Also, I love this picture
He said in his live show that he was going to the wedding of some family members he barely knows. Dan won't be going with him, which isn't surprising because if they are people Phil barely knows, they probably know Dan even less.

Just want to say that I love how they have both been on the same page from Halloween Baking on. It's just refreshing and pleasant to watch them work together now. I really think this is the most in sync their performances in collab videos have been since the early years.

Sticker to block the laptop webcam. Genius.

Anyways, so I've been noticing that none of the new gaming videos have bleeps in them for anytime one of them Dan curses. Aren't there several videos from the past that always got bleeped out? I know not all of them, but I could have sworn a good portion was. Wasn't the Sims series always bleeped, or am I going crazy?
I wouldn't say no to just chalking it up to the idea that editing in the bleeps takes a long time and isn't worth it when you're trying to crank out a bunch of videos at once, but I also wouldn't mind getting rid of all bleeping all together. 8-)

Dan's such a little shit I love him

Is it bad that I haven't seen the Bee movie yet? :? I wasn't interested at the time but dammit the memes surrounding this movie are intriguing me

I'm so tempted to search what he searched out of pure curiosity but I feel like I would fall straight for his trap :sideeye: No Dan! I will not give into my nosiness because of your kinks :tsk:

Oh my god I didn't even notice it's covering the camera  Now I'm doubly curious

The thing is most of the films they own aren't catering to the lgbt community, they're mainstream films that happen to have lgbtq characters. I really don't think them owning a handful of films featuring lgbt characters says a lot about their sexuality. Brokeback Mountain and Kill Your Darlings are so popular even my lowkey homophobic mum has seen them, The Rules of Attraction is a bit of a classic and so on. Compared to their massive collection of action and horror films a few films featuring lgbt characters don't really say much and I actually think it's a bit over the top to assume they're lgbt based on a few dvds on their shelf. I'm not saying they're straight and I actually don't really care but a few films that most people into artsy films have seen don't mean anything.
Catallena wrote:Another thing is... one project might have flopped. The Sunday Dan & Phil Show wasn't actually theirs, it was the request show altered to fit D&P. But Internet Takeover was their concept allowing them to work on TABINOF/TATINOF and I don't have numbers but was it ever really a success? Did anyone care for it when D&P weren't on? Big names like Tyler, Felix and Zoe might have drawn in an audience but while their audience is far larger than D&P's, it's nowhere near as loyal either. Stuff from earlier episodes like the Intenserviews that tied the concept back to Deppy was dropped quite quickly maybe to allow the concept to stand on it's own and J&D became regular hosts possibly to give listeners more familiarity. Internet Takeover not being quite the success they had hoped it would be could've potentially soured the relationship between D&P and BBC. /speculation

I also wasn't talking about current mainstream popularity, I was talking about potential mainstream appeal and I just don't see it. Their chemistry together is amazing, but also intended for a very niche audience imo. Remember them being guests on Friday Download and it being terrible for everyone involved? D&P's thing doesn't seem to made for the mainstream audience that major networks like the BBC want to pull in, be it children or adults. The general public uses the internet to chat with relatives and old classmates they never wanted to see again on Facebook, YouTube is just a thing for cat videos as far as they know and not for watching guys draw cat whiskers on their faces. I think that in order for D&P to cross over into mainstream media, I think they'll have to leave behind the appeal that makes them work and what we as fans see in them. Old media and the internet, I'm not sure they'll ever be united.
I couldn't agree more. I don't think their chemistry is enough to draw in a mainstream audience and their sense of humour / content is very clearly aimed at a younger internet savvy audience. Dan and Phil originated on the internet and they don't really work off of it. I think there's something in the fact the BRITs only ever hire them to appear on their internet content and live stream, you don't see them once when you watch the BRITs on TV like most people do. That's telling, I think. Another thing I'm thinking of is Dan interviewing the Hunger Games cast for his channel. It was so awkward and weird to watch and I felt like the three actors never really got what he was getting at, his jokes or why he was even there. Old media and the internet don't really mix, I agree. I can't really imagine watching Dan and Phil presenting something on mainstream TV, not because I think they couldn't do it, but because everything about them is so influenced by Youtube and the internet in general they would feel right out of place on a TV screen.

