I don’t really see why no youtubers would travel to Amsterdam or even Melbourne. Since last year now, we have had comic con in the Netherlands, we even have two different ones this year, and pretty popular actors and writers travel to attend those, so I’m not sure why it won’t be the same with VidCon.

I’m trying to remain optimistic, because I would only go if there were non-Dutch youtubers going, not really a fan of most Dutch ones. Besides I’m pretty sure that we already have a con or something like that for just those Dutch youtubers, so having another one basically just for them doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

squishphan I'm pretty sure celebrities get payed to attend comic con ;)

i want to believe that most youtubers would attend unless they are busy doing something else, i don't understand the obsession some people on this forum have with other countries first language not being english, as if half the population of earth didn't speak english as a second language

i think the other playlist case is different because those were all in the same country right?, in this case it would be a con for a completely different crowd that most likely can't attend any other youtube con, and idk if i was a youtuber that would make it more of a priority than going to another fucking con in the us, as it there weren't plenty

Wow, European Vidcon right in my backyard. I always thought that if European Vidcon would go through they'd go to the UK or Germany tbh. I'd go if the line up is any good and if I'm not broke. I'm not optimistic about either of those. I'm a bit skeptic about the whole thing tbh.

Look. The Netherlands already has it's own local event (many European countries do) called Dutch YouTube Gathering, it's kinda evolved like SITC did in the sense that it upgraded from meeting in a park and walking around a city, to a proper event. And I'm sure they're feeling very threatened now BUT... If big US/UK YouTubers attend EU Vidcon, then I can imagine the salty Dutch YouTube not being pleased about having to share the spotlight and not headlining the event. Then DYG would live on as the preferred event of Dutch YouTubers, but possibly with less visitors. Same with other countries Creators and their events. A concept with 'local' and international YouTubers mixing in at one event like Vidcon wants though? That's not gonna work I think.

However, if those big YouTubers don't attend then there's really no point for a EU Vidcon. The reason European people ask for a EU Vidcon is because they want a chance to meet those big US/UK YouTubers. Like I'd go to DYG if I wanted to meet Enzoknol (I really don't), I don't need a Vidcon for that. I'm guessing it's the same for other countries. Plus, there's a reason European events never mingle; a 'local' European community doesn't exist. We're not one country like the US. Fans of Dutch YouTubers (apparently those exist) aren't interested in German, French or Spanish YouTubers. And the Creators aren't interested in each other either. They all make content in their own language (with some exceptions, some even have international relevance), based on their countries' sense of humor and interests. They have their own communities and fanbases.

Can you tell I'm not a big fan of Dutch YouTube lol?

(A Dutch beauty blogger/vlogger I'm sorta acquainted with is hyped for this on Twitter, but she also never attended DYG because she had her own event. I think this year was the last one though, she might be looking for something else and I know she loves a lot of US YouTubers.)

Isn't smoking weed legal in coffee shops though? Just not in public. But particularly in Amsterdam the rules aren't harshly enforced.

We actually have too YT events here, VEED and DYTG, which is actually too much already, if you ask me. Not even big youtubers like Dylan Heagens and Enzo knol go these events anymore, so adding another YT even would be quite useless indeed. So unless there will come populair British or American Youtubers, Dutch people wouldn't even be interested in Vidcon that much, since DYTG is exactly the same and I don't think Vidcon would be held that far away from DyTG either...
And same, the Dutch Youtube community is horrible. IF deppy would come to the Dutch vidcon i'd probably only go for them

It's still not legal to use drugs, not even in coffee shops I believe. Although coffee shops are allowed to sell soft drugs. It's all pretty complicated and doesn't make much sense.

So, I recently started watching Orphan Black (I know, late to the game), and immediately I was struck by the character Felix Dawkins, especially his hair. The character started the series with a very Phil-esque hairstyle, but with almost every episode he has a new hairdo. The actor and Phil have quite a similar face structure, so I think a lot of these same looks would work for him as well. C'mon Phil, howa bout a little variation!!

 Yes! I love Orphan Black and a few times recently Felix has reminded me of Phil, they do look alike. His surname reminds me of Jack Dawkins aka The Artful Dodger, it's cute.

Louise's poll is nearly 60% for daily vlogging and about 30% for just one vlog, so with any luck there will indeed be vlog(s).

