Now that we're in a post-tatinof world and the new year is only a few weeks away, should we start our 2017 predictions for D&P?

Here's mine: a return to normalcy to start the new year, just sporadic vids and live shows; then a vacation together (maybe Japan, or another couples retreat to Crete) timed around Phil's 30th; next will come new house shopping for "more storage", followed by the big move to Brighton; to cap it all off, they get a doggo as a house warming gift to themselves—I'm thinking Corgi (sorry shib lovers).

I also think we'll start to see some diversification of their business ventures outside of the D&P brand, whether it's apps, or additional clients for the IRL store, or something completely new, I think they'll have an eye on post-YouTube income streams for down the line—they made so much money last year that it only makes sense that they put some of it aside for new business.

No #phandivorced, no big announcements, no big revelations, but I do think they'll start to live a bit more transparently—the whole glass closet notion—and keeping up the momentum from 2016.

I'm thinking 2017 will see the lauch of a Baking Channel, followed by a cookbook of all their favourite recipes.

Jokes aside I think they will probably go on holiday, then start looking for a new house. Videos will also become a weekly thing I hope at least. I don't think they will announce anything about their relationship but will carry on like how they are now. 2016 has been such a busy year for them I hope they use 2017 to relax and not focus on any huge projects.

i really hope that 2017 is their relax year but i feel like they're long past the "just youtube" phase so they're most likely working on something new already. maybe this something is really pricey and that's why we're getting all the touchy feely fanservice to lure us in  what do mainstream youtubers usually do after their books/tours? get their own talk show? become a c t e u r s? idek... maybe crunchyroll came back to them with the offer to go to japan and taste all the food?
i hope they choose wisely because branching out can make or break a youtubers career, tbh... yeah they have a dedicated fanbase, who lived through the bour, but hew knows. tyler oakley got his ellen talk show deal and now gets 100k views per video. 100k!!!!!! he's supposed to be one of the biggest youtubers, huh.

Brighton: where elderly youtube couples retire to

I've been predicting the move to Brighton for a while now but I don't think it will happen any time soon. I think we'll see their return to the BBC, after all when they let go everyone else, D&P were the only ones who were mentioned. IMO the beebs sees them as the asset they are and we can expect more content from them like documentaries and radio shows.

OT:

So people who have bought unisex clothes from the Deppy shop, how is the sizing? Esp asking if you have bought the nice and floofy Christmas jumper.
I'm like an European medium, about 5 ft 8 in but I have and hourglass figure and as much as I don't want for it to be too big on me as a size M, I'm scared that size S will be too tight around my hips. Halp pls (If you don't want to answer here you can just PM me)
Thanks!

I think a lot of this is actually very likely. Maybe they'll do more voice acting too, I feel like they like it. But yeah, I really don't think it's going to be just YouTube for them from here on out. They might work with the BBC again and I wouldn't put another book past them, after all they surprised us with DAPGO too (even though it was totally riding the momentum from the tour). But maybe not this year? With the books and tour over I think a new project is very likely. Since Papierklemmen mentioned Tyler, I think they know they have to do something to keep their fanbase happy. The phandom is going strong but so was Tyler's fanbase until suddenly it wasn't anymore after the Binge hype died down. Same for Connor Franta actually (I think), the hype about the book died down and suddenly he's not really that popular anymore. I don't think that will happen to the guys anytime soon but with Youtube it's always a possibility.

I also can totally see them try to become actors somehow, they've both expressed an interest in acting. Even though I can't decide whether or not Dan is a good enough actor to be honest. I feel like he'd be a great stage actor, he projects a lot, but film or TV not so much. Maybe they'll stick with voice acting or maybe it won't happen at all. I'd kind of like it though, them being voice actors.

