Hey, good to see you back. Cripes, don't worry about being behind on videos and stuff, good for you taking time out to concentrate on exams, you don't really want it the other way around. I hope they went well.bluebox-away wrote:Hi everybody, I'm back from my monthlong disappearance into "oh my god these exams actually count and affect my future ahhhhh''. tldr. not dead, just busy with real life stuff, and I'm kinda back for the time being until uni gets intense again hope eveyone's well and anyone who went to a Women's March had a great day, my heart is so warmed by the number of people standing up for such an important cause

I'm so happy that both of them acknowledged the marches. Especially that Phil did it so early on, and with an LGBT slant and still in a way that was inherently Phil. I hope he continues to be more and more comfortable in this regard.
Didn't like the Happy Wheels video, for the same reasons other people have said. Between general distaste for them playing up Felix like him being problematic just something you have to laugh over, and queasiness over the casual manged-bodies-and-exaggerated-gore feel to the game, it is the first DAPG video in a while that I have no desire to ever watch again. (I do see the argument about how it might not have been them giving Felix a pass, but I still can't hear Dan's voice as anything but fondly exasperated when he calls Felix 'problematic dad.') I can catch the isolated cute moments in gif form on tumblr if I need to.
I keep thinking about Phil saying he can't sleep because his mind is so creatively wired right now. I am so, so interested to see what he does. The creative projects he made with little financial backing were so fun, like the interactive adventure stories. For some reason it just really occurred to me that this is probably the first time since 2012 that either of them have had just abundant time for whatever they want. 2013-2014 was a weekly radio show, late 2014-2016 would have been dominated by book/tour/movie. No wonder he's excited. I can't wait to see what Phil - four years older, with a lot more experience, and ability to put more production value in - can do.

these are my thoughts too! for the first time in years they really don't have an excuse to procrastinate with making videos (unless they announce that they're busy moving... lulz) and i'm excited about what they're going to put out. not expecting much from dan, but as phil explicitly expressed that he's bursting with ideas i'm hoping that means more videos and maybe something new and cool and not just general trends and challenges (he kind of made a dig at those in the video, didn't he? joking that he should have filmed himself microwaving the fork as it would have had good views and also "could have put a 1000 degree glowing knife into a microwave" lol).alittledizzy wrote: I keep thinking about Phil saying he can't sleep because his mind is so creatively wired right now. Omg, same! I'm really curious to see what his ideas are. Since he explicitly stated they are creative, I think they go more in the direction of either videos like "Tour Of My Brain" or maybe even something like his old stuff in a better quality (e.g. my favourite "Dreams of the Future")? Not sure about the latter, but a girl can dreampapierklemmen wrote:

Maybe he hit the back of his leg or hit his shins on something other than the steps? I don't know what. Phil's forever hurting his butt (apparently bruised both that and his side falling offstage, pierced it on Dan's earring, an insect bit it), there's been a theme for a while.

As for Deppy doing Happy Wheels, it was massively requested in the comments of DAPG videos--shouldn't that count for something?

Anyone who became a fan of Phil, or youtube in general, in the past 4-5 years is probably not drawn to those kinds of videos just because they're so different than the polished and mass-consumable videos made now.LeftHandedism wrote:I still don't understand why the phandom evidently doesn't bother with Phil's old videos--even though they go and watch PINOF all the time.
I don't actually expect whatever Phil does next to be very reminiscent of what he did as a university student. He's matured as a person and I don't think he looks back as fondly on those old videos as enamoured fans do. If anything, he's nostalgic - but that doesn't imply a desire to emulate what he used to do.
Personally I'm very fond of Phil's old stuff too, but I'm excited to see what sort of creativity Phil of today has.

i don't think i would even want him to go back to his old style, because a) he himself expressed that he is not about that life now; b) there are so many other ways he can go creative. go phil.

Absolutely! I didn't mean to imply that I wanted him to do videos that look like those of ten years ago. Certainly I would expect more polished production values.alittledizzy wrote: Personally I'm very fond of Phil's old stuff too, but I'm excited to see what sort of creativity Phil of today has.
I'm interested to see how much weirdness (old-style weirdness, not angel-bean weirdness) comes back, and how much sexy. And definitely it would need to be 30-year-old sexy, not 20-year-old sexy!
Maybe his new phase will be something entirely different, and that would be cool too.

