Yep, that's what I was going for. Especially the bit about really caring about Phil, he's got such a lovely personality whereas I think Dan might appear a bit cold from an outside perspective so it's easy to just watch a Dan video and move on. Phil's videos usually provoke a bit of sympathy or something similar so I think a lot of subscribers are happy to follow him on Twitter as well as on YT.Moony wrote:I think the same! Phil's videos are a bit harder to get into (at least it was like that for me) but when you got the overall concept of it and really start to care about this nice and quirky person, you want to see all of his content. Like you said, Dan is #relateable and his videos are sketchy and not that specific. It's just that Phil's channel is about his videos as a whole while Dan's videos are more about his videos individually.I think Phil has the sort of personality that grows on you, and if you're subscribed, you're in it for the long haul (that means a twitter follow as well). Many other youtubers have way more casual viewers but I think it's hard to be a casual viewer of Phil because he's quite quirky and he doesn't make very relatable videos. On the other hand, Dan's whole branding is #relateable and so he must have a lot of subscribers who think he's alright and his content is easy to watch/relate to.
That's just my opinion, there might be absolutely nothing to it.

I remember that when I was introduced to their videos, even though I watched one of Phil's videos first, I preferred watching Dan. I could relate to most of his videos (there are actually only one or two "Reasons Why Dan's A Fail"-videos that I don't relate to

You have to give Phil a chance to grow on you but once you do that, you'll be helpless forever.

Hi! A new member here. I have been watching Dan and Phil since April and obsessing over them for a few months now and I’m really glad to have found this forum. I like tumblr just fine but it can get a little over the top.
My thoughts on the films: I loved them. I had expected to enjoy the documentary but the show took me by surprise. I was smiling the entire time and the only cringey thing for me was the twerking scene. I, like most of you, especially liked the magic show and the singing, but the show in its entirety was really good too. It’s obvious that they had put a lot of effort into it and that they both enjoyed doing it.
Re ls: I was disappointed that we will not get a joint ls tonight, but am still hoping for one on Tuesday.
Re who tops: I think I have already watched most of their videos but yesterday I stumbled upon this video and it's just so hilarious/cringey/are they really saying this:
This post is mostly just letting you know that I am here (if anybody cares), I doubt I will post much. But I really appreciate your thoughts on Dan and Phil

Wooh! Finally caught up on all of these new posts
Re: Bedgate - No comment. I call bullshit on Phil actually making Dan sleep in that tiny bunk ESPECIALLY when they were preforming nearly every night. There's no way.
Re: Who tops - I personally think if they are together they would switch it up.
Re: No liveshow - Add me to the list of people who are sour about this. Come on, boys. They've hit quite a few sore places here recently (that sounds wrong - you know what I mean)

I liked the moments where Dan broke character during tatinof, that was hilarious. e.g. "I am not even going to acknowledge that"
I cringed a bit at the fight over the bed on the tour bus though ( ). I don't think it was necessary, esspecially when they put a sign there which says "dan and phil" even though it's supposed to be only Phil's room smh
(here we go again with #bedgate haha)

Re: real world gay sex... it's interesting, because we as outsiders to gay men go through stages:
the whole teenage belief in top/bottom thing (flashback to fanfics I have written at 14, ugh);
"reasonable adult" belief that most everyone switches up and not that many even do anal; and
(optional), and this is purely anecdotal, but you know what? Upon personally becoming a part of a gay community, I can say confidentely that I've met a LOT of gay couples where they do have a top/bottom split and stick to it 90% of the time.

add me to the group of people who are disappointed about no liveshow.
i get that it can be kind of hard to do a liveshow and for everyone to watch tatinof+doc at once, but i wish they would've just done the twitter thing another day instead?
also after watching markiplier's videos of sister location i would probably want to see d&p play it for spooky week bc it creeps me the fuck out. but it's very different and feels longer/slower (?? idk) so they would probably have to do a longer video than usual if they play it (bc lbr they're not going to split it up into multiple videos)
and the undertale talk is making me miss it, i really hope they post the next episode soon

