Phil without Dan on a panel, I don't think so :? Who will defend him ;) Phil is still not comfortable with open panels setup I feel, he is ok with close and structured interviews.

Phil wasn't the only inspiration for Dan to want to do youtube, but he was the motivation behind Dan moving from just idly wanting to start youtube to actually doing it. No one is projecting that onto Dan because of a ship bias - it's what Dan himself has said, multiple times. I've also never seen anyone accuse Dan of lying when talking about other inspirations, or claiming that Phil was the only reason Dan was into youtube, so I'm not really sure where that assumption comes from. I said he'd be lying if he acted like Phil had nothing to do with it.

I've always regarded Phil as Dan's mentor/sifu when it comes to youtube.

Bit of a tangent on Phil's hair/looks...
[offtopic]
So, I recently started watching Orphan Black (I know, late to the game), and immediately I was struck by the character Felix Dawkins, especially his hair. The character started the series with a very Phil-esque hairstyle, but with almost every episode he has a new hairdo. The actor and Phil have quite a similar face structure, so I think a lot of these same looks would work for him as well. C'mon Phil, howa bout a little variation!!

I got SUUUUUUCH bad secondhand embarrassment from last years "My First Vid" panel (or whatever the hell it was called - you know the one I mean!) Quite happy to forget about the whole thing, aside from the glorious Phil Trash #1 moment. ;)
So my hope for the panel they're on this year is no (or much reduced!!) cringe, and Phil to get a word in edgeways. C'mon angelbean, be a liiiiiiittle bit more assertive. People want to hear what you've got to say!
Friend of mine is just back home from running some fitness instructor trainings in Arizona this weekend just gone... He wasn't quite as polite as Phirru, but he did post this pic of what I assume was Dan five mins after getting out of the car:

and people act like acknowledging other people = acting like phil had nothing to do with it.
he said from that start that it was because of multiple people, it's only recently that he's been saying it was phil. he had multiple friends in the youtube community from early on giving advice and encouraging him, being close to some of them before he really was with phil. the only one he's still actually close to is phil, but it's weird to pretend that he was the only one properly encouraging him.
classing dan as something phil had a large part in ~creating~ = phil seems more successful
tbh i find the phil trash stuff he does really embarassing, like love yourself mate its possible to be grateful for help without downplaying your own success and hard work and encouraging the phandom to do the same :gg: being taught how to use a basic editing program doesnt account for his video making skills or the fact that he grew so quickly through the style he gained from multiple different influences
my name is jaejmine masters and i have something to say. dan and phil have fucked up japan :japhan:

That's true. Wasn't it last year that Phil was going to do a panel alone at first, but that Dan was added to it later on? Or maybe that was just a good fanfic that I read.

By Dan's own words Phil is his youtube senpai, so I'm going to go ahead and believe him. This doesn't mean that there weren't other youtubers that he liked and got inspired by. Just means that Phil might have had the biggest influence on his career.

My confusion about the defensiveness on Dan's behalf comes from the fact that I've personally never actually seen anyone respond like that. I've never seen anyone claim that Phil is the only reason Dan wanted to be in youtube, or get upset when Dan mentioned other people.

It wasn't a fanfic. It happened like that. Dan is the one that feels more comfortable in that kind of situations.

that's interesting. But I have my reserves. At the European one, would big American and even big British youtubers go? I am actually not sure at all. It'd be nice for other European youtubers but as soon as their content is not in English, it is actually harder to imagine really successful attendance in international events for them.
For Australia it is just so far, I can't really imagine Americans or like Dan and Phil flying there every year like they do for USA.

Those are my reservations too. If Dan & Phil won't go to SITC (which is right on their doorstep), would they go to the Amsterdam one. It might be more likely as it is Vidcon.

If it is going to be like LA Vidcon with big youtubers, then I am Like mentioned on here before, Amsterdam is one of most accessible cities in Europe so It should be easy enough for a lot of people to get to!

We don't know if that happened because Phil didn't want to do it alone though, just pointing that out. Nobody ever gave a reason.
+1 wishing that Phil would talk a bit more in these types of situations and wishing he'd be in the 10 years of youtube panel, i'm sure he'd have interesting things to say.

If anyone cares: The panel was called "laughing with and at us", it was a general comedy panel. For some reason they played all the speakers' first videos.

that's true i can understand why he would feel uncomfortable on a panel though, it's basically like being singled out in a seminar/class in front of a crowd
european vidcon is interesting. i'd love to see d&p explore the streets of amsterdam, hiring some bikes for a romantic cycling-in-a-park date, taking a riverboat down the canal, popping into a 'coffee shop' for some 'refreshments'... hopefully it wont end up like the fault in our stars tho

Ya'll have so much hate in yer hearts for those of us who just like to wear black without giving two fucks about the weather. Black hoodie, black jeans, & black boots today for me... I will be at TATINOF tonite representing the allblackwheneverthefuckIwant contingent.

In other news, its frustrating that these dudes have given us more instas/tweets this week than pretty much the whole of the last two months. More othersideofthemoonDaniel, please, Phil. I'm preparing myself for radio silence post-Vidcon.

It's reeeally hard for me to imagine big English-speaking Youtubers going to events in non-English speaking countries. But idk if they even mean to have those globally big YTrs there? For example Finland hosts the biggest YT convention in the Nordic countries and it's pretty much just only for the Finnish YT scene, but it's doing pretty well for a country this small. It's not the international names that make people come, it's more for local Youtubers. It's probs more like they're just using the name and know-how to put up similar events but the content/creators will be different from the USA one.

The article says:
Both events will focus on local talent, but established U.S.-based creators are also invited to attend.
So that means it'll be both: local and us youtubers will be there (or at least invited)

I think that's a nice way of saying US youtubers will probably not be there (I hope I'm wrong, though)

edit: just looked and there wasn't people doing that! I'm very happily surprised by the phandom.

Dan and Phil do go to SITC they aren't going one time when they happen to be on the other side of the world touring.

I didn't even notice that that Vidcon 2 days pic was Dan, haha!

As for a global Vidcon, I think Vidcon should learn from Playlist...don't have multiple cons a year, no one will go to the extra ones. Unless these cons focus on local youtubers, they'll totally flop. I don't know exactly what happened with Playlist but I remember looking into Playlist TriState and seeing that literally no big youtubers were going...it seemed like the Playlists who weren't in Orlando totally flopped. Does anyone have more information? sorry if I sound ignorant, but I was kinda out of the fandom for a little while. Please forgive me.
