The tickets are not entirely free like someone said above because of fees and everything, it cost 10 dollars I think. But yeah that's not faireevee wrote:This is absolutely awful for people who bought tickets. They really need to refund everyone. Not fair. Smh.

Are the seats being sold at least ?

They should just do the whole show for "free" and then not have a M&G. Or do a "free" show with a raffle or something for people to win M&G tickets. That could help sell tickets. The possibility of winning a M&G for $10. That would be worth it. I would be pissed if I bought tickets at $100 and someone right next to me paid $10.

Just what I was thinking as well. If I had bought a ticket for the evening show than I would also snatch up a 'free' ticket for the afternoon one.swofro wrote:I think it's fair if the same people who are going that night snatch up the free tickets too. I would think maybe they should offer something more to those who paid for the tickets, not a m&G as I think I would be pissed to have paid for it while others only a ex.40$,but it seems quite idealistic to expect a refund.

I think the only way someone who paid $100 is next to someone who paid $10 is if one person snuck into an empty seat. The free ones appear to only be the upper mezzanines, they went for about $45.Winston wrote:They should just do the whole show for "free" and then not have a M&G. I didn't personally buy a ticket, I live on the other side of the US, but I am still angry because I know how I would feel if I had bought a ticket. I'm sorry but i don't see how that's fair. I think those who bought tickets to that show should be refunded, not the original show. The original show has nothing to do with my feelings. I also don't care that only some tickets are free, I think if you're going to make tickets free you should make the whole SHOW free. Yes I understand there are fees but $10 versus $45 is still a big difference if you ask me.
I sound like I'm making an angry rant I just really don't like how this was handled. I'm not holding it against D&P personally because I find it hard to believe that this was all their personal idea.

so I'm going to that show and I think I just realized its only a couple days away.
but yeah the "first level" sections aren't going for free.
the parterre (back part of the floor seats) is still unsold but I think they figured those would might still be sold via the vidcon hype. People who are here for VidCon might also be tempted by free tickets if they hadn't planned on going because of the cost.
I got my ticket for free but I feel like if I liked them enough, I would be okay with having paid if it meant getting seats in the first rows vs getting free tickets far away. There were some seats sold in the upper mezzaines (besides those being resold) and if I were one of THOSE people then yeah, I'd be pissed.

Honestly, this all feels like rather standard procedure to me. It'd appear they added the second show a bit too late because they were expecting the first one to sell out more quickly, but have always intended to do two shows - that's just being reasonable, considering it's the one they're filming, you're gonna want at least 2 takes.
And like, the public perception of your success matters a lot. They're obviously making an extraordinary bank on this tour, like there was recently a stop where they sold every single piece of merch they brought with them, most of the stops were either sold out or largely filled up - TATINOF's been a success. No doubt about it. A success that wouldn't end despite me imagining slowly setting it on fire on lonely nights, but all the same, a success. But the thing people look for is a sold out tour, completely, that's the thing that helps you promote your next one. And I've been to countless shows and concerts where what was packaged as a truly, epically can't-get-a-ticket-if-you-shagged-a-toad kind of sold out, and in reality, you could see a couple of rows that were empty or semi-empty. That's just what you do, it's marketing 101, and a relatively white lie when you consider the amount they do sell, you're just shifting the public perception a bit, and most people who aren't as close to the thing truly don't notice. (And again, you're not trying to sell shit to the most dedicated core of your fandom, you've already got them hooked, they're likely coming even if you promise tell fart jokes for 2 hours.)
And sure, the second Dolby performance sold less they were expecting it to. (I don't think they were ever thinking they'd sell it all, but they did probably think they'd sell more.) So they released the other one, sold as much as they can, aiming at either the most dedicated people or those who couldn't get a ticket to the 1st one, and then they did like a rather reasonable thing. Releasing free tickets's probably mostly gonna bring in the peeps who've already paid for the other performance, so they get a nice experience, and D&P get a nicer vibe for the tour video. Mutually beneficial. I think bringing fairness into business (and this is a business, not hanging out with friends for 100 bucks a hug) is rather misplaced, but this probably satisfies the biggest chunk of people it was going to. Wrapping it up in a bit of misinformation helps them navigate the public perception of the tour, which is smart considering it's (god give me strenght) not ending yet.
Done. Am I being helpful? Probably just annoying. Oh well. Back to glaring at my wall and muttering about how I've finished Undertale again since their last update it is then.

