Omg the hair

I've watched bits and pieces of this show but dislike it due to continuity issues with the second movie and Kiara's complete change of character. Yes I'm ridiculous for caring about that. It's cute though, but definitely a show for young kids and not intended for D&P's usual audience at all (like BH6 was) so that's... interesting?

The gorillas are so cute! The matching hair is a nice touch, too. I am not sure I would have ever thought of D&P as voices for big muscly animals, but I'm very curious to see the episode. :D

If Disney are giving them openings for a new career in voice acting if youtube ceases to be viable, I'm not complaining.

How much is it in Disney's interests to bring in guests whose usual audience is very different from the show's target audience? That episode will probably get record viewing figures for the series, but is unlikely to gain them much of a regular viewership. Could they be underestimating the average age of Dan and Phil's audience so dramatically that they think they will bring in significant numbers of primary/kindergarden age children?

Coming out of lurkdom to say that I just looked up the description for The Lion Guard episode:
"The Guard helps two buffoonish gorilla princes return to their home in the snowy Rwenzon Mountains"

Also, late to the party but I loved pinof8, definitely my favorite one next to the first. Everyone here has already discussed all my favorite parts, but no matter how many times I watch it, Phil's neighing at 8:00 absolutely kills me

well, i haven't posted in literal months. not sorry (but a bit ashamed) that this will be my first post back.....
alittledizzy wrote:I like the implication that this was doing an impression of each other, because that would mean Dan goes around the house wondering why there's honey on various parts of his body.
my first thought upon seeing the honey tweet was this fic by deletablebird

pinof8 was a great time. i was very nervous for it, but am thrilled with the outcome. surprised no one's mentioned phil's "how did you know my uncle's name?" comment at 0:42, because i thought that was hilarious and a great example of deppy's weird, quick chemistry and how well they bounce off each other.

and below are some d&p-appreciation thoughts i've been having recently. under the cut because it's all OT and long and i'm too self-conscious to occupy this much space on the page for a first post in a long while, lol.
i think it's so lovely how dan actively stays engaged with what his fans are engaged in and stays on top of their general interests. like, whenever people on younow ask if he's seen/listened to something, if he hasn't, he "tabs it" (opens it up in a tab) and saves it to check out later.
for example, when twentyone pilots released their cover of "cancer" by MCR and everyone was freaking out about it in the chat, he tabbed it, listened to it at some point, then brought it up the next week and shared his thoughts. and we know he has some overlapping interests with his audience, but i think he goes out of his way to understand them and appreciate the things they like that he might not have an individual interest in. this is especially lovely because it's a way to subtly legitimize his mostly young, female audience's interests when that demographic is so often mocked. (and yes, sometimes he can be a pretentious fucking snob about his own interests, but i'm choosing to ignore that rn.)

i think the way he stays interested, engaged, and close to his audience is what helps rly set him apart from other youtubers. and i think phil ends up doing it by osmosis, because he doesn't seem to make the same kind of effort, but i feel like he ends up absorbing a lot of the stuff that dan watches/listens to, so he can usually comment on it. (example: when drake's album came out on the US tour and phil said he'd been listening to it a lot simply because dan had been listening to it a lot and he's always around.)

(lol the recent gay princes tweet is kinda another good example of this...just shows how present and aware dan is of trends in his own fandom)

also, this happened ages ago but i'm just feeling really appreciative over it...when younow fucked fans over by demanding subscription services to rewatch streams and accounts to watch streams live, dan mentioned it and initially said he and phil would do what they could, and then in the next younow, he's wearing a fucking tumblr hat, has enabled the tumblr younow livestream, and now acknowledges the tumblr-crowd pointedly during every single stream. he was telling us without explicitly telling us, 'go to tumblr, streams are there now, you don't have to pay' without breaking any younow rules. clever, thoughtful dan.

basically, d&p are good people to stan. but we already knew that.

sidenote of all sidenotes: i can't get this pic from dapgo out of my head. it's my favorite picture in the book and i can't pinpoint why. perhaps bc it's so natural, happy, and sweet? maybe bc dan's legs look so good? who knows. Image

because it’s relevant again this is the ls where they briefly discuss the voice acting. i wanted to watch it again and see what they said about it so in case you want to see va discussion starts @ 32 min. it’s cute how obviously excited they are about being in it .

I saw Dan's tweet on my way home with my friend who started watching them a while ago, it was nice timing to share the news with someone who likes them. This is the most adorable thing, I'm so proud they're making bigger strides in voice acting even if it's not something they particularly want to go for, it seems a fun job and they're both good at it (Matthew Mercer has been the friendliest regular guest at a few anime cons I've been to and he's lovely, if that tells us anything). It's great where Phil's animal impressions have taken him

That's a really lovely photo of them, they look so sweet just sitting there smiling (and Dan in his Mickey Mouse jumper, nice touch). They both look like they've got a really cool secret too. That clip of last December's liveshow is cute, they weren't kidding when they said it would be a year.

Good day for YouTube Rewind, that design's fun.

and someone changed it again

Edit: someone changed it again but i'm not going to bother trying to fit it on the screen to screenshot it. they changed the 'developed by', the 'directed by', and the 'opening theme' to the lyrics of 'the internet is here'.