Seconded - I have some truly horrific conversations with my gay friends (as in, so personal it would truly scar any eavesdroppers) and I only know one gay couple who generally have no preference and switch it up properly regularly (depending on who's got more energy at the time apparently, lol). Then I know another dude who's just not into anal at all. The rest have a preference and as you say generally stick to it, but do switch on the odd occasion. Like everything, its a spectrum I suppose.gnostic wrote: (optional), and this is purely anecdotal, but you know what? I think the 'Dan's a bottom' thing started because of how they were when they met - I got one of my best friends (gay - prefers topping) to watch some vids with me and the first thing he said was 'that is a TWINK!'. Now I don't really know about all that shit, I'm not a gay dude and to me it reads a bit stereotypical, but you can see that there's a perception there at the least.
Following from that I imagine Dan's easier to write as a bottom, for various reasons. Fics are often written with a focus on the reactions of the bottom and we know who's the more reactive of the two to base your writing on. I'm no fic writer but I can imagine its harder to put a voice to Phil in those situations
Don't know why I'm even chiming in when I'm currently a demon anti who thinks they've maybe never had sex anyway. Just my two cents on where the fan perception comes from I guess.
You see what you get for no liveshow Deppy? We'd all be getting hyped if we were getting one and instead we're talking about your sex life. Serves you right joking. mostly.

so i just thought, if dan likes lurking around the internet maybe now they will come up with a more believable story after reading our busgate theories
[offtopic]lol ayyy the top/bottom talk... let's really just leave it there. it's a bit sad that discussions of gay couples OR ships (i.e. not real couple) often seem to delve into the sexual territory while straight couples are normally only romanticized. it's a bit unfair

A little OT from the "bottom" conversation but the sheer unprofessionalism of these DJ's really piss me off considering they're speaking about their colleagues like this, it takes a real kind of ignorance to speak like thisWylis wrote:

Yeah I remember hearing this live and being disappointed. I normally love Scott. He himself is openly gay but only came out in the last few years so he should really know better. Even if they were out, making jokes about colleagues' sex lives on air is tacky AF000dia000 wrote:A little OT from the "bottom" conversation but the sheer unprofessionalism of these DJ's really piss me off considering they're speaking about their colleagues like this, it takes a real kind of ignorance to speak like thisWylis wrote:

Wow yeah that radio talk is...
I don't even understand the whole bunk thing. They made that up and had to see if it's real or not?
Either way it would make me uncomfortable even if I wasn't with the other person. It's just weird!

Same. Someone wrote a while ago, about how its been 7 years and the same position would be boring. Position could change but who tops may not (hetero couples do it forever rememeber.gnostic wrote: (optional), and this is purely anecdotal, but you know what? Why are we even talking about top or bottom anyway? Ugh if only they did a freaking ls. I will forever be salty about it. When will there be another excuse for one? I have my suspicions as to why they don't do them anymore, or even come into the others ls. That last one in Kentucky i rewatch all the freaking time, cause it is so cute in some places I suspect they don't do them anymore because they can't keep it together. That one in Kentucky, when Phil spills his milkshake...ugh shoot me it's frickin adorable...They are too coupley and since they are live they have to really watch how they act with each other, which I am sure is stressful. I like the joint ls because (and I believe most people like them) we get to truly see their chemistry, which is golden. Seriously if they could bottle that shit they could be billionaires. Anyone have any other theories as to why we don't get them anymore? Money maybe? I hate my theory because it is so freaking cutesy I could

yeah, that wasn't particularly professional of them. i think the top/bottom bunk joke is very fuckboi-ish humour, so if it's among straight guy friends they would all laugh. but deppy are constantly harrassed about their relationship status by their fans, so even if the dj-s know they are just friends and not dating, joking about bunks only adds fuel to the fire.

There is one big difference between Johnlock and Phan, and that is that John was constantly dating girls, had girlfriends and even got married. And well as far as we know that isn't the case for either Dan or Phil.papierklemmen wrote:[offtopic]lately i've been rewatching some of their younow stuff and i noticed the outdated johnlock mentions by dan... what's that about?i kinda have a theory that johnlock is close to his heart cause it's essentially deppy of a fictional world - two guys, living together, working together, spending their time together and not socializing much with others, always mistaken for a gay couple but are not actually dating etc.[/offtopic]

People have been asking if he ships johnlock since the dawn of time, really. He's mentioned he understands why it's a good ship and people like it, but it's not his thing.papierklemmen wrote:

Also idk that whole top/bottom/twink convo is making me really wrinkly because I have male friends who are straight and they were always perceived as effeminate/girly/elegant and they would be treated like those stereotypes and like "oh wow u aren't gay okay" and it just reminds me how toxic the whole idea of what is masculine is "powerful" and how your mannerisms or appearance can make people think things of you when it really doesn't matter, I mean Dan got bullied for his appearance and behaviour in school (can relate) so idk it just seems like I would be adding to those harmful ideas if I talked about it, but you guys carry on don't let me stop you I'll just read and observe, no need to ruin the convo or make a fuss
All I have to contribute today is a pointless collection of nonsense but I'm bored so :
I can't wait to see how they'll handle the twitter thing but I wont be bothered to watch it in real time. Counting on you guys to give us the highlights.
Undertale talk! I REALLY want to see them finally continue/end this game because I want to know what happens!!!! I've seen vague spoilers only. I even started playing it myself but realized that I prefer watching them play it.
Also I'm not even a Halloween crazy person but the thought of spooky week and eventually baking (??) made me so excited today. I need pumkin pie in my life right now.
I started playing Slither.io today and got to over 1000 on the first try. Made me appreciate how much they suck even more

Exactly SquishPhan! (disclaimer, emphasis on "confirmed")
What goes around, comes around

Concerning the radio DJ video: I just realized, they made up that "false statement" so it was clearly intended to go to top/bottom jokes. Why else have this ridiculous bunk bed scenario if not to make that pun? At the same time it hits on something a lot of people have been speculating about forever (Dan and Phil's sleeping arrangements).
I just find it interesting that they use this topic so openly and for the lolz especially since they're collegues.
Makes me uncomfortable the same way that journalists reading bad smut fic for shock value does.
(honestly I have never heard straight guys moke each other about being top/bottom, only noticed that happened among gay/bi guys, and since that other dj is gay... but )

Not a fan of that radio clip. As others have said, unprofessional, and unkind, a previously closeted dude should know better.
Ok, busgate. Bedgate. Am I really going to post this so late? Yes.
Was I watching the documentary hoping for them to introduce the bus bedroom as theirs? Yes
Was I disappointed at the time? Yes
Would I have actually been proud of them for doing a Joey Graceffa and coming out in paid for content? No
Hotels:
Phil was ill. He said he was coughing, feverish, and exhausted. The last thing they needed was for Dan to get ill too. The hotel rooms being so different suggests to me that they were booked at different times, that they’d booked all the rooms they thought they’d need in advance, and then when Phil got ill they called the hotels and asked to book an additional room, so that Dan and Phil could have separate rooms, so that Phil wouldn’t disturb Dan’s sleep by coughing at night. It was short notice, so the hotel had to give them whatever happened to still be available, hence the lottery of who would get the better room on hotel nights. If they had had a room each booked from the start, wouldn’t you expect them to get two similar-sized rooms near to each other?
In my opinion, hotelgate has nothing at all to do with whether they usually sleep in the same bed, in hotels or at home. We know that when they stay in a hotel, they usually book a shared room with two beds. They've been perfectly open about that before, and they showed that that's what they did for the UK tour. Why would they decide to pretend they didn't share, but only on the US leg of the tour? That's not a no-homo they've needed before.

Its sadly not uncommon for BBCR1 - when Grimmy and Harry Styles were closer there was so much innuendo around the two of them, both on Nick's show and on other shows.mio wrote:Concerning the radio DJ video: I just realized, they made up that "false statement" so it was clearly intended to go to top/bottom jokes. Sometimes he'd play along or jokingly be like 'lol shut up' but sometimes (more so towards the end of that hype) he was quite obviously irritated by it on his own show (his producer was the instigator) so I dread to think how he must have felt about other DJ's doing it.
But we all know the BBC is full of gossipy bullies so

I think it was tasteless for BBC/Scott to use Dan and Phil to make the joke. It makes me think a couple of things:
1) it confirms was seen as popular with listeners, which is nice, but also
2) makes me think they are not "out" (if they are together blah blah) with very many people at all. Maybe that frustrated Scott a little and he was poking at them.
Like winston and swofro I miss the joint live shows, or at least seeing them for a few minutes in each others individual ones.
I'm always up for a dose of domestic.
And re: hotels, if they weren't out at all amongst the crew, it's highly possible there were always separate rooms booked, which probably had nothing to do with how many were used. Someone earlier said the big room Dan had while Phil supposedly had a room on another floor, suggested Phil's "room" may have been another room in a large suite.
Where are our detectives?