Thanks for the info phamnotof.
I didn't know that they sold that much merch, I knew it was a lot, but that they sold out completely one evening is pretty big. They must be making bank this tour.

Your whole post was great, but this made me laugh out loud and you're absolutely right, but it's super frustrating seeing 'sold out tours' where there are blatantly seats available.phamnotof wrote:But the thing people look for is a sold out tour, completely, that's the thing that helps you promote your next one. Either way I'm sure it's a business decision to film it twice, so they have 2 takes for the video, and also to give away these tickets to get butts in seats and be able to claim that it 'Sold Out'. I generally just think they need to be announcing and releasing tickets earlier, because with 2 weeks notice almost any show would struggle to sell out, especially with how expensive M&G tickets and stuff are.
Although yeah they are doing fine profit-wise with all the merch and stuff selling out, so in the end it doesn't matter to them if they are practically giving seats away.
Anyhow that's just my 2 cents

Wow. I haven't been paying attention to the amount of seats left for the last US show but last time I looked the theatre was essentially pretty empty! They've sold/given out a significant amount of tickets it seems.
Anybody know 1)where are the cameras going to be set up? In the UK weren't they at the back? Did some people say it was in the mezzanine section? 2) approx. how many "free" tickets are being given out? and 3)where are the seats for these free tickets?

From what I can tell all the seats in the 2nd and 3rd mezzanine are "free" and should be $60 and $45 respectively, and a huge number of them have sold compared to what was still available earlier today..blueapple_x wrote:Wow. All the seats in the 'main' flooring bit behind the orchestra are $75 and a lot of them are still available, so unless they reduce those it's still gonna be pretty empty looking on film

Thanks! I was getting confused lol. Still, it's a huge improvement from what it was in terms of number of seats filled imobluebox-away wrote:From what I can tell all the seats in the 2nd and 3rd mezzanine are "free" and should be $60 and $45 respectively, and a huge number of them have sold compared to what was still available earlier today..blueapple_x wrote:Wow. But yeah...Dan's lie is painfully obvious. They would have had plenty of seats available to sell, camera or no camera. The whole "free" thing is the worst cover up I've ever seen lol. If they were packed to the brim and realized they had extra seats where the cameras would be, there would've been no need to give away free tickets, because it shows the demand would be high and people would've paid to see the show. I feel a bit bad because with better organizing this probably could've been avoided.

Also why are they still in Seattle, shouldn't they be well on their way back down south? Unless it's a delayed insta to avoid stalkers

This is because the video is not taken from the AP or DINOF channels hence they do not have copyright under those names. It is for a stage production by DH & PL hence the copyright is under their names.blueapple_x wrote:Not that interesting but...
This tatinof spoiler video missemma posted in the tatinof thread was predictably removed due to copyright reasons. In the past didn't it used to say either 'danisnotonfire' or 'AmazingPhil' that claimed copyright? Now it goes by their actual names?missemma wrote:Just gonna leave this here
As for the free tickets, I believe it is only for the seats they blocked for the cameras and not for all that is currently not sold as yet.

I think it's delayed insta because the crew girls posted photos from the same place as them (and this implies that they were together with the merch crew) a few hours before these. I think it's safe to say that they are already on the road.bluebox-away wrote: Edit: ah someone beat me to it, but they look adorable

well imo the fact that they fuck up like this is proof that they are control freaks, if they payed people to do stuff for them this wouldn't be happening, so yeah, chaotic control freaks, i actually like that about them, it makes them more interesting to follow than Perfect Marketing Gleamers™hunnyftw wrote: Situations like these are the main reason why I always side eye theories (Phan related or otherwise) that assume Deppy are some mastermind planners and control freaks and that they almost always know what they're doing. also i think dizzy is right, they are doing the second show just to film it and they don't care about making money our of it, now, why didn't they film in another location where they did have two sold out shows idk, maybe it was bad planning, maybe they really liked that theatre
