Dan & Phil Part 18: disgustingly & inappropriately cute

I'm going to have to agree with dp33 and boredtotears Kanye's video was disgusting and no one can convince me otherwise. I just want to understand Dan's reasoning for stanning Kanye. I also understand the difficulties of liking a problematic musician (I have been listening to Chris Brown since I was 7) but I am very careful about ever encouraging his aggressive tendencies. The problem with Dan is that he is one of the most influential Twitter users. Look at his retweets, people do listen to what he has to say, and to see him encouraging that kind of video is very disappointing. I am going to wait for a real, thought out explanation for why he liked it in the ls but honestly I can't imagine how he'll justify this one.

Catallana Phil does like Joss Whedon but he is very careful to really express that with the audience, especially of recent so I think that's where the difference lies.

Anyway I loved the video, they were both very giggly and chatty and the atmosphere they built was so awkward and romantic and fitting. That's how I'd imagine deppy's proposal going down

Dan was like Ridiculously Camp all video, pretty sure it was impossible not to notice. The bit with Tabitha's dress might have been a new high for him though. I loved them talking about sassing Dil's shorts, probably because Phil just accepted Dan's use of the word sass. ("Let's not sass him." "Alright." at 6:07)

I fucking lost it when Dil rocked up to the restaurant without pants like I had a mouthful of coffee at the time and it nearly went badly wrong. And Dan's "stop making yourself laugh" comment right after that when Phil was making the bad marriage puns (why was this entire video so sweet omg).

I think the pants thing probably just happened and they didn't plan it because I started up the game for the first time in a while a few weeks ago, and the game had just randomly deleted my Sim's hairstyle and she was bald. Which was a shock.

Another funny bit I don't think people mentioned (but they might have so many people have posted ahh) was Dan just shooting down Phil's "I always have a plan" with a "You never have a plan. For anything. What are you on about" at the start. Oh and the giving us dinner advice- 7 is the busiest time so go early or late (11:09), because it was clearly something they'd agreed about before, they didn't even pretend not to have heard the other one say it before.

I didn't go to a dirty place with the breakfast bar thing! Which puts me in the minority. I just thought it was cute, and thought about the page in tabinof.

I can't see it being a new series (forever wanting life is strange) as they can't even keep up with undertale. probably just another flash game. would love a gaming challenge video. We haven't had one of those for ages!

While I don't enjoy Kanyes' music and/or person, Dan has some connection to both, if after everything Kanye has said Dan is still a fan, then I think Dan has some personal reason to stan Kanye. In which case, he's going to stan until he doesn't want to anymore, or will just stop sharing it with us.

By the sounds of it the Uk are not going to have it "officially" for a while.
I don't know if they would be able to do a video until it is out officially in the UK. I know Alfie has been playing it in his Vlogs but that is not a full video.

I think it most likely will be slither.io. I guess I just wanted to see something different...but now that I think about it, they will probably stick to easy-to-film games until tatinof is completely over. At least, I hope that when they return home for good, they're able to take more "risks" and play some more exciting games.

Remember when their rationale as to why they created a gaming channel included that they played video games all the time anyway and they may as well film it? Heh. I can't blame them for wanting to wholeheartedly enjoy something on their own rather than playing it to be entertaining for an audience, but I can't help but side-eye them for the games they are willing to film for us.

TBH, the could play Nokia Snake and I'd be excited for it. I just want a video. I enjoyed a lot of their #spons, agar.io was fun so why not it's little bro, I mean really, anything, just gimme content, all da content. Dil was a joy, but has not dulled my sense of abandonement & I'll need to be treated to several videos a week for a while now, plus liveshows. (Soo excited for Dan's! Really curious if they watched all those on tour shows together, so hopefully someone asks him/he talks about that.)

I wrote a huge thing about Dan and the Kanye tweet but lost it because I was trying to work out how to hide it because it was so big, but my brief recap is to me it looked more like he found the video interesting rather than enjoyed it and perhaps didn't realise his tweet may look like an endorsement? I found the video incredibly intrusive and uncomfortable, but it did make me think a bit about the effects of fame and the repercussions that come with it in that people can use your image in whatever way they want almost and once it's out there on the internet it's very hard to do anything about it because of the 'Streisand effect'. Its a shame that the method Kanye used was so problematic and so very, very intrusive, the lack of consent to use the images was disturbing but also I guess one of the points of the video? I wish he'd found a different method because I did find it thought provoking but the message I chose to derive from it was ruined for me by the method in which he chose to express it.

