Have any of the Brits here heard of a BBC R4 program called "just a minute"? My mum used to listen to it when I was a kid and I think it's still on? Basically, the panel members are give a random subject to talk about and they have to just keep talking for 1 minute without pausing or repeating themselves. Apart from Dan's habit of saying "you know what I mean?" every 10 seconds I think he would do really well on that show.rizzo wrote:Also... the whole thing just reminded me how witty he is. Like, IDK, perhaps my inner Dan trash is just out in full force tonight, but I love when he answers questions quick-fire and always has the perfect reference, be it recent or old school internet. ...just, damn. I noted this in my TATINOF review (~*no spoilers*~), but I'm just consistently impressed with his quick-witted, on-the-spot responses to things, be it a serious question or a stupid joke.

Dan actually being relatable to me, right now. Same, Danny boy, same. (Every time I use the word relatable I imagine one of my Creative Writing professors is side-eyeing me from across the ocean. He hates, hates the world relatable. He doesn't think it's a real word.)

Yeah, same. It's kind of sad. I really wish they'd just upload more on their main channels, I know they're busy and all but if they did the fanbase would be much more involved. There will always be cringey Twitter fans who lap up anything but the rest of us need more real content.cora808 wrote:Honestly, over the last week we've gotten 2 liveshows, a React video, and a baking collab video, and the posts on IDB have been minimal at best. Hannah's animations hit the spot every time, I love how she interprets them.
Thanks for all the timestamps for the donut video, I'll have to crawl through that again to catch all the things. I watched Rosana's video on her own making cookies and I like her, also I aspire to bake that well so it's great to see how to make such fun things. It wasn't my favourite video of the boys, they were too obvious in their jokes, but it was fun.
I loved the liveshow too. Also a bit torn wanting him to rest, but as someone said, he might rather keep up with things. I was surprised by the doctor story, I wouldn't have imagined they don't just tell people what they do and have worked out a good way of explaining it by now. Doc might need to know he's been performing on stage for two months and about to do it again after a long journey. He's so prone to getting ill, I wonder what's up with that since Phil apparently doesn't. Stress, lack of vegetables or sunlight, none of the above He did fricking well in the Pokemon video not to let it show, I'd never have guessed.

Haha is wondered if he would tweet about this. I just went on an mcr binge watch.
And Hannah's animations are amazing! Her comedic timing tho, she must be a hoot to hang out with. When Dan throws the charmander and the squirtle, haha and the costumes. I mean this girl.... I see big things in her future.

This was amazing. Loved every second of this, she really is very talented.cora808 wrote:Living angel Hannah has created a new Animated D&P with the PGO vid and the Dan costumes are absolutely slaying me.
A lot of blogs I follow on Tumblr that used to exclusively post about Phan have now shifted their attention to other YouTubers or even completely different things like kpop or bandoms. And I feel like some other YouTubers have really risen in the last year while D&P are still kinda stuck in the same spot.cora808 wrote:Honestly, over the last week we've gotten 2 liveshows, a React video, and a baking collab video, and the posts on IDB have been minimal at best. I still feel like D&P relied on the dedication the phandom too much without giving a lot in return. For a year everything was about the book and then the tour, and for the USA part they just disconnected themselves from us completely (for another book). Of course people would lose interest. They won't really be feeling it in the numbers yet, but the dedication of the phandom is the true strength behind their brand and success. And now once dedicated people aren't as into them anymore as they used to be, with some moving on to other things. And if they don't work hard right now to pull those people back in, it might end up hurting them after all.
Has the collab with Rosanna actually done anything for their sub counts (on DINOF, AP and DAPG as all three were mentioned) at all? I have trouble with imagining a real overlap in target audience but maybe I'm wrong.
Late opinion on the baking collab: It feels weird to admit that Dan was the most annoying person in this video; Rosanna didn't bother me at all and he was just so awkward I can't even rewatch it, it's too much. Maybe after a few weeks.
But I loved the spider donuts, since it's a dairy-free recipe, I might actually try it
(probs with less coating though, looks like a sugar overload).
I didn't watch Dan's liveshow, I'll probably catch up on it tomorrow. It seems like an interesting one.
They haven't mentioned the second book yet, have they? I wonder when (and how) it will be officialy announced.

