Can't make a whole post about the videos right now as I'm out but I'm so happy at Dan's Evangelion mention on the recommendation video! I started watching it after crash's posts on the old GG forum back a few months ago and quickly became my favorite anime of all time wish he would have elaborated of course (can't watch it without thinking of Dan and the parallels) but overall pretty happy with it. Maybe we can squeeze a more in depth talk on it on his next live show, but I doubt it.

Like w h a t even, 2016's getting better and better And can I just say I'm not interested in anime but his enthusiasm kept me intrigued about all his recommendations. His passion is quite clear and it's very cute. The vibe going on in the DINI video was wonderful.

for a spon that was really really good. enjoyed watching it (was about to go to bed, they really should stop posting that late at night for Europe) I loved that he made a script to make even spon relatable & fun to watch (I know ppl here hate it, but I genuinely love that I can relate )

(not much fan of his recommendations though, except Cowboy Beebop, but I laughed at honorable mentions of Ouran & Kuroshitsuji (I am probably the only person who loved the original FMA and disliked the Brotherhood though...and honestly don't watch Death note. Read it.) )

Well, that was certainly not a "Top 10 Hottest Anime Boys" video, at least Dan's waifu Haru made quite the appearance.
Actually, I am actually quite surprised by what this video was instead. I was expecting a very short list of recommendations, but instead I got an introduction to anime community and culture. Even if the pronunciation was abysmal, I think the representation was quite fair. A gold star from me.

The recommendations video was something along the lines of what I expected, even the recommendations themselves were as I expected. I liked that he made it very casual and split the recs up into categories from most digestible to least and gave a fair summary for a few of 'em.

My only complaint: The "Evangelion" pronunciation. JUST.

Also, if we're going to psychoanalyze this I love the fact that the anime that gets 'Phil's stamp of approval' is a weird one about alien parasites taking over people's bodies. I expected nothing less from Phil. And the fact that a cute fluffy anime about 'a weird kid who plays the piano' meeting a girl who plays the violin made him cry? Didn't Phil take violin lessons?

the sketchy video was great. i liked it, i even laughed out loud once or twice. and i appreciate that he whipped it up even though he and phil have had their hands full with rehearsing for the tour.

now the anime recommendations vid. first of all, it was hand porn, wtf, second of all, i mean we knew this but still, he admitted to watching free! for fit boys in their underpants and thirdly- he talked mentioned phil like 17 times. honestly, if that boy genuinely wants to keep his bropal façade up (which i very much doubt, but that's a different story) he needs to stop.

I'm sure somebody here will have said everything way more eloquently than i just have, but it just felt significant enough for me to comment on it

Really enjoyed his side channel video as well, you can tell he is passionate about it and that makes it fun to watch. Of course he had to drop Phil’s name in the video. Five times. Yes I counted.
He should definitely use this channel more, just for these kind of videos.

As someone who doesn't (and probably won't ever) watch anime..... I loved the shit out of these videos.

We got the sketches, we got the haru pillow, we got the Dan-waffling-about-things-he-loves, we got Dan talking about boys in speedos, we got Dan in bed and Dan in a letterman jacket. Just.... yes to it all. If someone told me this is what all #spon would be like, then more #spon. Bring it on. Please.

That's all I've got for now. Worth a rewatch for sure.

This is the kind of content I could get used to!! I really wasn't expecting any of it and was pleasantly surprised by literally everything. I'm not into anime AT ALL and I found those videos super interesting and informative. I don't know anything about anime and thought it covered pretty much everything and I liked watching it. The return of the sketches is a BIG YES! It made me laugh a whole lot.

The side channel video is perfect to go with the other one. Genuine recommendations separated into categories, which if I ever wanted to watch anime, would be easy for me to do.

I just feel like this is real content, and consistent content. Just the way it should be. I'm not even bothered it's and ad. It's just good content for me. I'm very much pleased.

Wow! Was not expecting the video, what a nice surprise! That was a great way to do an ad video, if I didn't know already that he was doing a Crunchyroll video I wouldn't notice while watching. He also explained the anime thing(?) quite well, I think. Made me want to watch some episodes I've been neglecting for a while lol

Also, loved that he brought the sketches back. They were simple, but made the video a lot better. The Haru part was hilarious omg Was Phil who filmed that??? That look at the end hahaha

The recommendations video was cool too, I like him talking to the audience like that. And lol at Dan recommending Phil's favorites too, ofc!

