I wish Dan would stop with th furry jokes. It's becoming a part of his brand just like placenta and llamas did. If he's actually a furry he should probably keep it to himself- that's also the main reason why I don't think he is a furry. Idk I just don't find the joke funny, mostly just weird

Thirded. For me the likelihood of there being any truth to it and him actually being a furry is so remote. If the boy has no interest in disclosing his sexuality (and a one-liner about it in a diss track has us all fucked up) I seriously doubt he'd make jokes alluding to an actual fetish on the regs. And following that line of thought, the joke needs to die, because its just kind of cheap to take something which has a strong online presence and make it a running joke as part of your branding cos you're ~so internet~

Which has always been stupid to me, because where the fuck does he think punks (and other alternative subcultures) got their mohawks, piercings etc. from in the first place? If he really wants to talk about cultural appropriation. Dan will occasionally make these succinct, socially conscious statements, but the sentiment usually stops short of addressing the root of it. Like I'm still irked by his BlackLivesMatter vs AllLivesMatter explanation on Younow. Yeah yeah there's only so much he can say in 5 to 30 seconds, and sure, he's never claimed to be an expert, and I guess he means well, but lord... when you can tell he's just throwing around terms and blurbs he read on tumblr, and he says it so matter-of-factly? Sorry to disagree, but I can't see any issue whatsoever with his socially conscious statements? He may or may not be 100% accurate, sure, but a) I don't think many of us here have a PhD in social justice / history / the absolute truth and rightfulness in our twenties, and b) the complete opposite, which is him not saying anything at all, would be unbearably self absorbed.
To me the furry thing seems like a huge metaphor (or analogy? I'm not very good with language) for his sexuality and/or his relationship with Phil (or even other things maybe). Especially after his Diss Track. Like this way he can "address" his ambiguity or elephant in the room without actually having to. An also by mentioning something that's 'out there' (not that it necessarily is, but you know) he can misdirect attention too.
Or, he does it to seem quirky and - so internet - like Lurktacularr said. Or both.
This is not a response anyone bothered by him using this as a joke. Because I can understand being bothered by it.

The thing with furry 'proof' (and I know nobody's being deadly serious using that term, dw) is that surely its so subjective? I bet half the confusion for us is that none of us (that I'm aware of) have much experience with furridom and so would struggle to tell the difference between what may point to him actually being a furry, and what's no different to me dressing up as a dalmatian last halloween.
On an aside, have we got any thoughts on whether Dan's accompanied Phil to IoM? My first read of his tweet was that Dan was there ("we're working on") but I suppose they could be doing that from different locations.

You can tell by his tone, or just generally by how absurd those statements are. Way I see it he's being knowingly ridiculous, in order to low-key make fun of the kind of people who are quick to yell "cultural appropriation!!!" even in cases when it isn't really applicable (few punks or lads cry themselves to sleep over other people trying out their style; lad appropriation is not a thing).
Want another example of Dan rolling his eyes over stupid claims of cultural appropriation, try his diss track from less than a week ago:
