I'm so behind, I have no idea what's been said so I'm sorry if this is out of place but I have something v. important to say:
Dan is free, he has abandoned gender norms and I am alive. I am LIVING.

I am LIVING DEAD.

me

Please put this twitter post on my gravestone, k thanks

I am so proud and happy for him, just so proud and happy and ugh

Yeah I'm not surprised that he didn't keep it on.

Also I just can’t understand how someone wearing nail polish is breaking gender roles and whatever, certainly not in 2016. Like lots of famous people have been wearing nail polish for a while now, so I don’t see why this is so special.

What the hell is this dude wearing...
Image@laniefalls.tumblr
I'm not agreeing on his fashion sense latley but I really don't mind the nails though, it suits him. Didn't think I would be a fan of nail polish on Dan but here I am, although I'm not a fan of forcing him to do it. Given that nailpolish on dudes has become a sort of trend and aesthetic appeal, I would not debut he would eventually paint them by his own will... or he is damn too lazy and wish he done it when it was "cool". But yeah I hope he will redo them another time in life, maybe when he is bored and he finds the bottle laying around... and then later forget to or once again too lazy to remove it

About the bad posture: Urg it's "irk" me that both of them are hunching their backs like that, seems like they are used to it by now... poor backs They do say you adapt to the other persons habits once you start living with them. And Dan took Phil's bad habit of hunching for sure.... or Dan just adapt to it as he grew taller.
Do any of you know whatever Martin hunch his back or no? hahah I'm too invested of this back hunching thing lmao

Is it just me that thinks this whole nail polish event could be to detract from the bedroom speculation? Or maybe I've been on this rollercoaster for so long that it's turned me into a hardened marketing mogul

That being said, g'wan lad. Paint your nails. Hug your Haru Pillow. Tell your past self to do one.

Silently hoping that Phil might do his in a nice pastel. Maybe lilac. He's got such lovely hands! These boys play me like a fiddle but I'm always here for people subverting gender expectations (and I think it does achieve that, and will do until the day men can do it without it being commented on or mocked, which might not happen in the circles we move in but is very much the reality for the majority)

I am absolutely living for his outfit today!!! I love it above and beyond any nail color drama. I had high hopes that Dan would try the Givenchy skirt trend for the Brits (though he certainly gets points for going out of his usual comfort zone). I think he has the perfect body type for this look. Mitch Grassi rocks the look well, but he's so small that he gets swallowed in the clothes at times. Dan shouldn't have that problem, of course!

How are they screwing with us though?

All they've done since after 2009/10 is deny phan. They call themselves besties and roommates and when asked directly they deny. They've just stopped offering that info when unwanted, possibly because the phandom didn't believe it and sometimes reacted hostile.

Anything they've done since then is only interpreted as flirtatious or "couply" by you. Just because you perceive it as that doesn't mean it's intended by them.
Okay, sorry, probably should have explained what I meant.
(Under the cut because it's quasi-off-topic)
I agree with the whole "anything they've done since then is only interpreted as flirtatious or 'couply'" thing. Pretty much everything they do platonic, but can be perceived as them being a couple. (I don't think it necessarily should though.) And D&P know there are people who are going to view things they do as "phan proof/couply". But I don't think they care. But when they do stuff like the room thing, which obviously and intentionally sends the message "Hey, look at us! We're not together!" it makes it seem like they do care. So I don't know what to think. Do they care if people think they're together? Do they not? If they do, why? When I said "screwing with us", I just meant they seem to send mixed signals on the "do they or do they not care about people thinking they're actually dating" front.
akui wrote:On the other hand, the nail polish thing, he's always been ambiguous about and showed no enthusiasm at all, he said in liveshow he might do it but he doesn't have the remover, which to me sounds kinda reluctant. But whether he did it cuz he's actually willing to or do it to please fans, under a sea of fangirl's demand still makes me very uncomfortable, maybe cuz i'm a hippie and see him as conformist, or maybe because the demand itself is very questionable at the first place.

