nah man maybe I was dedicated and wanted to meet them so I called out to them when I saw them at a con, but I wouldn't do something as extreme as try to kiss them or ask them to propose, ask them to sign a formspring answer, talk to them about phan, do ANYTHING like that! These are real people and they have boundaries, it's pretty clear that this stuff makes them uncomfortable and I can recognize that. I don't even think I hugged them when I met them they were in a super rush so I let them go!

I lowkey had this in the back of my mind as a possibility. It seems like more and more stars are doing stuff like this, with Beyoncé and Tidal, Taylor Swift releasing her concert movie only on Apple Music, and now D&P releasing their tour movie on YT Red, it seems like the big wigs behind this stuff have weighed the pros and cons and decided that the limited access it gives certain fans and the possible backlack of that does not outweight the benefits they get from the deal.

Honestly, I find it remarkable how they deal with it (though one might argue that it just "comes with the job"). But it seems astounding that they still seem so genuinely appreciative of the things the phandom does, no matter how much facepalm potential it brings.

I think you are not the only one. A lot of people complain about it including me haha. But the thing is realistically what conversation starters would you want from Dan for that less than a minute meet and greet where you get a hug, an autograph, a picture and byeee? All those persons they meet are complete strangers too. It is difficult to have interesting ice breakers/conversations in those conditions.
I think giving personalized compliments is a nice ice breaker (and yeah it is always "nice shirt", "nice hair", "nice drawing" but it is still personalized to the person each time), it makes the person happy and more relaxed.
For the doge face yeah that's kinda funny/annoying but they both have a go to face for the selfies (Phil pulls the same face on every picture too) because that must be tiring honestly and also because he doesn't wanna look like shit on 10000000 pictures on the internet so he sticks to a pose he probably thinks he looks good in...

Does digital release make it more limited access? I would have thought the opposite, if anything. There are going to be countries that dvd production companies don't ship to, right? And with a digital download or streaming online (like someone mentioned earlier) even if the subscription service isn't valid in your area then it'll be up for individual purchase. It'll also be decidedly cheaper if it's digital (and no exorbitant shipping fees) so more people can afford it.

I'm not sure how it's generally been working but I think Tyler Oakley's was on Youtube Red briefly then went to Netflix.

(Also, all that said, I'd buy the fuck out of a dvd and hope Dan's sentimentality for nicely made physical representations of media wins out over bottom line.)

That's all a good point, I didn't really think of that, I was just thinking about how YT Red is only in a few countries. But you're probably right, a digital version is more accessible assuming it's made available to every country!

I don't know if this will happen again, but people were saying YT red has a 30-day free trial, so it'll be totally great for those who haven't gotten that free trial yet and we'll get to see the movie for free, and then those who already got a free trial will have to buy a subscription...that was an issue in the tswift community people were saying it sucked for them having to buy it when so many fans could watch it for free, I don't think that's going to be much of an issue in the D&P fandom though since so many people are ready and willing to buy it!

I would probably be complete trash and stream the movie the day it came out as well as buying a physical copy!

not to mention they could sell some signed copies, people would go bananas for those

How likely is it that it will be ONLY on YTR? Someone already said that Tyler's thing was there initially and then went on Netflix. I also don't see a problem with letting youtube distribute the digital version, while the danandphilshop distributes the physical DVD. Somehow i have a feeling that if given the chance, Dan will want something physical.

Any maybe youtube won't even be the only digital distributer, it could be available on YTR as well as amazon etc, right?
There's also the possibility that the BTS and the actual show will be seperate. Maybe YTR has exclusive rights to one of those? Maybe there will be a DVD that includes the show plus BTS and YTR only gets the BTS as a teaser?
There's so many possibilities, i hate not knowing

There are so many distribution models, but I think that an exclusive with YTR for a certain period of time, then to iTunes / Netflix, and then to physical copy after a few months. What they need to avoid is hooking up with a traditional distribution company / channel - they are evil, and have a long and sordid history of screwing artists and copyright holders.

no matter how it's distributed, there will always be people who don't have access, so there will always be a less legal copy somewhere. and since d+p themselves watch plenty of things in less than legal ways, i'll happily ignore anyone complaining about it. if you don't have money to give or a product to buy, they're not losing money by people watching it through another source.

Danandphilshop would be a great place for the DVD but they have to think about region codes on DVD. They wouldn't be able to sell the DVD everywhere which is where digital copies will be good.

I would totally buy a physical copy of it and a digital copy. Especially if the physical copy had something interesting with it or a cool cover. (I brought two TABINOF's (One preordered and one signed) so It doesn't bother me to have more than one copy of something).

You can publish a region free DVD / BluRay (or set up the shop to request the proper region DVD.) The DVD region code scheme was set up by distributors to segment the market. D&P as the distributor don't need this "protection."

Living for the cool album art on the physical copy, but who am I fooling - I'd be streaming it on the first day it was available, and a co-conspirator in the massive internet meltdown caused by the Phandom.

It is funny how blissfully unaware the rest of us are as to what is going on behind that backdrop during M&Gs. I had no idea about the creepy things that happened back there until I saw them on updatedphan later.

No mention of girl with the french horn yet? A girl straight up brought a french horn & played part of "The Imperial March" for them. Since I have amazingly shit luck, I was directly after that girl.

Round two tonite. I'll try & do a write up of thoughts in the respective show threads over the weekend. Too tired & don't wanna be at work right now. :wtf:

Am I the only one that's slightly nervous about the reaction the phandom will have to the news that the tour will more than likely be on YouTube red? Like not everyone thinks logically or realizes where and how YouTube Red exclusives are accessible. And because of that, there is going to be a massive backlash across all social media. And if this is the YouTube Red hall, does it open to the public today since vidcon starts today? We found out here first and everything was pretty calm since it was all explained pretty quick, but with everywhere else,

It's not going to that pretty around there for vidcon weekend, is it?

There's gonna be backlash literally no matter what they do, unless they are somehow the first youtubers (or content creators in general) to discover a system of distribution that is super cheap/free, available digitally in every single country at the exact same time with no restrictions, and also in physical form with free/cheap shipping that would also arrive to everyone at the exact same time.

Only just caught up a bunch as I'm travelling, but I hope the phandom's self policing keeps such cringeworthy, too-far m&g poses to a minimum, cause they make me so uncomfortable. Same with the girls who tweeted from the plane / airport, don't make them have to deal with a mob of people when they leave

Also YTR doesn't surprise me if it is indeed available to most countries (even Netflix and Amazon and stuff aren't fully worldwide I don't think? Maybe Vimeo is?) Either way we knew there'd be a digital version somewhere at some point..
Also loving the Dutch chat, so many of us! (I'm not really Dutch but I grew up there so I can pretend) VidCon Amsterdam is only interesting to me if big US or UK YTers go but with the local European youtuber dynamic idk if/how that can work. +1 on not really liking Dutch youtubers, although a friend of mine is trying it I should probably check out his channel.. And finally to sharing the joy of Dutch music with the forum. Let's definitely stay clear of that its mostly so so terrible

One word about M&G photos with this readhead girl - D&P are looking really uncomfortable, true. But if you are looking at photo ops with actors form various TV series - hug is something normal (i know from experience, i met Supernatural cast), sometimes even a kiss. Maybe she met some famous people and was hoping that D&P do that too. But D&P are just awkward people from the Internet.

Speaking from personal experience as someone who was at the M&G yesterday! D&P were "behind" the backdrop from our point of view while we waited. Sorry for the confusion.
