

Someone mentioned this a bit earlier, but I think the content drought vibe is coming from the lack of live shows... I know I'm feeling it. Their twitter updates mean literally nothing, as well... so all we get is M&G photos, which are also monotonous. There's not much to look forward to other than the end of the tour, so with that in sight we just can't wait and .... are bored. lol.
At least I can focus on exams rn and not on D+P. Perhaps it's for the best.
Edit: Phil's tweets can be cute but mostly they make me want to throw my phone into the sun

I think Phil is quite spoiled but not in a bad way, he's just very close to his mum and however feeds him(Dan).oqua wrote: Yeah, food is definitely big with the Lesters. RE: Drought - I'm missing the structure of 2 LSs a week, and radio show every first monday. It's the "not knowing" that's driving me up the wall...
Though to be fair, with the size of my Mum's family, I could be related to Phil and never know it, so maybe it's a family thing..!
This isn't a normal/northern thing then? When you're away you get packages every so often with things from home, or when you go home (or in my case nowadays, when the parents come home to visit!) they have to "feed you up" and buy all your fave treats. Not necessarily just food either... toiletries, all sorts of "home" stuff. It's BRILLIANT.oqua wrote:Yeah, food is definitely big with the Lesters. Now catching up on everything regarding the parent talk and it had me wondering....has Dan ever stated how old his parents were when they had him?
I always hear people say that his parents had him young but how young is "young"? Idk if it was a dream or not but I feel like I remember him saying around 23 but I could be wrong. Anybody know how old they were?

That's adorable, and no, I've never gotten a care package of any kind from home. I had a roommate in uni who was Northern and her mum constantly sent her things and it was the cutest. This isn't a normal/northern thing then? When Dan was born, his mother was 26 and his father was 31. I've never understood why he thinks that counts as "quite young."NarrysCanary wrote:Someone on GG said that they were 18, I don't know if it's trueblueapple_x wrote:Now catching up on everything regarding the parent talk and it had me wondering....has Dan ever stated how old his parents were when they had him?

Oh wow. From everything I heard about the whole Dan's parents thing, I expected his parents to be way younger than that. I don't think that's young at all.oqua wrote:When Dan was born, his mother was 26 and his father was 31. Probably because in his Draw My Life, Dan says, "I had quite young parents, which was actually kind of cool, as my mum graduated in Philosophy and my dad was a DJ-slash-special-effects guy for films who used to sneak me onto move sets, which was pretty cool."NarrysCanary wrote:That's not young at all, where do all the "Dan's parents had him young" rumours came from then ?oqua wrote: When Dan was born, his mother was 26 and his father was 31. Also, he consistently implies that his grandma played a very large role in raising him when he was little, and it's tempting to interpret this as evidence that his parents were, like, not quite ready to take care of him by themselves, which goes along with the theory that they were young when he was born?
Anyway, yeah, from the way people talk I would have said at least one of them was like 19 or 20 when he was born. Ages 26 and 31 are definitely not young to be having a kid, at least not in my opinion.

Thanks! Where did you get this info? Did Dan mention it in a liveshow/vyou? Idk where I got 23 from lol.oqua wrote:When Dan was born, his mother was 26 and his father was 31. I remember something like that happening but I didn't know it had her age online. I guess his dad's age was also found in the same way?akui wrote:I think we actually found his mum on the internet once.blueapple_x wrote: Thanks! Where did you get this info? I guess 26 and 31 are kind of average ages to have kids but it also largely depends on your background/culture as well I suppose. Nowadays people seem to be waiting a bit later to have kids so maybe that's why Dan said his parents had him quite young.

"don't mind me, just having a little float" - dan howell
Great! Politics talk It's not usually the sort of milkshake that brings all boys to the yard but i'm glad to meet some political junks here
I apologize in advance for the text wall but not really.
We don't have much information to work with ( as usual
) but i've got a strong suspicion Dan is pretty progressive. I noticed he's following quite a few twitter accounts in the "progressive family". Labour, Jeremy Corbyn, Owen Jones and the new London mayor Sadiq Khan (and he didn't follow Boris Johnson).
He's mentioned Bernie Sanders carries has favor and the very first liveshow of Dan I watched i managed to get a response out of him after rephrasing about 25 times "yo what do you about Jeremy Corbyn" (who just got elected back then). He said something akin to "let's see what he brings" followed by a rant about how he felt much more informed about politics than the average person and hence avoided bringing it up (typical Dan being typical).
Phil's expressed political views are about as rare as dark matter's interaction with light but he strikes me a a progressive guy too, in general. If we assume his views in 2010 were influenced by his family and they live in a conservative constituency there's a better than even chance he voted for the tories. *shivers*. I'm not sure how to read his social background in a uk context, but rich parents (how do we know this? because his parent's house looks a bit big?) in tandem with a 'northern' emphasis on self reliance/fiscal austerity goes hand in hand with a conservative political philosophy.
Phil is an intelligent guy who's quite capable of forming his own political opinions though. He might be sympathetic to the views of his family or discuss them at great length under the stars with a particularly passionate sanders' girl, i don't think we can really say we know his own views.
What we can probably say with some certainty is that they're both socially liberal. Objectively speaking, they've also become pretty rich so they might theoretically have an economic incentive to vote conservative. Research shows people vote much more on sociotropic grounds rather than purely economical ones though. I sure hope they aren't to class conscious in their voting
On the topic of them not really engaging with charity causes and not talking much about the less fortunate, well.. they could be very charitable but private about it and i fear they still cling to the "i'm an entertainer so i have no controversial opinons" idea.
I think the broader fanbase should really try push them to do something for charity. Life has been generous to them, no harm in giving some back. and hey we might get some nice content with it
Not going to talk about their families because this has already gotten way to long but there's one thing i have to say to oqua There is no hope for you Your are the trash that gets thrown on the trash pile after thousands of subsaharan kids scoured it for anything useful. Your dedication makes us look like fake fans every time

Here are the final tallies. Draw your own conclusions I guess.
Phil
family: 35
parents: 85
mum: 86
dad: 25
mother: 2
father: 1
TOTAL: 234
Dan
family: 11
parents: 4
mum: 13
dad: 10
mother: 1
father: 2
TOTAL: 41

How on earth does Phil eat all that crap yet he's currently skinnier than he's ever been? ._. Those donuts don't even look that good. Phil definitely gets spoiled by his mum, it's quite cute (but my god I'd never want to marry a guy with so much attachment to his family). I kinda wonder if while Phil was/is obviously a bit of a mummy's boy, Martyn was their dads' favorite? Phil has mentioned Martyn always being the 'cooler' of the two, was he their dads' perfect son? Is that why Phil is seemingly not that close to his dad? I'm an only child, siblings and their relationships are foreign to me lol.
And yeah there's not a lot of difference in their terrible uploading schedules while on tour, but the lack of liveshows, radio and them just being the most boring they've ever been on social media makes it feel like the worst drought we've had. The most we're getting are a hundred of the same meet & greet pics almost every night, which is. sooooo. boring. Respect for @updatedphan for keeping up those endless retweets, I would've called it quits after a week :')

At the risk of further revealing myself as the trash I am....
I just went through all of Dan and Phil's tweets about their families and categorized the interesting ones according to whether they were positive, negative, or neutral. Obviously all my judgements about whether these mentions are positive or negative are pretty subjective, but I kind of tried to air on the side of negative for Phil and positive for Dan, to minimize my own biases lol. The "negative" ones aren’t all overtly negative — sometimes they’re just unenthusiastic or annoyed or something. And the positive ones aren't all overtly positive — some just reference time spent together as a family or whatever. The "neutral" ones are interesting and imo worth sharing, but basically impossible to class as positive or negative without more info.
