Thoughts on Dan and Phil being (seemingly) incapable to maintain their public friendships?

I kinda think it's a mixture of laziness and an unwillingness to be 'used' by people. They go for collabs when they want filler on their own channel and it suits them but I can't even imagine, for example, them letting PJ use them to climb the youtube ladder like he's using Felix right now. And especially with youtubers, that might breed some bitterness.

But I also think with a lot of youtubers the friendships are more like professional acquaintances. They're like people in an office; they've got the co-workers they like best and don't mind having a drink with after work once in a while but they're not exactly going around to each other's houses for casual chill time every weekend.

Maybe a lot of it comes down to how secretive they seem to be of their private life and not trusting a lot of youtubers not to vlog something without asking them or otherwise share something they didn't give permission? On the flip side, it's hard to be friends with someone when you can't just live life and you have to look over your shoulder at every turn to make sure you don't upset D&P online. Perhaps they prefer to hang out with people privately and don't document it for that reason? Maybe they have some non-youtuber friends we have no idea about? hmmmm

I don't think either of them are as friendly with other youtubers as some phans like to think. For one, they do appear to be in a world of their own and except marginally few youtubers into their channels for their worthy collabs. Additionally they have completely closed off anything personal about themselves and any friendships they have off of YouTube is kept strictly confidential and they strictly divide their personal relationships with their business relationships (online),

I believe that the decrease of interaction between them and older YouTuber's (PJ is a prime example) is a fine example of how the divide between the content and audience has grown wider for them that online interaction is kept to a minimum and any personal interaction (god-forbid) is a strict no-no.

Given deppy's audience and anti-social behavior online, eliciting a response from them online is a great achievement and PJ is one of the few that can achieve this on a regular basis (monthly, I suppose)

I think it's kinda depressing, I'm not a big fan of "youtube groups" but I wish we had more than a simple collab every once in a while, like Louise has accomplished a lot filming so many videos with them in a short amount of time, and occasionally PJ but nothing more, I really love it when they collab but if they are not comfortable in any way with that I preffer they don't do it. I mean I dream of them having a gaming collab with Markiplier or Jacksepticeye, but I know it is very unlikely, but like I said, a girl can dream.

Yeah, if their friendship is good enough for them to see each other 24/7 and not get bored, there's no reason for them to hang out with someone else if they don't want to.

Ouuuch drag him. But I have an urge to defend him (though it did make me laugh) because I get the sense that PJ just doesn't care so much about keeping things so private. Did it occur to him that pewdiepie collabs would bring more subscribers? Obviously. But I really think that if PJ lived close to D&P (as he does with Felix) they'd be on each other's channels more (well maybe not on Dan's unless it was a 'great' idea..), but I don't think he's some kind of leech. He's just doing whatever in between getting bigger projects off the ground, and he and Felix have been friends for quite awhile at this point (I mean they all took a trip to Japan together). The bulk of their recent collabs have just been Pokemon Go-related which seems pretty organic.

Anyway Ticia, who specifically are you thinking of? Because I agree with the office colleagues analogy when it comes to other YTers, their actual friendships (wirrow/Bryony and that Ian guy) we really don't hear much about because they get swept into the D&P actual-private-life-shield which is almost a brick wall. Who knows how many other people they've got stashed in there. Also they've been insanely busy this entire year, keeping up appearances on Twitter or whatever you may be thinking of is definitely low-priority right now, but it'll be interesting to see their efforts in 2017 if YT becomes their main concern again(?).

No, he's said he's never watched any of their stuff because he's outside of their demographic but he respects them for the success they've had on YT and seem like great guys. He did express some very small frustration around the time of YGS100 that they never responded to his attempts at contacting them to see if they'd be in it (even if it was to say no) but imo the main annoyance was probably how much other people were hounding him to get them. But he's never said anything bad about them that I've seen.

Thank you (and everyone else that replied) for clearing that up! I remember watching a video (liveshow?) where he said that he didn't know Dan and Phil, he asked what they did and someone in the chat replied "they're vloggers" and he said "oh, that's why I don't know them" in a rather condescending tone, but I didn't know about the other stuff you said, so that's why I had the wrong idea.

I know right? He even got Felix in it (and jacksepticeye if I'm remembering it right..)! It just goes back to D&P being pretty anti-social, but oh well. I really think they'd get along if they met, him and Dan have memes in common at least.

Well, Dan mentioned before that they missed Shane's invitation for a collab because Phil either accidentally deleted the email or the invitation got lost in his mailbox. Please correct me if I am wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case with Jack's YGS invite.

Louise doesn't have more subscribers than him and she also doesn't get a lot of views these days, yet she's been on his main channel twice and also on DINI twice.
I'd like to know how he chooses his collabs, but i don't think it's the number of subs

As a fan it's sad for me that they don't interact much with other people online, but i also understand and would probably do the same in their position.

Another reason why D&P keep their non-YouTube friendships under wraps is to protect them (the friends) from over zealous detective work from the Phandom? LBH, give the Phandom a thread about D&P's private life and they'll be pulling that string until they unravel the mystery.
