Aww look it's Dan's first breakup.

"I was so awful for ages", someone give that boy a hug.

(Phil's first breakup for comparison)

I agree with spaceguitar that I enjoyed Phil interacting with Dan and the overall banter in this episode was really nice.

Also agree with everyone else who said that they were happy D&P didn't complain about being painfully single the whole time. That didn't occur to me while I was watching it but now that you've brought it up, I am super duper relieved.

I don't care much about the sims characters either. In fact, I'm forever bitter about Dil being straight. But that's just me being annoyed that they're conforming. Not surprised at all. I mean, literally didn't expect Dil to be gay by any means. Whatever I'll stop talking now.

re: who would propose

disclaimer: I'm phan af, sorry if you're not, just ignore this if you're not! :)

I think they've been planning on staying together forever since the very beginning, so I don't think a formal proposal is warranted. Maybe one day while they're sitting on the couch or something, one of them will be like "hey you wanna get rings?" but that'd probably be the extent of it.

Is it weird for them to joke about proposals? They're so comfortable with each other maybe it's not strange for them but it feels strange. Has one of them proposed? Was it in Japan?

Maybe one of them really proposed in Japan. Maybe that's why Dan has been so Phil Trash #1 since last year and why Dan is dropping sexuality and phan hints like hot potatoes. Maybe 2015-16 Heart Eyes Howell is every time Dan looks at Phil and thinks 'that's my fiance'. And every time he looks at the camera like 'this guy' he means 'can you believe I said yes to this guy'. Hard not to feel romantic when you're recently engaged.

Agree that they've been planning on staying together forever plz :] < 3 since the beginning. Don't know about a formal proposal. On one hand they like traditions if their Christmas habits are any hint. On the other hand it's hard to imagine either of them on one knee with a ring. If I had to I would guess Phil would propose.

Can anyone timestamp some "campy" Dan on the latest Dil vid? I watched it, and I didn't notice Dan acting particularly "campy" - maybe I'm just used to Dan being Dan and that's normal on-camera behavior for him? IDK.

Anyway, I though the latest Dil video was a lot of fun. I'm not sure I like the lighting setup in the office - seems way too bright, but maybe they are wearing some makeup and need the light to be a bit hot. It does highlight the differences in their hair coloring, unless Dan is actually highlighting his hair

Agreed that I too find it hard to imagine one of them in one knee. I go more for the "mutual agreement after a conversation about it on a pizza night"

I really appreciated how it seemed like Phil kind of acknowledged Dan more in this video? A lot of the time he doesn't really look at Dan or respond to things that Dan does, but in this video he directed comments at Dan. Ex: 'Where did your eye go?' and 'You used to climb up there a lot'. I found that enjoyable- it felt like it showed their relationship more.
YAAAAS that was what made me so happy for this video, I was smiling all the way through.

This gave me life, I still have theories running around my mind and it's the next day. I just... the thing about planning marriages and everything made me so happy because it's something I don't think deppy from the past would have included in a video.
Also, someone mentioned about them not making "I'm so single" jokes and I'm too so f*cking relived about it, when I saw the title I had to get ready to take these jokes and I'm still thankful that none was made.

have you guys seen this? That's so early! idk bc I don't understand anything about these business but feels like it's early because there's still a month left until aus.

Same. I suppose, with a game like the Sims, proposals are nearly unavoidable considering the way they're playing the game: centered around Dil building financial stability, a relationship, and a family, while friendships, career, and hobbies take a backseat (Mmm hmm). But when you have them offhandedly saying shit like "When you want to propose, you're talking about spending a life together", you gotta wonder how much they apply that to their own lives. On the surface, it's like, well no shit, that's literally what a marriage proposal is... but D&P have already committed their lives to each other in many ways( *ahem* ... ), so if they were the types to marry, I feel like a proposal fits in with them as well.

Too lazy for timestamps, but the part where he's going off on Dil's date outfit from outside the restaurant was very ~dramatic. Otherwise, I've gotta agree, Dan is just generally campy on camera (and the camp intensities vary from video to video).

Have they even made any "Waaah I'm single" jokes throughout this entire series so far? They've been quick with the party/social life jokes or the working out at the gym jokes. But they hardly ever refer back to themselves when it comes to Dil's love life. Ngl I view that as pretty solid pro-phan evidence, and antiphans/non-believers can suck my big toe on that.

They are definitely the closest couple friends I've ever seen. Or maybe they've been planning it since like the vday vid when Dan got back from India in 2010. Maybe they were like "so want to get married someday?" (a little more formal but you know what I mean). And then last year in Japan Phil hid the ring somewhere or just flat out handed it to Dan and he starts hysterically crying.

The fact that they seem so relaxed for the future and are not like omg I'll never get married and have kids (especially Phil) or look like they're gonna move out tells me something.

There's a disagreement. Can't see them literally on one knee proposing but I don't think they're that casual. There is still romance. Do you remember this?

Maybe if there weren't those videos I too would think Deppy would say 'let's get married' while they sit on the couch but not after that.

Her prep work probably involves getting production orders in, figuring out quantities of things they'll need, etc - I'm just guessing?