Also i think the reason he painted it just because he's annoyed not only ppl annoy him online but also annoy him irl especially stalker chase him to the airport to give him a fucking nail polish, he just wanted to get it over with.

I'm so glad I'm not alone in mentally comparing Dan to Mitch Grassi. I feel like they're both going for the same look - Mitch perhaps a bit more extreme, but Mitch also doesn't have the overly-analytical and overwhelming audience Dan does.

I agree with you in that I love that he's going for this look. It may be a little strange, but he's tall and usually lanky and it'll work on him once he gets a hang of it. Give me all the layers and too-big sweaters and collarbones and just.... yas, Dan. SLAY!

idk about anyone else but I'm not sure if I'm horrified or delighted by that outfit. It seems to have been pulled out of a fanfiction hell but tbh he looks good, he pulls it off well and while it's not exactly a dress and more a tunic I'm sure a lot of phans on the dress bandwagon are satiated. I was never one for wanting either of them to do the nail varnish thing but ngl I woke up, saw the meet and greet pictures, thought I was dreaming then immediately burst into tears of wonderment and disbelief.
The mad lad. He actually did it.

This is just my personal opinion, but I think it's the combination of Dan painting his nails

+ the comments he's made in the past about not wanting to paint his nails because he's not comfortable enough to do it

+ him starting to be more confident about leaving his hair naturally curly which has always been such a big insecure spot for him.

All this makes me think that he's choosing to dress in a more free way, and is more self-accepting and confident in general. I think when you have a particular status as 'cute male YouTuber that girls find attractive' (I recognize that this is a trope not accurate etc), and you start breaking gender norms - even small ones like liking painting your nails, or wearing a jumper-dress-thing, it is inherently progressive. It normalizes subverting gender norms.

VIVA LA REVOLUTION

If he doesn't want to do it again, great, he shouldn't - he is free - he can do it again if he wants or not do it again if he doesn't want. He can put it on, take it off, even though he's a bloke. Freedom, how beautiful :')
I don't think people should pressure him to do it again though. No body should ever pressure anybody about what they should and shouldn't do with their own fashion choices.

Sorry if this post makes no sense, I am living dead and it's hard to think.

I am personally not into that whole nail polish + ugly long satanist sweater look Dan is going for in that meet and greet. But you do you Dan.
Idk and don't care why he wore that nail polish, be it trying it because he was curious, found it was funny, wanted to please the fandom, found it looked good, wanted to "break gender norms" but I sure hope it will now stop people twitting about it in caps lock constantly.
I haven't posted on here in ages and just caught up with the last two threads so my irrelevant opinions on the videos : I loved the pokemon go and I loved the DITL (they gave me all the feels, fond Dan and Phil are honestly my biggest weakness, also whiney Dan ) i even kinda liked the ISG!! i knw

Now for #importantinfo. I was talking to a very tall fan who met them at M&G and asked her about Dan's size (because I am always here for what is the mystery of Dan's true size and also because I apparently like irrelevant facts). here is her answer: Image
So It means Dan would be 1m96 or 97 which equals 6.43feets or 6.46feets!!
If you’re attracted to somebody, you’ll want them to sniff you eventually - Dan
*Phil is turned on by Dan's brilliance* *they kiss* *they have sex in the microwave* - Oqua (actually Phil)

Dan has been more and more confident with his body lately to try new things (which all suit him). I saw a post on Tumblr, basically said "getPhilpainthisnails" and i sort of cringed? I don't see Phil doing this anytime soon, if not ever. I don't know, but for me, he seems less confident about himself than Dan? In almost all the selfies in the M&Gs (except the ones with weird/funny pose of course), he never smiles widely, always shutting his lips tight. He doesn't dare to try new hairstyle (*cough* quiff), too (unlike Dan, who's keeping his hobbit hair more often these days). Not to mention the fact that despite being a thousand more famous now than in 2008, he hasn't moved on from Topman and chosen something more than average-priced clothes. I feel like he's scared of getting rid of the familiar things and doesn't want to risk changing himself, even though it's the good change? Maybe it has something to do with his age? or is it the way he was brought up, surrounded in a big loving family?

