is anybody else, for lack of a better term, bored of d&p? being 18 and watching both of them since 2009, i find myself bored of their content in recently months/this year. i understand we haven't had much content because of tatinof, but what we have been given has been... lacking.
i don't know if that's just me, but being an older phandom member i also feel like they're not as funny or genuine as they used to be. maybe it's just younger people find different things funny these days, but if i were 13/14 watching the content they make now i'd be put off and bored. the whole cat whiskers thing was cute for pinof, but should've stopped there and not let it become part of their branding. (the 'cat whiskers come from within' merch was ugly and cringy in my opinion.)
dan's whole 'existential crisis' schtick is boring and cringe-worthy too, it ruins perfectly good videos, and it makes questioning your life and existence look like a 'cute' and '#relatable' thing.
i guess what i'm trying to say, without being mean, is you can't be the funny, #relatable internet friend to teenage girls when you're nearly 30.
sorry, not sorry.
anybody else feel this way?

Nope, you're not the only one. I was a hardcore stan for years but recently I've found myself just not caring that much. Some combination of getting older, their content not being as funny to me as it used to, and things feeling forced... I just don't get that little spark of excitement like I used to when they post a video anymore.

I haven't been watching since 2009, only since 2014 but I'm not bored yet.
I'm an older phan and have really enjoyed the last year. tatinof has been one of my favourite things of theirs, not just for the content of it but also for personal reasons (making friends etc). I'm actually quite sad that after Sweden tatinof will be no more because I really enjoyed seeing them live, was so much better than how it came across on the video version.

I feel you. I'm your age and started watching casually around early 2013. I subbed for their individual work rather than their joint content (I don't think I even watched the PINOF's until maybe a year ago).
Maybe I'm biased but i love their pre TABINOF videos. I watched all of TATINOF and the documentary and I wasn't a fan, the sense of humor felt very different than what I used to from them. It was just an extreme exaggeration of their personas and inside jokes from them that were beaten to death. Which I get was how deppy intended it to be... its just not my taste.

Yes! I was trying to describe this to my friend, but she didn't really get it.
I'm just gonna flat out say I'm a younger fan. I'd like to say I'm rather mature for my age though, so I'm guessing a lot of people my age feel differently than me.
Next month I will have discovered deppy a year ago. Looking back on the last 11 months, I can see 'fell in deep' fast. I was a casual fan for about two months, and then in February I heard about voldy... and yeah. In the next few months, I found basically everything that is on the public internet. I was never bored. At the same time, I was idolizing them. I never thought that anything they did was bad, I loved all of their videos and I got entertained by the smallest things. In May, I got really into the twitter phandom and stopped being a 'phannie.' I became more 'demon' and realized it was okay to criticize something about them you didn't like.
Then, I discovered IDB. Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy I found it because I feel like Ihave so many more mature opinions about everything. But,with all the constructive criticism you guys said that no one has else said, it was hard to handle. Eventually I got more and more critical of them, to this point where I find so many things they do boring. But then I noticed that all the 'twitter phannies' were getting bored too. A ton of people feel like this as well! It's not my mindset, it's deppy.
I didn't come here until shortly after TABINOF was released so I never experienced what it was like before all of this. But looking back at their old videos, and feeling the way I did to them last May always makes me someone nostalgic. I feel like they've lost a bit of their 'magic'. Besides phan, they're not as interesting as they used to be. How long have people been feeling like this? I was never bored until recently, which I think is because there's nothing left to discover.
This makes no sense!I'm just rambling, so sorry for that. Long story short, I think almost everyone feels like this, no matter what age or time you've been here.

I'm an older fan and still loving them, that's why I'm here after all, and I don't find that they only cater for a younger audience. I enjoy them more and more as they get older and become more relatable to me. Agree that the last year had been amazing! So I guess it's an individual thing and a matter of changing tastes.
I think it's natural to lose interest in things and move on, I've definitely done that with fandoms before. It's good to find new things that interest you so you're not spending time and effort feeling disappointed in stuff and bored though. That just seems like a mega waste of time to me.

This year has actually been so much better for me than the ones before. I'm Dan's age and I have been watching them since 2010, and there was a year in between (probably around 2013) where I started to watch them less and less because it was boring, not relatable to me etc. Since 2015 I've been so excited about them again though, and with Tatinof etc I feel like they were finally evolving, that I've been feeling so excited for them.
I don't feel like they cater to such a young audience. Some of Phil's videos maybe but the majority has been great.

I'm almost 26 and I'm not bored of them at all. I suppose it depends on the person.
For me, make up a lot of what I enjoy absently doing in what little spare time I have, in the sense that I'll check tumblr, IDB, watch a video of theirs to help me relax after work, etc. I try to tune in to all of their liveshows and if I miss one, I read the summary somewhere. I do something deppy related every single day.
I'm definitely not a casual fan and I stan them pretty hard, but they don't make my world go round -- if they don't post anything, I just go and do something else. Perhaps that's why I've never once felt bored despite having an almost unhealthy obsession with them.
I loved TATINOF and I'm proud of them for having achieved something that no other youtuber managed before on such a large scale.
As for them catering to a younger audience, hmm... I do feel that is somewhat true, not in the sense that their videos are aimed at 12 year olds, but in the sense that I feel they would be touching more mature subjects by now if they allowed themselves to. Then again, they're entertainers, who says that they have to? Maybe this is the kind of content they want to make. Also, let's be realistic, the majority of their fanbase is made up of teenagers. Any kind of major change is a RISKY move, so I don't blame them for it.
All in all, I love D&P and haven't felt bored with them once. I'm a fan since 2013.