I wonder if Lauren is working with them at all on this or if AKT is hands-off once they're outside of the US. Her twitter profile now involves danandphilshop, it didn't say that specifically before the tour. (But, also still lists the other events/shops her employer works with.)

On the engagement topic: I totally see them as the kind of couple who has worked for years on the assumption that they will end up married. That seems like it would make for the best kind of proposal setup too, like there won't be much fear of getting rejected. It's just... one of them taking a moment to plan something nice for the other.

I think it happened in Japan, though.

Joe sugg, Caspar Lee and Dan got 5 millio subs almost at the same time, now Joe has 7 million, Caspar 6.46 million and Dan 5.90 millions. That's the difference between having a stable uploading schedule vs uploading once a month (if so). I mean Dan has still the most intense fandom, but this is something that makes you think.

I agree with you, spider. I mean, I know Dan had referred to himself as counter culture, reverse circle jerk, whatever. I mean, I guess that's true in looking at his career choice (and possibly in the fact that they are the same gender?). But, as life partners go, these two are seemingly the soppiest traditionalists in the universe. Seriously.

I have a feeling that some serious life decisions were made immediately prior to signing on for the book/tour. That was a complete interweaving of their future careers, imo.

Eta: majitzu, you are right about the subs. It's too bad, really.

Sorry if this is offtopic now, (it wasn't when I started writing it- at work)...
One of the things that really made me think they were together was the very beginning of the Sims, when they decided to go with a combo of the two of them, as opposed to a Sim Dan and a Sim Phil. That would have been some dangerous ground, and I would bet my life that they knew that going into it. That they could not play as themselves for multiple reasons. Would their Sim counterpart be straight? Would their Sims couple with other Sims? Would they be roommates? They would have to be wouldn't they in order to play together? (I don't know how the game works as I never played but I assume that you can only run one household at a time.)

People would take so much from them playing as themselves that it wouldn't work. (has this been discussed, I wasn't there for the beginning of DIL) Could you imagine if they got girlfriends? The shitstorm!? People would count it as anit-phan proof/ no homo/ these are two definitely straight bros, etc. Or if they just stayed roommates in it? (Does the game 'force' you to have/want sex?) If that was the case that could cause some problems, as well. Or if they went out and got boyfriends, since in this version they seemed open to DIl getting one, it just didn't happen that way? People would take that as they are gay! Or Bi or whatever... tagging it as a "coming out" video even when it wouldn't be.

They didn't want to come out, but also didn't want to deny phan. This way they don't have to actually acknowledge it at all. This way is the most neutral way to play, yet so many people are more shippers because of being able to see how they interact with each other and also the game. They don't seem to actively hide it, but they don't come right out and say it either which is perfectly fine, and the only thing I would expect from them anyway. Why should they ever come out? There is absolutely no reason to come out to us (the audience) really. I mean besides helping us shippers finally realize our dream.... aside from that, I think it does more for them to stay in that closet, especially if they step of it every once and awhile and get some fresh air occasionally as they have been lately-mainly Dan….but ya know…. .

This is why I always find it odd when people suggest that Dan and Phil might have some kind of non-traditional relationship (friends with benefits, etc.) ...they seem to be very traditional people in that area of their lives. The way they have talked about getting married and wanting children in the past (separately) suggests that they are both pretty happy to follow the traditional trajectory of settling down with a nice person, buying a house and having a few kids. Unless they have privately changed their minds recently and have decided to become polyamorous swingers, I stand by the assumption that they either have a traditional relationship or are not together at all.

Also find it slightly funny that Dan would consider himself to be ''counter culture'' or whatever because he's pretty conventional in other areas of his life as well. Even though his career choice is somewhat unorthodox, the way that play the YouTube game is very conventional and safe.

Is it common for people to make themselves in The Sims though? I don't know/I haven't seen anyone who'd do that so I wouldn't expect this from Dan and Phil in the first place. Maybe it's just me. But you're right Winston, that'd be weird, no wonder they avoided it.
This doesn't make me any more convinced that they're a couple though, and same goes for the lack of complaining about being single during the playthrough. I think they just don't want any accidental drama, plus keeping things ambiguous is more beneficial to them. Jokes about having no social life and never exercising have somewhat became part of their branding, just as the mystery of their relationship did (whether they wanted it or not, idk). I'm not surprised they don't talk about their love life during Dils, they don't talk about it ever but it's no evidence imo. (I'm not interested in sucking anything though, tyvm manged. )

2. Kanye
3. "Really? REALLY. REALLY."
4. Pokemon Go
5. Compares self to animal
6. Calls himself a living flop
7. "kannst du nicht"
8. Says something catty, then takes it back and says he's only joking
9. Phil's eating habits
10. Transitions a story by staring at something off screen and humming to self

As far as tangible evidence: Dan's accidental tweet favorite, mostly. Seems like the misstep of someone who was giddy with unrealistic planning, maybe riding a post-proposal high.

Intangibly, the timing just seems... right. To solidify a commitment to each other and take some time between them to look forward past the immediate tailspin their life was about to delve into, to take that trip and figure out not just what the next step was but what the next step would lead to in the end.