I've noticed this too, but I've always thought it was just Phil being Phil. He doesn't like change. For example, he's had his profile picture for like 8 years. So I just think that he likes his style. He's also not into "breaking stereotypes" like Dan. I think he just doesn't like nail polish.

Yasss! I definitely think they admire the same designers. I love the transformation Mitch has undergone over the last few years, and only hope Dan gets half as comfortable in his own skin.
Dan vs Mitch: well, Mitch is the only one I have paid money to see perform. And it was soooooo worth it!!!!

I didn't really care about the nail polish thing before, but now for every comment side-eyeing it, I want him to add another bottle to his collection. Honestly if he can't make his own decisions and only gives into viewer pressure, can we all start pressuring him to put some earrings back in? Clearly we can make this happen since we control his actions now, right? Orrr maybe he just does what he wants and it's Not That Deep.

I'm really interested in the fact that he waited until he was in Australia to start testing things out. I wonder if the sense of distance from home gave him a little breathing room to feel more comfortable changing up his look. Kind of like an 'excuse' - 'oh Hong Kong is pretty humid look at my hair heh maybe I should keep it unstraightened..?' Good for him, it's got to be difficult changing things (even 'little' things by some peoples standards) when you're under such a microscope (even if it's an overwhelmingly supportive micrsoscope) and you overthink everything. I'm happy for him, whatever he decides to do with his nails/hair/misc in the future.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

Huh, I think Phil is pretty confident in himself and with his style. It may be not be very exciting, but it seems to work for him so I don't see why he would change that.
Also if I were rich I would still buy my clothes from relatively cheap brands, because I don't care about designer clothes. Maybe Phil is the same way.

First I have a dirty mind but while I think he may have had thick sole shoes still he is tall for sure, would take 1cm out but we are close to the truth.

HauntedEmma I think he is both someone that isn't confortable with change and at the same time he goes for what usually works, you could say that he is not "brave" but I think of him as someone that doesn't like to change something if it worked before or doesn't feel the need to. Different kind of people, like some like to change their hair colour every month and some don't see the point of it.

What a great info I know we've talked jokingly about wanting to take a measuring tape to m&g to know how tall they are but this is as accurate as it can be right now. Relatively, does she know how tall is Phil?

a haters opinions on nails and hair  i know you all wanted it... ;)

THE NAILS
considering dan has never shown any interest in painting his nail not even after he actually did it

1.would dan ever paint his nails if it wasnt for the phandom spamming him? NO
2.would dan ever kiss phil in a ls because the phandom is spamming him? NO
3.does painting his nails means anything to dan? other than pleasing the phandom? NO
4.does dan having sth to gain and nothing to losefrom this? views, likes, people idolizing him? YES

poor dan he was forced to do it he didnt want to..bad phandom. (dismissed. see reasons 2,4)
he has the confidence to be himself. breaking gender norms  .(dismissed. see reasons 1,3)

bullshit...its not that deep. it is just good old fanservice

THE HAIR
dan himslef posted only one photo of his not curly only slightly wavy hair and called it in the caption "natural"(look at a photo of him with curls and this selfie..lol.. that aint natural). It was obvious that he spent time not only posing for the perfect angle but also styling his curly hair in perfect waves. What does this mean? Its also obvious that his haircut for the Australian tour doesnt really work well. No hair-hate, i swear. His hair is too short and he most likely cant style it like he used to. Even in recent photos with his hair straightened you can see its always a mess and it doesnt sit right. Maybe he was "forced" to stop straightening it.

Maybe we got it all wrong and need to start feeling sorry for dan because he cant really do his hair

great timing

Re: Dan's height. I'm calling BS on the 6'-4"+ height. Maybe he *seems* that tall at times, depending on his footwear, and the stature of the people around him at a particular moment. He didn't look to be that tall at the show I attended. Anyway, the D&P shop still describes him as 6'-2." That's a pretty important stat and needs to be accurate so people can determine the proper size to buy (and minimize returns / exchanges.) If it's wrong, Martin needs to get off his ass and fix it - he's had plenty of time to do so.