I really don't think this is their big farewell though. Why would they leave Youtube? What else would they do? Sure, they've got money but I don't think it's enough for them to leave Youtube. Phil would probably find something new to do pretty easily with his degree but Dan? I don't think they're famous enough outside of Youtube to take this step as of now. Maybe in the future it will be possible but I feel like right now they're still mostly famous for YouTube and their YouTube related projects. The BBC hired Dan for that documentary but I don't think they'd do that again if he wasn't a YouTube personality anymore. Like, Troye Sivan made that step and launched his singing career but Dan and Phil don't really have anything outside of YouTube to guarantee them a secure income right now so leaving YouTube at this point would probably end their careers. Might change in the future though.

I also don't think they're going to split up. Why would they? Their double act is what keeps the money coming in, they'd be idiots to just throw that away. That's also why I don't think they'll come out (as either together or not together) anytime soon. They're great entertainers in their own right but sadly to many people in the phandom the mystery and the uncertainty is their number one allure and I don't really wish the shit storm that would follow either announcement on them. It would end with a big portion of their fandom - either the shippers or the non-shippers - feeling betrayed and leaving and that would be fatal in both instances. I really think they've dug themselves into a hole with their ambiguity (I don't blame them though, it's just an unfortunate situation) and if they ever come out as anything it will probably only happen once their hype has died down for good.

They go and become talk show hosts in Japan.

I agree outside of youtube nobody really knows them. I do think they may host backstage at The Brits again. Also I think it would be great if they got hired to do a Saturday Morning show like Ant and Dec used to do (smtv/cduk) That really helped them get bigger projects.

THESE GUYS.

So, based on what they have done in the past I don't think they are has-beens unlike some other YTers who rode a wave or two of fame and have fizzled out.

I mean, lookit what they are doing right this moment: TATINOF is over and we are still totally vested in what they are doing. Gayming-mas may not seem like a big deal but lets be real: it's genius. They are more relaxed with themselves and each other, Dan is turning into Diva!Dan before our eyes, and Phil isn't "innocent" AmazingPhil. They crank out a video, Dan stays occupied and out of an existential crisis by doing all of the editing, and they can tell us what they think about the whole bro thing by way of social commentary.

Before anyone says anything about it, my opinion is they are not queer-baiting. I do think Phil kinda defrosted the closet door at the Boncas so we can get a tiny glimpse in, though. Oh, and they aren't separating, either.

To wrap this up (too late, I know): for all of the things Deppy is, I think they are savvy business people. They know what they are doing, they know how their fans are, and they know how we are amused.

That is good. :D

I agree with jesuisunèléve that are not like other youtubers, which does make it hard to guess what will happen in 2017 for them.
Whatever their future holds I think they will be doing it as a duo.

I agree with most of this. I've always thought Dan and Phil were different from other big YouTubers and they just keep proving they really are. That's why I'm so sure they'll stay on YouTube for a long time to come and won't leave the platform. They know what people want from them and how to time their content and projects to keep the fans invested. Like I said, I don't think they'll become irrelevant anytime soon if they keep doing what they do. But with Youtube it's always a threat. It's such an achievement for them to have stayed this relevant on YouTube for this long already, instead of having their 15 minutes of fame in 2013/2014 and dissapearing again like a lot of other hyped up creators. So, yeah, I think we don't have to worry about them leaving Youtube or splitting up or anything. In fact, their popularity as a duo might even skyrocket once more in 2017 depending on what they've got up their sleeves.

Lol I fit a 12-14 UK in most shops, tend to be more of a 14 or sometimes a 16 on bottoms, 10-12 up to but my hips are pretty big. Hopefully that paints a sort of picture of my shape; I'm pretty hourglass too.

From the store, the new "woolie" xmas jumper I got in a small and it's huge, I would not want it any bigger. I also have the galaxy sweater in a small but if you want Dan paws with the sleeves and perhaps a bit more over the bum, I'd recommend a medium. The boobie hairstyles sweater fits me better in a medium, the small is just too short in the sleeves. The japhan sweater, I settled on a small (despite buying a medium too and then returning it) because I personally think the base sweater they've used for it is different and it's just... odd. I actually think it's a man's sweater because it's tighter in strange places and doesn't seem designed for boobs. It's probably my least favourite of their sweaters.