I don't feel that way about Dan and Phil but I've felt (similar to) that way about 100 different things I've been into at one point or another throughout my life and there will probably come a day I feel that way about D&P. I mean I can't really imagine not having an interest in D&P right now but admittedly when I was into all my other fandoms I also couldn't imagine I'd stop stanning them either and I did. It happens.
I'd say as a general rule most people aren't into the same things at 18 as the were at 13 and by they hit their mid-20s they are not into the same things they were at 18 and so on and so forth. There are obviously some exceptions to this and we all have a few things that have universal appeal to us that we can stick with for a whole lifetime but I'd say for the most part this rule that applies for most people. We grow and change and our interests and hobbies move along with us.
If your interests are changing and you no longer enjoy them then move on to something you do enjoy. Staying in a fandom when you don't enjoy makes it not a very nice place to be.

Completely agree with your whole post!
I'm also the kind of person who gets obsessed with a thing like no tomorrow but can get out of that phase and into something else just as quickly (Deppy is just one of the things I keep returning to since I started watching in early 2013)
Honestly, this year has been my most invested in them so far. And I think it depends a lot on your personal circumstances in addition to the content that somebody puts out.
If you don't feel good watching them anymore, maybe it's just not the right thing at the moment for you. Maybe take a break and return at another point. I'm sure Deppy (and the fandom) wont go away anytime soon
~ IT'S A HORSE SUSAN ~
I understand you don't feel as interested in them as before, but I don't thinkis because you are older and older people can't enjoy their humour, cause this forum is full of "older" people that keep enjoying them.

Yeah I'm bored with them too, especially rn after the let down that was Spooky Week. So don't mind my bitterness rn :')
For me it doesn't have much to do with age (although I do think their content is really for teens these days, with Dan's persona switch to Cool Big Brother Who Gives Study Advice and all). I'm 23 and have been watching them since 2012. My interests always have their lower moments and I'm a critical fan by nature, but for the past year I've been 'meh' about them and their content more often than usual. Their YouTube content is usually amusing but weak, I'm not a fan of TABINOF and nothing about TATINOF interests me. I'm proud of the boys and what they achieved, but I don't want it and ever since Dan's first artsy trailer for those things that's pretty much all D&P have been about. The decline of the radio show didn't help, getting two hours of content every week really helps you stay invested and even 1 hour a month was just a really nice thing to have. And now it's dead. Boo.
However while their decline in quality content is my main reason for being a bit bored with them, the age and relatability thing is still a factor in some form. I've written a post on this before, but in my opinion no 20 something top YouTuber is able to truly relate to 'normal' people their own age. They live different lives in a bit of a bubble. They earn good money, live in nice places, go on expensive trips and do not struggle with a shit 9-5 job, getting a job in the first place or college. That last one doesn't go for D&P because Phil finished uni early in his career and Dan didn't drop out because he started getting all that sweet AdSense money, but because he couldn't take it anymore. But even then, his drop out aftermath was very different from mine and that of many others.
Now I'm not saying D&P and other YouTubers don't have any problems or thoughts that match those of a normal person their age. They obviously do, but they never talk about it. Dan might let something slip in a liveshow when he is in one of his moods, but we're not allowed to take it too seriously. Instead YouTubers have their relatable content revolve around the average characteristics of a millennial who spends more time online than outside (introverted, clumsy, social awkward etc.) or their own teenage years because that's the last time they were like the rest of us plebs. You can see it in comedy subjects as well, like would 2016!Dan make a video like 5 Kinds Of Drunk People? I know he 'drinks' for comedic effect in ISG, but an entire video about the various effects of alcohol? I don't think so, his core cash cow audience is years away from any legal drinking age (especially in the US) and wouldn't be able to relate. They both have made a switch to tamer teen content and to me that has been quite disappointing to see.
But these are obviously just my messily typed out thoughts on things and I know many people on here don't feel this way at all sooo I do still love them a lot, I'm in too deep and not leaving the phandom anytime soon

I'm not necessarily bored, more like annoyed and frustrated with them at this point.
idk it's hard to describe
I haven't actually watched any of their vids these past few weeks, whenever I get a tweet notification from them my reaction is basically

I've been feeling weirdly about ever since about Dan's roast yourself challenge. I really can't tell if I'm getting out of them or if I'm just overanalyzing my interest in them. Idk. But yeah, they definitely don't feel as magical for me as they did before. I'm also the type of person who goes through stages of fandom though. Still, I've never been in an RPF before and it is different.