I agree with all of this. The way Kanye delivered the message was problematic, offensive and morally questionable, but that doesn't mean it isn't artistic or that there wasn't a damn good message behind the video not the song which is shit. That society's obsession with celebrity is so invasive as to leave them with no privacy, that we'd even watch them sleep, that they are 'naked' to us - we can see everything about them and their lives and they have no choice and are sometimes not aware that it's happening, that the rich and powerful are all in bed together - in the same situation and potentially in the same network. I would have thought some of these points would be particularly pertinent to Dan who struggles with a sometimes obsessive fanbase who do leave him no privacy, who are interested in every aspect of his life. To me, it's a message in itself that he's saying he finds resonance with Kanye's video. I'm not famous, so I can't understand what it's like - if Dan who is famous thinks there is some value in Kanye's portrayal of what's it's like then who am I to deny or criticise this expression?
I do, however, as a Swiftie (yes I am a twenty-something Swiftie so shoot me) hope Taylor sues Kanye ass because that shit's not on.
Dan has not done or said anything problematic in my opinion. He has not tweeted 'there is nothing wrong with using graphic images of women without their consent', he has tweeted 'this video has an artistic message about fame and how it leaves you no privacy which I find resonance with'.

Phil has done and said plenty of problematic stuff in his lifetime (just like every person ever) and you're seemingly perfectly able to ignore that? Dan stans Kanye, Phil is a Joss Whedon fanboy.

You might be right there, in Jack and marks videos the bot was quite glitchy and they both got mildly frustrated with it and I suspect the only reason they uploaded the vid is because they're friends with felix.

Late to comment, the Sims video was alright, and I missed DAPG a lot. Thanks for the timestamps, going to rewatch cute moments. Not my favourite of the Sims series though. They were hyperaware of each reaction they gave and that ruined the fun a bit. There’s one moment when Dan moves in Phil’s direction a bit so it looks like they are leaning into each other and Phil notices and instantly moves away with a telling smile (closer to end, after the proposal I think, can’t look up the timestamp rn).

I wish were just curious to explore all crazy/supernatural/stupid/funny things the game has to offer and laughed at the outcome. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t feel particularly attached to Dil or Tabitha and I’m flinching a bit when they keep fondly referring to Dil’s past “actions” or character traits. Why do they need to perfectly and responsibly roleplay Dil’s life and want him to be a “successful” human, it’s a game, relax and let him have alien babies or something. Yes, Dil is part of their branding now, but still.

Idk what happened, but my excitement for new videos has decreased a lot. Like, this engagement video seems like a big deal, but in fact it was an ordinary video, just seems more exciting after a long break and because of the title.

Also as much as I try I can’t see extra campness in Dan in this video, I feel like he’s very clearly acting it out, it doesn’t feel inherent.

I'm not sure that I saw them as hyperaware of each other. They did this funny thing where they kept a running monologue basically taking turns talking (idk if i'm explaining this well, but they just seemed like they have been spending a lot of time together. They were basically finishing each other's sentences).
I really appreciated how it seemed like Phil kind of acknowledged Dan more in this video? A lot of the time he doesn't really look at Dan or respond to things that Dan does, but in this video he directed comments at Dan. Ex: 'Where did your eye go?' and 'You used to climb up there a lot'. I found that enjoyable- it felt like it showed their relationship more.
I actually totally agree about not caring much for the Sims characters. I too find it awkward when they act like we should care about these Sims (like when Dan used to say 'we care about his life more than our own!). That didn't bother me this video. It just felt like a nice balance to me.

Also the whole proposal situation was very funny to me in relation to Phan. It really had me wondering about their relationship. Its like, has one of them proposed so they know what they are talking about? Has neither of them proposed, they are in a relationship, and they are just chill about joking about hypothetical proposals? Are they totally not in a relationship?