I've always bought their tour tees in mediums, I got the galaxy shirt in a small because the fabric is not like a regular tee and the sizing for my size is perfect. I think that's about it.

Let me know if you want any specific comparisons; I shop in places like Primark, Top Shop, Next etc so can probably compare anything to shop sizing specifically (since shops suck and all do their own damn thing, it seems).

I don't think anyone has mentioned yet, but i'm watching the P4A livestream and Dan and Phil contributed another perk! They kept all the 'draw me like one of your french girls' pictures from Tatinof and offered them as $100 perks. They all sold out in a matter of seconds ofc

Update: Apparently they're offering more of the pictures as perks. Watch them disappear in a blink of an eye. Also, John Green is talking about Deppy so warmly and i'm happy.

aw, i love all the positive predictions for deppy. but let's be real, it's a little clouded by our love for them. as much as they had hits, they had quite a few misses. their individual channels are currently in the frozen state and tbh they don't have any real direction. i remember when i watched phil's collab with tyler oakley and tyler introduced phil as someone who does "various challenges" i was like "wut... is it really what he's channel's about? wait, what IS it about?". i don't necessarily think they time their content well. they can't decide if they want to keep up with trends like other youtubers or if they're too hipster for that, so they're often behind times in doing smth.
i first got into them in 2014-2015 through their gaming channel but, as a casual viewer, i was disappointed to see that their individual channels were DEAD so i was like "lol nope, not getting into that". i only came back to deppy in 2016 and got invested because of... you guessed it, the "mystery". so that leads us to the "they know what their fanbase wants" - they do know their fans want PHAN, whether it's indeed real or not. so you're all right, the ambiguty is keeping them afloat, even although it's kind of sad. though, if they are dating other people, phan creates a nice convenient buffer between their youtube selves and their personal lives.

either way, i also think they will not go down like a lot of other youtubers and knowing they have ties with bbc and crunchyroll has them on their radar, they will score something outside of youtube too.

From the IndieGoGo page
Dan as a French Girl by Phil
In Dan and Phil's "The Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire." Phil draws Dan like one of his French girls. They saved all of these drawings that were made during the shows and now you can own one of them! They are SIGNED by Dan and Phil, are extremely limited, and one of a kind!

Phil's video post production degree is horribly outdated by now though, software like Final Cut Pro has changed a lot and Phil has barely done any challenging editing jobs since he got his diploma. He even hired Jack Howard to edit the second Krave challenge video when in theory he should've been able to handle a video like that. Getting a degree is one thing, keeping it relevant is another.

Agree with everything else though. D&P are relevant because of YouTube and the opportunities that they get are related to their status on the platform and the loyalty of the phandom. They didn't get a job at BBCR1 because they had any passion or talent for radio, they got it because R1 desperately needed a younger audience and they figured D&P would bring theirs with them. The Brits didn't let them host and ask them back twice because they're such terrific hosts, but because of their popularity on YouTube and the phandom watching anything D&P are in. I don't think they have what it takes to really make it outside of YouTube tbh (at least not rn), they're popular but I don't think they have enough mainstream appeal. I think get their YouTube mojo back will be crucial for them this next year so I really hope there's no new big side project. Especially their main channels have suffered this year. Right now we're seeing how the frequent uploading on DAPG is having really positive effects on the phandom, I hope they see that frequent uploads are what they main channels need to pull those out of their slumps as will. Dan especially needs to drop the 'this video is so March 15th' thing go, because it isn't doing anyone any favors and I get his perfectionism and shit, but he can't afford doing stuff like that right now. They have years left on YouTube, but they're gonna have to work for it. After they take care of their YouTube channels I do hope they start doing stuff with the BBC again to get their names out there.