Their lack of content surely has had some effect but I don't think the inconsistent posting is completely to blame. Youtube is a young audience that is constantly maturing, growing, and growing out of old interests into new ones. Three or four years ago when Dan and Phil were skyrocketing they were displacing people who had been the top tier before them, they've had a few good years of riding a high and they'll continue to ride it but youtube is a bigger playing field now. The phandom is probably feeling a fresh wave of burnout from those people who've been around for a few years - but if you want proof that new fans are taking their place in multitudes just compare how many likes/retweets a Dan or Phil tweet gets now to how many they did a year ago, even.Catallena wrote:A lot of blogs I follow on Tumblr that used to exclusively post about Phan have now shifted their attention to other YouTubers or even completely different things like kpop or bandoms. Yeah, old big popular blogs might have lost interest in deppy, but they're not representative of phandom as a whole - just of their "generation" of phandom. Everything is not that bleak, I promise. This forum is also probably experiencing a mini version of the same thing. We've been around since March and I'm sure a lot of people who found it awesome and a fun shiny new thing have just burnt out on posting a lot or found somewhere new to gather to talk (like the skype chat, as someone mentioned). Doesn't mean conversation here isn't worthwhile, though!

Have to agree with both of you here. There was a time when I was all up in the posts on IDB and back over on the dark side before IDB. My posting and general interaction dropped off a cliff about half way through the tour when it became obvious I was waiting around for content/contact that basically wasn't happening. I realise there may be method to their madness there, but imo they really dropped a bollock and overestimated what they could get away with.Catallena wrote:A lot of blogs I follow on Tumblr that used to exclusively post about Phan have now shifted their attention to other YouTubers or even completely different things like kpop or bandoms. I think they've realised that though, hence their somewhat frenzied reassurances of how they're back to filming and loving it and blah blah blah (Phil mostly - I suspect Dan the cynic sees how transparent that is).
Anyway I thought deppy's vice-like grip on me had loosened almost to the point I could shake it off but nah. After a few videos and, very crucially, liveshows, I'm all the way back to my cosy spot deep inside their asses. Lovely.
I do think if they'd done one more month of ghosting us I'd have been out for good. I suspect many others were pushed past that limit already. You may be hailed like you're collectively Jesus himself Deppy but don't get it twisted... you're fallible along with the best of us. You best put a shift in now.
I wonder how biology can explain the physical pain you feel in your chest when all you want to do is talk shit on IDB

Agree with you and I think that the amount of views their last few videos have gotten proves that there are still plenty of people watching their videos, which is really what counts.alittledizzy wrote:Their lack of content surely has had some effect but I don't think the inconsistent posting is completely to blame. Yes! Same same same. I would literally cry if they got back together and toured haha!bedhead91 wrote: Dan actually being relatable to me, right now. Same, Danny boy, same. Regarding the posts on IDB, I do think that the lack of content had a small effect on the forum but tbh the threads still moved at a fairy quick pace, even if we did just complain for pages upon pages about the content drought. I don't think things have got bad on here, people still post their opinions and I'm still enjoying reading them. Maybe the Skype chat has probably stopped people posting their opinions directly on here but the exact same thing happened on the forum that shall not be named. New people will come along and start posting, it's always been pretty consistent. I hope people don't fully stop posting on here though, I love reading everyone's opinions.

I have felt a bit of emptiness from the Deppy world recently. While I enjoyed Dan's live show, it still doesn't feel like enough to sustain me. Maybe its a lack of posts here that gives me this feeling, or maybe its bc of how unorganized D+P are
I still think I'll stick around here for a while, at least until I find an exciting new fandom.

For idb I think that now that is not fresh news (remember how we were so excited) and the other means of communication ,like skype, are responsible for how now it's pretty slow.
Also the fact that deppy lost touch with the phandom during the usa tour made some people forget about them, life moves on, while they still have a huge audience they need a dedicated one for their merch, the tour and everything else... We also said that per se the phandom is what also attracts people, if some vip like dinofvyou1 leave it's going to slowly touch some of the audience, the casual viewer is not going to be the one that brings the money.
They need to put more effort in their channels and learn from their past experience.

I think that the content drought definitely deterred casual fans. When someone in my subscriptions box comes back from the dead, I usually don't watch. Nanalew is a great example.

Thanks eevee! I was afraid it was just me. I love British accents in general (I'm American - so stereotypical), and his in particular. But his accent during the live show was probably the most enjoyable I've heard (probably "accent" isn't entirely accurate, as I liked the "campiness" or whatever the correct word is here, too)eevee wrote:I need to rewatch the liveshow as there were things I wanted to talk about that weren't discussed haha. Like he sounded so "camp" or whatever the British word for that is...like the whole time ahha I was total trash about it.