Wwll I hope Disney isn't so dumb to think that D&P have an audience that matches their viewership in any way. At least I don't think we've sunk to actual 5 year olds yet? So unless they're that out of touch, I have trouble believing that bringing in more views was the main reasoning behind this move. I'm also really not sure about this episode doing that much better than usual anyway. I feel like the phandom is too small of niche to reflect in ratings and the way those are measured, and that very little people are gonna watch it as it airs (hell most of us can't in the first place because the phandom is quite international) and just wait for it to pop up online.

And honestly, The Lion Guard is one of the last shows Disney should be trying to save ratings for right now because it's doing pretty well as far as I know. It's a Lion King spin-off after all, D&P aren't quite on that level. If Disney wants better ratings they have a better chance pandering to the TLK fandom by giving a shit about continuity. But first I'd advice them to look at the sinking ship that is their sitcoms.

Hmm. It's been a month since his last actual video (classing DAPGOOSE as a spon vid, so it doesn't count)... So is he going to post a dinof vid that includes Twitter hijinks before/after posting pinof bloopers on DINI? Or is he going to bank whatever the dinof vid is for later in the month (tell my mind to stop thinking it's a Truth or Dare type of thing..) when they're Christmasing. Damn his last solo vid was in September. I'm interested to see what he'll be doing with his channel now that we can bury tatinof (and shove a stake through its heart before shutting the coffin just in case). How many of those ideas on his list will see the light of day in 2017? He said our gaming channel thirst would be quenched in December, so at least we have that to close out the year. And he also said no more surprises, but I've been burned before. Hyped hyped hyped for the future.

edit: actually it just occurred to me the tweeting could be something DAPG related, but if it was due to like DvP or something, it doesn't make sense they would both get to tweet off the other's account. idk. WAIT what if they did a secret collab with somebody and it wasn't even them tweeting, it was somebody else. PJ, for instance, is always talking about being smothered in honey, just saying... Nevermind that according to instagram PJ was home all day, shhh

edit again: They both look so pretty in the pic Dan tweeted it physically pains me. I just needed to say that.

The tweeting from someone else's account is totally a thing Grace Helbig does in her podcast, and she has been in the UK, but I don't want to get my hopes up too much there.

(Though if they were going to do a podcast, that's about the only one I can imagine them doing - since her whole point is not asking anything deep.)

Oh god I really want them to do that at some point, but it's the other way around. She has the guests tweet whatever they want from her account. And she always tweets out asking for questions for them first. And she's now having it filmed in LA for Fullscreen. Have I trampled on the dream enough yet? I even gave myself a sad.

Chris is back in London so I'll just pretend they had him over, with some honey for undisclosed reasons, until I'm proven otherwise. It's a nice thought.

I think you're right about the phandom not making a significant difference to their views or ratings. (I forgot for a moment that this was actual mainstream media, in which Dan and Phil's ability to break the internet is largely irrelevant.) But if it's not for the views and ratings, what's the reason? Do they think Dan and Phil have actual voice acting talent?
(I think my tone sounds kind of incredulous there, but I don't mean it to. If this is something they're genuinely good at then I'm happy for them, but surprised, since they're not actual actors.)

Unrelated theory: 7:37

Theory: Dan draws attention to the gay princes speculation because he likes that there are people who have enough belief in the current state of the world that that's something they can even hope for. I think he, too, yearns for more queer representation and would love to have an opportunity to be part of something which provided that, in a way that didn't compromise his personal privacy or unwillingness to be boxed in by labels.

You trampled the dream, but then you gave me a newer even better dream - so all is forgiven.

Unfortunately, yeah - I don't think it'll make a big difference, for the reasons already said. And even of the cable television owning American fans who would have the ability to DVR it and have their view count I'm willing to bet a good portion of them will find a youtube copy or download it anyway just to avoid having to tell parents/family they want to record a Disney Jr show for two youtubers.

(Meanwhile I will be watching it live, because no shame.)

Maybe it's the way they're able to play off one another verbally as a duo that landed them the roles? I'll admit, sometimes I let their old radio shows or live shows just run in the background while I'm working because their back and forth is so in sync that it's actually soothing. I could see a contact getting ahold of a clip and finding them well-suited for a pair of "buffoonish" cartoon gorilla princes as you don't have to know or recognize their voices to enjoy the bants. No matter what got them there, it's very exciting to see them branching out (and maybe even bring a few more middle-aged folks into the phandom- hi Disney parents!)

Oh hey this is old news but can somebody help me: ok so at the boncas, somebody said Grace put her hand on her heart when Phil said the '2016 with another person line' and brought Dan up, but the fan videos I've seen are from the other side so Grace isn't in shot. And in Tom's vlog (around 10:00), he had the PERFECT angle with Grace/Mamrie in shot but he zooms in just as Phil starts the line, cutting her out so we can't see her reaction. So I'm just wondering if anybody can point me in the direction of a video including her reaction if it happened. AND IF IT DID happen, did Tom edit around it (after the fact) on purpose, or was that just some coincidental zooming done in-the-moment? This isn't groundbreaking stuff, but my curiosity is nagging at me, thanks.