I was actually planning an Amsterdam trip this year (that flopped because money) with some weed-virginal friends so I did some research on this, and I'm pretty sure it's legal - there are grey areas around how the coffeshops acquire the material, but the sale itself isn't just looked away from, it's licenced and I think there's like official guidelines by some ministry (of justice?) saying who should not be persecuted. A lot of shrooms were made actually illegal in the 2010s, but weed that has less than a certain percantage of THC (there's a line past which it's considered a hard drug, all of which are illegal in the Netherlands) is sold legally by licenced places. Similar rules like rules around booze apply - so you can't smoke in public, drive under the influence, etc.

As far as the idea of D&P drug touristing - now that's hilarious. They could in the US, too, a few places have made it legal on a state level, but the idea of them in a coffeeshop is just too good. I can just see Dan ordering a pure indica because it sounds fun and not being able to get up for days. :D (I'm such a giant bummer with this, but I think they're really really boring that way.)

Damn I'm so out of touch with the Dutch blogging/vlogging community (I blame all beauty blogs and channels going to shit past 2013, after that I never bothered), I've never even heard of VEED ._. Since when do they exist? Why does this country need two events? Most of these Dutch YouTubers are already big headed enough as it is, they don't need be worshiped on two separate occasions. Let alone three with Vidcon added to the mix. Looking at their website and guest list rn, I don't even know who most of these people are. And Frans Bauer as a special guest.

And hi! The amount of Dutch people on here is growing~ :D

About weed being legal or not: I was taught in tourism/hotel school that smoking weed is legal. Possessing and producing cannabis is not, however up to 5 grams of 5 plants is tolerated. Same goes for selling the stuff, only up to 5 grams is tolerated. The police can still confiscate the drugs if they see fit, but you won't get charged. It's actually a pretty dumb and confusing system (obviously coffee shops gets their stuff from people who mass produce illegally and not from some guy with only 5 plants in his attic, thus the system benefits criminals), but still better than the zero tolerance policies in most of the world. :thumb:

I just checked the government website and it is definitely not legal here, just condoned and only under strict rules. Also technically coffeeshops are not allowed to sell to tourists, only to Dutch people. But we all know that rule isn't really enforced.
So if really wanted to smoke weed, the states might be the better option. But I really can't see them using.

I find it hilarious how little I actually know about the weed legislation of my own country, I just always assumed it was legal to smoke everywhere. Oops.

I saw that tweet earlier and couldn't read a word of it, but now I can see some.

Starts "Phil can you buy these things for me please? Going to take a nap so don't wake me up thanks."

First on the list are "tissues" and "more lemsip" the lovely lemon-flavoured drink specially made for relieving colds. Bottom is "more tissues" and "thank you".

I love those future accounts too especially their Father's day tweets. #domestic When I saw that tweet I immediately thought that whoever runs those accounts spent a lot of time in IDB decoding "The Rules."

We're trying to figure out the (scarily accurate) fake Dan handwriting of those pretty brilliant Future accounts and talking about marijuana laws. Plz D&P be more interesting! Post another cute selfie or something.

As for a global Vidcon, I think Vidcon should learn from Playlist...don't have multiple cons a year, no one will go to the extra ones. Unless these cons focus on local youtubers, they'll totally flop. I don't know exactly what happened with Playlist but I remember looking into Playlist TriState and seeing that literally no big youtubers were going...it seemed like the Playlists who weren't in Orlando totally flopped. Does anyone have more information? sorry if I sound ignorant, but I was kinda out of the fandom for a little while. Please forgive me.
I believe there will be a Playlist in Washington DC in early September.

Hollywood 2:30 update, it seems they've "sold out" the mezz sections and entering the code now gives the majority of the back-floor section seats for free.. :? which means that at this point, most people in attendance will probably be attending for free...

Technically smoking weed isn't legal here, just condoned. But he will get away with it. ;)
Isn't smoking weed legal in coffee shops though? Just not in public. But particularly in Amsterdam the rules aren't harshly enforced.

Dutch YouTubers are terrible lol
It's still not legal to use drugs, not even in coffee shops I believe. Although coffee shops are allowed to sell soft drugs. It's all pretty complicated and doesn't make much sense.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of Dutch youtube either, give me Dan and Phil any day.
Technically speaking: it's illegal to use, possess, produce and sell drugs everywhere in Europe BUT in coffee shops in the Netherlands, this doesn't trigger a legal persecution. Moreover, in most of the coffee shops the sale to non residents in the Netherlands is strictly forbidden. The other legal exception (in Europe as a whole) is the use of drugs for medical or scientific purposes.