Sad to say this, but I also think their thing with the BBC is over. I think what BisexualShoeMarriage said might've been true about a year ago, the BBC might have tried to build them up to be a new presenter duo but something didn't work out. The BBC might get them back someday but I kind of doubt it. I think that's over. :(

I mean to us Dan and Phil seem super famous because everyone we talk to on here and on the internet in general knows them, but in real life if I asked my friends about them, they wouldn't have a single clue. 6 million subscribers does look like a lot but it's not even as much as the population of London and spread out over the world it's not that many people actually. Even if you consider all the people who watch them but aren't subscribed to them, Dan and Phil's fanbase is very tiny compared to that of mainstream celebrities. They're internet famous alright but outside of the internet their names mean nothing to most people. So I don't really think we'll ever see the guys make the jump from Youtube personalities into mainstream media even though I'd love it if they managed it. Someone on here said they might find jobs in media behind the camera later and I agree with that a lot.

i think most of us were surprised that they own Were the World Mine. it's an objectively bad movie, it's very low budget with atrocious acting and the plot is basically "everyone is gay" au fanfiction. it really stands out among all the mainstream, critically acclaimed movies in their collection.

i do agree however that this has nothing to do with their sexuality. someone could have just troll-gifted it to them (i'd disown that friend)

First of all WTF Dan.
edit: just saying, but everyone I know has a sticker covering their laptop cam (and you should too). it's nothing too paranoid really.

Second of all, I find it hilarious that Phil has worn the exact same suit/shirt/tie combo to his sims' wedding that he is wearing now to a real one.

Really? Wow, thanks! Because like, I've not seen ANY of those lgbt movies, not even Brokeback Mountain. It just never came up. So I understand the need for LGBT media but since I never strove to find it, I don't know what's just "gay" and what is made by lgbt, for lgbt. I do know Blue Is the Warmest Color is considered very "made by a straight person", and I felt like Black Swan is kind of the same deal, but I also dislike Only Me & You which is regarded well (from what I've seen), so maybe my critic measurement is broken.

I do think that lgbt relationships will blossoms best in online tv shows like Sense 8 and such, and hopefully in time it will be mainstream enough to enter commercial television.

Judging from all of y'alls reaction to Were the World Mine though, I should tread carefully

This is just my impression, but I always assumed that if the video is edited by Phil, he'll bleep out the curse words; Dan just leaves them in. I have zero scientific proof of this. It's just what I always thought

Dan leaves them in and they aren't edited out unless the video is on Phil's channel (my understanding). Which is fine with me, some of these games just wouldn't be the same unless Dan was cursing a blue-streak.

Okay. I don't understand how someone would gift their "straight" friend a joke present of an obscure LGBT film that they they cherish and place among their collection of other cherished DVD's, on full display. But okay.

Imo, Phil has probably already given up on censoring swears. I think if he edited a video for the gaming channel rn he would most likely leave them in, providing it wasn't a brand deal of course (i.e. best fiends). Maybe it's just hopeful thinking but he does seem to give less fucks these days.

i mean sure it could happen, there's lots of ways to interpret almost anything we've talked about on idb from #nohomo to #fullhomo, but imo interpreting *everything* as just bro bffs requires mental hoop-jumping the likes i have not bothered to do in years...

in other news phil is beautiful and dan is a complete troll and i love them both

I believe Dan said once that he bleeps it only if he feels like it was unnecessary or too much. There's an example of that in one of the Sims(?) videos where he bleeps a couple times, and then on another one specifically says "not going to bleep that one" because apparently he felt like it was deserved for the situation. So there's some kind of mental line he has/had for when he felt like censoring it or not. Which may have gone by the wayside now if Phil is lightening up on it too.
That's my socializing quota for the month up.
