I was watching YouNow of Alex and Jake (two smaller British youtubers who make trans-related videos) and they mentioned Dan and Phil.
"They are popular because they are two guys together and the used to look quite emo.”
“The problem is you can see straight through it [relatable content] more and more these days. I think after that one time that we saw them in the green room … like they are not like they are on the internet they are sooo… We can’t do it, we can’t rip them apart. But they are nice people.”

What's the meaning of the bolded part? This looks interesting. The fact that deppy's content is generic to say the least isn't news, but I'm quite intrigued when other youtubers talk about them, even if they are small youtubers. Thanks in advance.

I just watched it and it didn't really come across as "dirt" or anything.
It seems like they were just saying that both of them are just super mellow normal guys and not as quirky and outgoing as their internet personas and it's a shame the fan base puts them up as god figures instead of seeing them as human.

In honour of the deleted tweet, a tiny nostalgic timeline over those 2-3 weeks of their lives under the cut:
Dan tweets this:
3 minutes later:
Coincidence?
Phil on Dan's Myspace:
Obviously they'll still be there to see Muse together in 2010.

I just watched it and I must say, the boys sound like they think Dan and Phil are "less gay" (sorry for the wording, I hope you know how I mean it) as they are in public, so that's why he said "we can't do it, we can't rip them apart".
Idk, that's how that conversation sounded like for me.

Yeah, from the way they said it, it didn't sound like "rip them apart" was meant to be critical, just that they (A + J) were contradicting the way their (D + P) personas come across by talking about what they're (D + P) like in a non-Youtube context, and they (A + J) didn't think they (A + J) should be doing that for viewers whose only interaction with them (D + P) is via YouTube.

I think you missed a moment in your quote "like they are not like they are on the internet they are sooo…" where one says "they're normal" rather than anything derogatory. I get what you mean though, most of the phandom are under the impression that what we see of deppy in their videos are what they are face-value while their real selves are a lot different. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with deppy having private aspects to their personalities and lives that they don't want to share on camera. While some want an open window I don't mind being thrown bits and scraps to piece together.
Also the two boys in the video aren't exactly die-hard phans so only get the two from their videos and not from any live shows or radio shows. While I sympathize with the work they obviously put into their channels there is a slight bitterness there that they don't have the millions of fans and intensity Dan and Phil have. I have the sneaky suspicion that they think they think they're the only ones who know that they're playing characters

Yea, and Geert Wilders sounds reasonable compared to the Vlaams Belang we have. There are some bright spots like Podemos in Spain, and it's hard to tell what the future brings but right now it's sea of stupid nationalism and parochial politics. It is not like we would ever know. It would be different if they are daily vloggers. All we see of them is through there videos or LS. It could be a set because they can go there to film (both normal videos and DAPG) and do a ls for 1 hour a week then go back to their real homes (with their secret partners!)
Maybe that is why they spend so much time together in the outside world because they actually don't live together or spend 24/7 with each other.

I've watched it again and I don't think they were criticising them either. I wasn't sure the first time, but now it kinda makes sense that they mean deppy are 'normal'. Anyway, it's always interesting to see what other youtubers say about them, especially if they are not close/friends with them (I guess it gives a more objective perspective, maybe?). And one thing that I really like is that no one seems to talk badly about them.

That's exactly what I thought so too when I watched it ^
it's the whole 'personas' story all over again.
Funny enough I heard that a few times before but as in 'the flat is a studio and they have a house together where they can act as couple-y as they want to without having to scan the house for itens that can compromise them before filming' - I kinda just lol-ed when I saw that bc there's so much stuff in the flat that I doubt someone would spend that much money in a studio.

Catallena Damn. That conspiracy theory might actually work if Deppy weren't on tour right now and living in a bus together. Why would they do that if they were simply keeping up a charade?
Nothing else to add at the moment, just wanted to get back on IDB for a change.
I know this is super late and probably seems unjustified to you, but last weekend really fucked me up and I wanted to stay off of the internet for a while. I'm happy to be back now but it's hard to stay caught up on everything when y'all move so fast.