Knowing their demographic I'm not sure bringing up sexiness is a good moveLeftHandedism wrote:I'm interested to see how much weirdness (old-style weirdness, not angel-bean weirdness) comes back, and how much sexy. And definitely it would need to be 30-year-old sexy, not 20-year-old sexy!

When he mentioned he's been creative lately, I thought it doesn't necessarily have to do with his channel. For some reason I expect a big project from him, not just a couple of interesting stand alone videos.

Despite the demographic the phandom finds Phil sexy af and he doesn't need to try anyway. It helps when he sings in his baritone range, but just being is enough. Greatly looking forward to seeing what he's going to come up with. It could be a while, though, since he's just in the idea stage now.
He's been explicitly teasing about them so i'm expecting he already has tons of ideas, just not a way to properly funnel them into a format!! Im thirsty for a Phil movie or something he writes and directs. I chanced upon an old interview of his where he talks about how his biggest dream would be to direct a moviealittledizzy wrote: I keep thinking about Phil saying he can't sleep because his mind is so creatively wired right now. 1:27: "I'd really like to direct and write my own Phil where money was no object so I'd be the most amazing film you've even seen"
other favorites parts:
2:01 Favorite thing to eat in morning? "I like toast" Oh, so i see his pancake obsession manifested later in his development
2:42 "videos have become a routine, if I dont make a video in a week I'm like video video" BETCHHHHHH what happened?? (jk I still love you but little Phil was a bit more comfortable with a schedule) Dan stop rubbing on him

3:37 "with tv I was on quiz show and in movie I was play a part so I wasn't being myself.. I prefer to be myself..if I'm appearing anywhere"
3:52 "I dont think I'm a good actor" HMMMM...*sips tea*
He seemed very casual and chill in this interview but also had those pauses when he tried to inflect and make himself sound different/more interesting which I think was more common back in the day. It's still one of my faves because he is so small and cuddly in it
Other oldschool faves that I recommend (because they're so weird/creative but also give insight on his relationship with friends and how much they were willing to do to entertain his hobby) are:

I saw these gifs on Tumblr and Dan and Phil's faces are so perfect that I just had to share.

(gif source / link to post: wallflowerchronicles)
The first two gifs seriously give me life. What a great response (from both of them) to a bs heteronormative claim like "girls like hot boys and hot boys like pretty girls"
Just look at the disdain on Phil's face. Glorious. I think this counts as Phil priss face.

And then Dan is just like "r u kidding me wtf"

kuensukki Very interesting what you said about him using his weirdness as a defense mechanism. The thought never crossed my mind, but it makes total sense! I think you might be spot on with that.
Loved the new gaming video. How have I never even heard of this game? Kinda hilarious, kinda terrifying. It left me very But why on Earth would they mention the pewdiepie situation

Love that so many of you went to the marches yesterday! I didn't get to go to the St. Louis one, but I watched a lot of livestreams of them at work. Truly warmed me, heart and soul. Glad d&p showed some support for the marches as well. No idea where this opinion expressing Phil came from, but I hope he stays a while!
Annnnndddddd now I fall down a hole of watching old Phil videos, which will lead to old Dan videos, which will lead to searching for vlogs that include them, and generally being completely unproductive today so thanks y'all

Old Phil videos always had a dark subtle David Lynch-y (one of my favorite directors) vibe to them and I absolutely LOVED IT. I hope he brings a little of that back in future projects. I'd love to see a Phil movie because of this. I think it'd have the potential to be fantastic. I need Director!Phil in my life right now.
I still support the theory that the two of them get high and draft their tweets in January to plan out the rest of the year. This is such a quintessential Phil tweet, it's timeless, ageless. Bland enough to be friendly and relatable but without giving away any personal information or location, he could be anywhere right now. What country could he be in? Could this even be Phil tweeting or has he been abducted and new impersonated? Who knows.flarequake wrote:Phil is fluffy in a towel apparently
