Jesus its been so long since we discussed it I barely remember how we reached this conclusion, but was the general consensus not that they'd be coming back this year? I think it was. Reasoning including them being daft to walk away from the BBC (and knowing it), the way they spoke about it in liveshows and things the BBC tweeted... I think?? If anyone has a better memory than me, its your time to shine.

Hahahaaa god I forgot how much I love dinofvyou1's editing.

PSA yeah sorry I didn't think of the fact its a sunday night when I wrote that so massive soz to anyone I may have confused given it would usually have been their slot tomorrow. I'd just forgotten about the radio show's whole existence and remembering made me super excited (and hopeful) for its return :D

BBC Press release about the Uni radio thing that immediately replaced Internet Takeover said " would be remaining part of the Radio1 family"

Speaking of, that must be over soon. *tootles over to BBC website*

I thought where he went wrong was supposing that all people who say #ALM have just misunderstood BLM. There's of course s deeper conflict concerning privilege
I mean yeah basically. He left it off at people missing the implicit "too", didn't he? I'd say that's the case for many who use ALM, but ALM is also used to silence the BLM movement. And the fact that there needs to be an implicit "too" for many people to understand it, because they can't simply stand for black lives is an issue in itself, but I won't place that on Dan.
It's always the thing with Dan, isn't it? Same shit happened when Caitlyn Jenner came out as transgender and her trash ex-son in law (or something like that) misgendered her on purpose and Dan said in a ls that the guy probably didn't mean anything bad, but since he knew her as a man, he just had trouble adapting to the new situation. Like, um, yeah sure Dan,whatever you say.
I can't tell if that's Dan being too scared of giving a firm opinion and thus staying on middle ground as a safety measure or how he actually is,which if that's the case, makes me like him less.

As someone who claims to love reflecting about the meaning of the universe and humanity he has to know that some peope are just vicious. It's not about misunderstanding, it's about hate and self-entitlement as priviledged members of society. There is no need to always play devil's advocate because that's not a good look. I'd honestly prefered if, just like Phil, he'd abstain of giving his opinion if it's only ever half-assed.
The thing is, because Dan is just that bit more open about his opinions than Phil, as a fandom we expect him to speak his mind on a huge range of topics. He must feel an enormous amount of pressure to say the 'right thing' but also offer an educated opinion. So really, can you blame him for wanting to stay on some sort of middle ground? Giving any sort of strong opinion means thousands of fans jumping down his throat, and that would terrify me if I were him. He has a huge influence on his audience and I'm sure he's well aware of that; as a result, he must be wary of being opinionated publicly. Playing it safe when it comes to politics and society is probably a smart move for his career, and he knows that people would hold a 'wrong' opinion against him.
Or maybe he doesn't like to judge people based on incomplete information or assumptions. He did say he doesn't like uneducated opinions.
It's very possible that he didn't have all the facts about Caitlyn's son (neither do i, so i don't know if there was proof that he mislabeled her on purpose) and therefore didn't want to judge.
I do agree that in his BLM talk he could have added that a big number of people tweeting/saying ALM are just racists. That's a fact.
I disagree that empathy or giving people the benefit of the doubt is bad. As someone in this forum wrote a while ago, a lack of empathy will be the end of this world (i'm heavily paraphrasing, sorry to whoever said this).

And i absolutely LOVE that clip where everything goes wrong

I think it's just that he's trying SO hard to keep it together, then loses it spectacularly while Phil's just absorbed in whatever he's saying/doing as if nothing out of the ordinary is happening...

Either he's just off in his own little world, or he's at Troll Level 9000, and I'm not sure which I'd rather...!

I've always thought Phil's weirdness comes naturally, but then he plays up to it to make Dan laugh.

Its something I find really cute about them actually - the way Phil does something to make Dan laugh and then starts laughing himself when Dan cracks.

Prime example:

16:32
Phil: those are some erect eyes
Dan: phil!... *genuine wheezy laughter*
Phil: look at that *laughs at Dan laughing*

I hadn't seen either of those radio clips before. Poor Jasmine, but that was pretty funny. The things Phil comes out with and how he tells them sometimes are just golden. Except for the bants (which is part of what we're for so no small thing), there's not really a need to make it weird with the way Dan reacts, it gets wearing having things get called out for being weird all the time, but Phil's probably playing up to it more than we realise. Still, owning your weirdness isn't necessary if people aren't such small-minded cretins that so many things are labelled weird.

It's understandable Dan tries to cover the bases. He spent 30 hours on that video one time researching and making sure he put across what he was trying to say, so being put on the spot in a liveshow doesn't give him much time to think even if it's something he's aware of due to being in the news. I used find it quite hard to express firm opinions on many things if I don't know much about them. I'd say what I thought based on what I did know but add "but I don't know much about it" and I've wondered how that's really perceived, be it ignorance, wishy-washyness or what. It comes from fear of confrontation and I've finally got too fed up of holding myself back with worrying that I've felt able to speak up more, but I'm ten years older than Dan and don't have thousands of kids looking up to me.