About The Brits, do y'all think they'll return for 2017? It'd be their 4th year doing it. During the 2016 one I felt like it would be their last for some reason, maybe because they no longer handled the red carpet, but I'm not sure. They'll be free as far as we know, so if they don't do it they either declined the offer or The Brits didn't ask them back.

Good answer John, don't anger the Deppy phandom...
I really love how John and Hank are such supporters of Dan and Phil as people and creators.
A recent tweet by Hank: and then a reply: Makes me happy

As for the future of deppy, I honestly don't think they're as business savvy as most here think (just my opinion) but I'm guessing they definitely have a few more voice acting deals in the pipeline. Phil, especially, has such an amazingly variable voice!
I predict that after 2016 finishes, we're going to see two-weekly videos from Dan and maybe weekly ones from Phil again (I'm optimistic as their gamingmas has been so well received).
Deffo another Japhan trip in the works. 90% sure it'll be for Phil's 30th. (And a new DITL? Pleeeease )
Not sure if they'll actually move, but house searching will definitely be more explicitly documented.
Maybe 2017 will truly be their "rest year". Brace yourselves, guys, for the new year.

I have to wonder about the future of their individual channels from here on out, to be honest. Releasing some things on Dan's channel then other's on Phil's had to be a pain in the neck...and the Boncas proved this?

No offense to Philly, but tech changes and you have to keep up. I'm in the US, his degree would be considered (for the most part) useless.

One observation I have witnessed as I tour around the interwebs: YTers don't have much (if any) cred outside of YT. In the US they simply aren't taken seriously, this could be different over in the UK. Crossovers have not been overly successful in all of the various genres.

I don't know what they would do at this point, to be honest. I don't think Dan is going to change with his procrastination/perfectionism madness, unless real life slaps him in the face and he realizes he needs to get over himself and he discoveres its time to ADULT because rent won't pay itself. That being said, if he wants to get off of the YT he's going to have to give up some creative control, and I doubt he can do that.

Whatever they end up doing, I really hope it's not the typical YT formula, but watch I will end up eating my words: they will team up with one of the big makeup brands and end up doing a palette.

As a person in that industry, I have to completely disagree. Trends change, tech doesn't.

Programs get more intuitive and easier to use. Several anecdotal cases: last time I picked up InDesign it was still called "Adobe Pagemaker" and nothing had changed between Pagemaker 7 of 2004 and 2015 InDesign that I used last spring. I've been a Photoshop user since version 7: the only changes are added options (such as the invation (tm) of CS2's "Selective colouring", CS3's ablity to do 3D, CS5's content aware fill and vibrance). Same with Sony Vegas, Premiere Pro and After Effects.

Phil edits a lot and it's not that hard to make a switch between programs, it's a matter of relearning key combinations, I assure you. He could easily get back into the editing room and be in the swing of things in a matter of days.

My guess is they'll continue YouTube as they've been doing, maybe try to keep regular/more frequent schedules more now the tour's done (Dan more so, Phil's channel and DAPG are anyway), though I don't think it necessarily harms them for Dan's channel to be a bit less active if he's not feeling it, since they're sharing everything. I can see more voice acting, likely something with the BBC, but I wouldn't expect anything so far outside of the type of presenting, performing thing they've been doing that lack of a relevant degree would matter.

They've got 7-10 years of experience in what they do, they know how to use equipment and software on top of presenting, voice acting etc, and they can sell almost anything to their huge fanbase and have over a thousand of us turn up somewhere at £50 a ticket. All Phil's said about his degree is that it's been helpful with his channel and as sentinel said, they'll be up to date with what's relevant. I'd be very surprised if they have any problems.

Moving house, maybe, it's a big step, especially to leave London, but they're likely to have enough saved from the tour for a deposit unless they're just not thinking about that at all, it is all speculation even with a little fuel from #DanNeedsStorage. Holiday to Japan for Phil's birthday sounds plausible.
