I've grown a bit tired of soulmate au's, but this one was good: Downpour (Can't You Hear Me Calling Your Name?) by KittyCatriona.

This is a kinda long one; intense, but with a happy ending. Pay attention to the archive warnings (there is also depression and attempted suicide). I don't think it's really in character and it reads more like original fiction than a phanfic to me, but I really liked it.

His friends and family think he's acting strange, they're worried that he's depressed again, but Dan doesn't see it. The only thing he sees is the new guy at school, the quirky one with the black hair and stunning blue eyes, and that's bad. So bad... because he likes him, and Dan can't like him. Dan can't be gay. He'll lose his family, he'll lose his friends... he'll become just like his father, and that's the last thing that he wants in the entire world. It's a scary thought that he doesn't think will ever go away and if there's the possibility of that happening, of him becoming the disgusting monster that his father was, or is, then maybe the world is better off without him, regardless of what PJ's dad, his mum's new husband, has to say.

This isn't a phanfiction rec, but I don't really know where else to ask. What do you guys think the first ever "phanfic" was? The earliest i've read was dated back to 2011 and I haven't done a lot of digging but there's got to be ones before that. I remember Dan saying in a pretty old liveshow that he read a fic where him and Phil were pokemon trainers and then continued to make a joke about the author's incorrect choice of which pokemon they'd choose. I know a lot of you have been reading fanfiction (harry potter, etc) and watching since around the beginning, so if you know any super old ones please tell me

The writing of this was so good, so I checked out the author and they wrote the one of the best fics I've ever read- Ecclesiastic.The writing was fantastic, and I could imagine Dan and Phil in this situation and saying the things they said.

Incredible! Oh my god, all of the loaded conversations. This is one of the bet phanfics I've read (though I might have a bit of a preference for personaljourey!Dan fics). I love it.

Not sure if this should go on the white whale thread or here but its a fic I can't find so I'm going with here lol

I once read this fic where Dan gets into Phil's bed (platonically) and at some point in the night Phil starts cuddling up to him and hands start roaming with no words being exchanged. Its like they're both unsure how far to take it but nobody wanted to break the spell by actually saying anything. Don't think it got as far as full on sex but there was some fumbling fo sho.

They wake up and its kinda awks but they work it out and happyeverafter etc.

Anyone know this one? Kinda run of the mill in terms of description but it was really well written from what I remember, since 'get into my bed' fics can often go down a bit of a teenybopper route.

If I've dreamt this up, if any one of our talented writers would like to take this up as a prompt I would LOVE YOU FOREVER. Frankly even if I'm not making it up I'd still love that. Feel free to take it past fumbling

No promises on not making you cry. It's gonna be a long one it think. I posted it Friday and have 3 chaps up already, 4 will be up soon. Mostly just a bit angsty so far. No crying from the reader...well maybe. Just keep in mind I can not write a sad fic. It goes against my nature.

Also I'm a slut for childhood marriage fics especially since I married 4 little boys (not at the same time ) as a kid and am waiting for them to return

That's true I think my biggest pet peeve is how they characterize Chris as this sex obsessed guy who's super horny and inappropriate at all times