The way Phil spoke more assertively near the beginning of the react video was great to hear. I saw a clip of him from Vidcon today, having forgotten what they said except for finishing arguments with Hello Internet, but that reminded me again of how good it is to hear Phil go deeper than pancake and plant jokes. It's a shame it's so rare to hear him talk much or more deeply that we're so pleasantly surprised. I love his AP storytelling style, like Dan's sarcastic shtick it's very funny, but with Phil keeping quieter and Dan keeping us all guessing with jokey self-deprecation, neither of them really does themselves justice (I've felt that for ages about Phil in the cat whisker poster too, his eye tricks in context with the rest of his content are great, but alone and to anyone new it's such a strong image of him as the oddball to the cutiepie [that's the cutest photo of Dan I've ever seen anyway).

Whilst we are talking about radio shows, does anyone remember a radio show where Phil threatened to call the police or the army if Dan played Allstar again?

You guys are making me miss the radio show so much damn. That clip of Jasmine messing up is still so funny. Not to mention the fucking cow days. Quality content.

Fuck I hope so.

Can they do it weekly again pretty plz with a cherry on top? Like I used to be like 'Ugh the radio is cool but it takes up time they could spend on YouTube' (also their excuse a few times) but they're gonna be shit at that no matter what so as I'm less and less interested in their solo videos, I want weekly radio shows back. THANKS.

So the tall bastards are in iom (or one is anyway) while I'm in London. How rude. jk but anyway Dan's Twitter silence definitely makes me think he's with Phil. Travelling a long ass distance to meet your best friend's family is always a normal thing bro thing to do.

im slightly alarmed at how I remember all these little Dan and Phil moments. But I guess that means I'm just extreme

Dan, and to an extent, Phil seemed a little vague here obviously because they don't want to say anything too controversial. I thought what Dan was saying was still important and I actually like Dan saying Trump is a spicy meme right now. It sounds ridiculous but it's true, Trump being a meme is an important part of his political presence. However, Dan's opinions seemed downright bland and uninformed next to Thomas Sanders who spoke really well and passionately about the topics and actually expressed fully formed opinions. But to be fair to Dan and Phil this is a video that isn't about their own home country's politics so I can forgive them for not being informed and only have the meme version of Trump to comment on.

Props to Phil for at least trying to comment on a political video. At one point he seemed truly flabbergasted by the whole thing.

Hmm I'm leaning towards Dan being in London in his usual editing-related silence. Going off of Phil's tweet, I think if Dan was with him he would have worded it differently. "I'm in the northlands but we're working on an undertale vid" - if they were both in IoM, and wanted to hide it, he would have removed any room for speculation by taking the 'we' out like "I'm in the northlands but expect an undertale vid tomorrow!' or something. Although maybe that's putting too much thought into things and they don't care so much these days.. If they are both there maybe someone will spot them on the way back (they would need to be back by Tues for Dan's liveshow after all).

Also in a liveshow before the tour (or was it the last radio show itself), Dan mentioned the radio show and something about September so people are expecting it to come back then. People meaning me.

edit: expecting them* to come back, they've all said Internet Takeover is dead, so will it be a new weekly show again? I HOPE SO
will my dreams be crushed? probs, but until then I will dream anyway

I am inclined to think Dan actually is with Phil just because usually when one of them is there alone we get some prime emo/HOME ALONE tweets. But it definitely has me curious to see if/how Dan addresses it on his liveshow. Maybe he'll totally haru IoM all together and only talk about the iTunes song (is that still up, btw?) and the Undertale video that will have just come out the day before.

Honestly it could go either way, so I'm excited for the liveshow. Maybe he'll be as casual about it as the BBQ, that'd be nice. Maybe when he tweeted the cereal thing they were already gone and throwing us off their schedule because apart from the congrats to PJ they've been pretty dead..

They better not wait all fucking day to post that Undertale though. It's literally been 84 years and I don't remember anything.

What if Phil actually asked to be cut out when he gives opinions like this
Haha. That is such a Phil thing to do, but I don't think so, he won't be on youtubers react if he doesn't want himself to be recorded, I think.

Nothing is happening so I'll show you one of my favourite radio moments.
First thing first, I love Jameela.
So you may have not watched this vídeo before but everybody has seen the gif or Dan almost touching Phil's knee... and I have always thought Dan was just saying Jameela to calm down. Interpret that as you want. So... the guys miss the album chart and poor J has to do it herself and when they came back they give 3 excuses. Wtf were they doing? We will never know.