Yeah I don't really get that theory, this is not the first time I've heard of it, but there is not even a tiny part of me that believes this, because I just see no signs of this.
re: Alex/Jake - They said they "saw them in the green room," not "met them," so I don't think anything they have to say is worth a whole lot about what D&P might really be like behind closed doors, if they have only one experience of seeing them 'act normal' in what sounds like a still professional environment (a green room at SITC or what?). What does acting 'normal' even mean vs what they do in videos? What are they doing in videos that's so abnormal that seeing them in a room not doing it was surprising or notable? I thought maybe once they went on that tangent about people being in 'youtube mode' even while having a shitty day was going to be about D&P (as in they weren't "on" when they saw them or something), but I'm not sure if they still had them in mind.
And then the comment about the phandom: "the phandom, like any massive fandom, can be a dangerous, scary, and just awful place to be". I mean... I guess? But what does that have to do with anything, how does it tie into what they're trying to say about D&P. I don't quite get what they were going for (other than the one in the back making sure we knew he's above it all, congrats). If it was about them not being as awkward as maybe expected... we have ample evidence of D&P being genuinely awkward in candid moments, so.. idk.
What were they expecting and what did they get? I'm not clear on either.
In other news: this [part of the] tour will be over in one damn week
I can barely contain myself- get those boys back to the UK where they belong. Maybe their next joint liveshow will be from their set flat and we can look at all their dead plants
If Dan and Phil's friendship is just them maintaining an act then if there is awards for that kind of thing they need to start giving them to Dan and Phil. Bravo to them they are giving the performance of a lifetime.
At the moment they seem to be getting photographed all over America being tourists together and it's not like they are just on tour with a strange crew and each other Phil's brother is with them, he has solid other options other then being stuck with his business partner and non-friend Dan. And even when not on tour about nine times out of ten when they are candidly photographed they are with one another. That's a lot of time they spend together largely off camera just to to maintain the friendship rouse.
Not to mention the non-work holidays together they take, on the last one in Sep/Oct (wherever they were before the UK tour) we got less then two minutes of footage on lessamazingphil. A lot of effort for fake friends to go too for so little footage.
Also if their flat is a studio why am I not getting more content?? That is not the "studio" of lazy slackers that place takes maintenance. Like why have so many plants to maintain if no one lives there? And does Phil move the DVDs around on the shelf to create the varied levels of messiness each week for his younow? Did they get Willow to take a fake picture in their fake flat to post and delete within minutes on Oscar night to create the affect they were there with friends? Do they sometimes come over for the others younow to be heard in the background or seen on screen for 5-10 seconds to add extra credibility to them living there?
If they can put that much effort into their work space I want more content!
Or maybe it's why we get so little content we don't realize every second they spend together they consider work.
Re: Alex&Jake – sorry if it looked like hinting at something scandalous, I just threw it in, didn’t have any intention of the sort. The “normal” part I wasn’t able to make out, not a native speaker.
Funny how they stopped themselves from trashing Deppy though, everyone is scared of phandom as hell. To me it seems they heard swear/being cynical or something (yes, I think they meant SITC green room) and thought 'hah those guys with cat whiskers and an army of tweens'. Just my guess of course. Still it upsets me a bit that A&J (being youtubers themselves and supposedly knowing about persona vs real self) seemed a bit disillusioned about D&P having seen them irl.

Sorry babe too lazy to go to the other thread; times has changed from my time where the cities where made their nest (Manchester & London) were the most dangerous to live in UK.
We used to get bomb scares every few weeks even during exam times, the worst was there were no trash cans in any public places then, we had to keep our trash around with us until we get home This new generation never went through those awful times and the older generation seems not to remind them
Nice to see you staying on brand. This video....*sweats nervously*
I'm honestly surprised to see that some people on here haven't seen the 2009 tweets. I just assumed if you were enough to be on a Dan and Phil forum you would have seen them. Honestly, the way they used to behave towards each other is the only reason I'm even still considering that they might be more than friends.