I think I stated before that I have thing for cute boys talking about anime and goooood god the side channel video gives me live. The sketch vid was great, but he seems very sincere in his recommendations and the whole vid had a good vibe to it, it's clear that he has a passion for that stuff. And speaking as a major anime dweeb, it was actually a very good list for beginners! Sorting out the feel-good stuff from deeper animes and mentioning a few classics, nice. I hope we'd have more vids like that on the side channel in the future.

For a spon vid it was good, people hate ads because usually they are so sloppily made, this could have been just a regular dinof vid even without the spon. And wow that haru scene. I feel blessed.

Dan's anime rec video has kind of inspired me to try to start watching anime again. Before I even knew of Dan and Phil, watching anime was a hobby of mine. But because I don't like to be invested in too many things at once (otherwise I wouldn't be very productive), I stopped watching anime. I think I'll start watching some short ones to start off!

It's maybe a tiny bit sad that it took a paycheck to get him to make a good video again but I'm not even upset because he did make a GOOD video. And his concept for the main channel + side channel companion part was fantastic. I have no complaints, and I'm not generally the hugest fan of Dan's mc content.

and bc I'm phan trash I appreciate how much he was bringing it both with his own sexuality, and with the casual inclusion of Phil in both videos.

Hello! First time poster on this forum (I did my intro blurb in the intro thread). I just wanted to add some quick opinions I had on Dan's new videos.

- Dan said Phil loves Parasyte. If you haven't watched Parasyte, it's incredibly weird and disgusting and I'm absolutely ecstatic that Phil loves it. It definitely showcases the Phil we see in the early youtube days.
- Dan's pronunciation of otaku, doujinshi etc. was absolutely atrocious
- I am a little bit uncomfortable about how Dan portrayed Japanese fan culture because Japanese fan culture has many problematic elements. The word otaku can actually be quite offensive (and it's so misused in America that I don't think it's worth complaining anymore)
- I love that they love Haikyuu!! The depiction of sportsmanship in Haikyuu is some of the best in sports anime.
- For anyone who is wondering how "gay" it is to like Free, it actually was incredibly popular (even among straight guys)
- Overall his recommendations were pretty good (Evangelion is my absolute favorite and they've mentioned it many times before which makes me happy ). I think I preferred Dan waffling on about anime recommendations than the sketch itself.

Mind me I'm not saying it wasn't good (i thought it was great) but it actually looks like he wanted to make actual good content and it feels like he really challenged himself in a way? I mean I would never thought about him doing that haru thing on his main channel, and all the shameless abs mentions and stuff...I'm just glad he went through with this video and actually posted it.

• First of all, he actually really cares about the topic? He wasn't trying to be **relatable** or get in on some trend. He knows that some of his viewers have no interest in anime and yet, he did it? And it was nice, and honest and funny? can you see that i'm still in shock?

• there were so many sketches? You saw he put effort into them and even tho they were short, they were effective an fun? He wore so much stuff I feel like I hadn't seen in ages.

• He voluntarily posted a 12-minute side channel video in which he sat down and talked about stuff he likes and is passionate about? Idk if any of you remember some of my GG posts but that was like my greatest reasonable YouTube related wish, ever, and it came true. If this is a dream, do not wake me up.

I know I have pretty low standards and yes, the video was sponsored but these two videos were literally all I ever wanted when I first clicked the "subscribe" button under some DINOF video. They were well made, didn't seem forced, were fun - the recipe for a good DINOF video is so simple and yet it seems so difficult for Dan to hit the right notes. I hope he sees the positive reaction to today's videos and realizes he's going in the right direction. Pleaseee.


...soo, now that I've got all the important stuff out of the way lemme talk about Dan's pretty good taste in anime. Imo he should've put OHSHC onto his list instead of, let's say, SAO but other than that, it's a decent rec list. I actually haven't seen all anime on it and especially Erased and Neon Genesis, which I've been wanting to watch for ages, have peeked my interest so ty for that, Daniel. Also, I'm 150% here for Dan being passionate about sports anime, especially Haikyuu. I really want to see (and hear) him talk more about Haikyuu! i bet my copy of tabinof that he cried during both season finales

i really hope this is the start of a new 'era' for dan, to be able to talk about the things he loves and to freely express his attraction to guys (fictional anime guys nonetheless but still) and to not have to add "no homo" onto the end of everything he says that isn't straight-sounding.

i'm not a fan of anime i'm more of a kdrama person myself,goddam that low quality camera feel lmao but watching him rave about it actually makes me want to go and check out the animes on crunchyroll or wherever (goddam you sneakily good ad videos)
